SE4 CD discussion

As Richard requested, a new thread for discussion (rather than submission) on the SE4 CD.

Q) How much time do we have?

I'm wondering whether I'll have time to make any tweaks to my mod, or the patched AIs, or reconstruct my AI Patcher program, etc.

Submit it, and Shrapnel will either include everything, trim down the submissions to 650MB - Size(SE4), or add another CD http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif.

Just to head things off at the pass, I'm sure only original works will be acceptable. Malfador/Shrapnal probably isn't game to get their heads handed to them by overzealous lawyers from Lucas Films, Paramont, and others.

Re: SE4 CD discussion

Zircher, how about just changing the names etc in these good mods. This way they could be incorporated and we would have new race names etc?? This would also eliminate lawyers etc.

just some ideas mac

Re: SE4 CD discussion

Agreed Zircher. Given the climate and the history of LA, and PP's, any inclusion of any images, or other, into this new CD would most definately result in a law suite.

Its a pitty, but one has to protect ones property, and MM and Shrapnel are to smart to get caught up in some stupid copy right law suite.

One thing that they can do is include links to site that have these sets. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: SE4 CD discussion

Atrocities, why wouldn't the mods be considered original as they were desgined by the modders. only names and the shipsets are used for some of the races, why couldn't we just change the names of the races, and have a contest for the modders to design new original shipsets to go with them for the cd??

just some ideas mac

Re: SE4 CD discussion

Not the mods. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif The ship sets that use images from known sources like Lucas Arts, Lucas Films, Paramount, Universal, etc.

Those ones would more than likely draw lawyers.

However, if shrapnel clearly states that all images are the works of their respective authors, and claim no profit from them, then perhaps they might be able to include them, but I doubt it.

Richard: When do we have to have all this ready?

Re: SE4 CD discussion

the pcmod and bundled scenarios will not be done for at least two months. i would request that people provide their scenarios for the CD, the P&N scenarios, and the voyager scenario if possible.

if the add on pack is given away as a free download and is fan art, there should not be any copyright issues

The sooner the better, but the new burn will not be (this specific burn) until November.

However don't wait http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif.

And yes we will include info from the modders as far as links, in fact I will be getting with each author about some other stuff as well.

Good. That gives me time to finish this backlog of schoolwork, and clean up some of my stuff.
I also hope to put out a humans-only P&N for PBW, with a lot of stuff that AIs just can't handle.

I will push to get the vikings ready for inclusion. I'll aim for the end of October.
If we had an idea of which mods were going to be included, race creators could make sure that they had AI files and images to ensure compatibility with all of them.

I'm assuming that things like the mod launcher and race viewer will be included.

How about the latest Version the SE4 code? Matryx even wrote a code generator for it, although it might want updating.

Go to my meagre SEIV pages to generate your own code.

Re: SE4 CD discussion

Again I have posted a thread to just post your final Version to. If you update them before we burn the CD's just post edit your post on the thread. Also include contact info so I can contact you.

Finally I need you to do me a favor and go out into the community and find the guys who have older useful stuff and have them come back in and post it. I remember some actual programs that allowed you to modify mods in a GUI and a Mod Manager and those I would especially like to add.

I am really trying to rally the community to get some really nice stuff added to this CD so I would appreciate any help I can get.

And again if you want your SE fan site highlited drop me a line and we can add you to the banner exchange program.

Thanks!

Hi Guys:

Just had to put my two cents in. Maybe Richard has already covered this, but don't forget to include a text file with your post giving us your credit info. This should include Name, elements, and Website address if you have one that you want us to include.

We are thinking of updating the manual and including the credits info there also.

About the manual thing (semi-tangent here):

I've been thinking of making a revised "edition" of the manual for techmod detailing what I changed and perhaps improving some areas (err, assuming I can do a better job, which remains to be seen http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif)

Any problem with me doing that, and including the revised Version with my mod?

Re: SE4 CD discussion

Just in case anyone reading this thread is still unclear, Richard clarified in a recent e-mail that they do not want any copyrighted material included on any mods placed on the SE4 CD. To that end, we (the TDM-Modpack crew) are currently planning to include a Version for the CD (with certain components removed or modified of course). Most of us already have upgraded files ready for compilation/testing but are holding off until the 1.42 patch comes out so that we can ensure compatibility.

End of november hmm....
well I'll refrain from uploading my Mod Selection Utility into that thread until I can gauge if I have time to improve it http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif
