Jaguar Warriors and Afflictions
I Know that Jaguar warriors can amd will give differet afflictions.
I have never given it much thought other than stay away from them with my Prophet ect unless I needed to fight them. However, I just did an early turn and was thinking about it.... and realized I had no idea about how it worked. My question is: If there are 15 Jaguar Warrior Indies and I attcj that province with My Pretender, Heavy Inf and Archers, and leave my pretender in the back firing off Shards at them so it doesn't come in contact with the Warriors themselves, Can my Pretender get an affliction? Or is it that the fact that it is in the battle period give him that chance to get them. I tried to read up on it but can't find an answer and have never played or for that matter fought that Nation. Thanks for your help as it could make a LOT of difference in the early game I would suspect. |
Re: Jaguar Warriors and Afflictions
Any damage dealt to a unit from any source stands a chance of giving an afliction - it's not just Jaguar Warriors who can do it.
Jaguar Warriors with a Death bless would deal more than otherwise, though. If you're talking about indies, you might mean Jaguar Tribe Warriors. They aren't the same thing, and don't do anything special at all with afflictions. Some quick rules of thumb: 1: If a unit takes damage, it might get an affliction. 2: Base affliction chance = (damage/unit HP)X100 in % 3: Units with regeneration are much less likely to get afflictions. 4: Units with recuperation can recover from afflictions. 5: If you don't take damage, you won't get afflictions (barring special magical spells and effects) |
Re: Jaguar Warriors and Afflictions
1. There are no jaguar warrior indies on normal maps. Only jaguar tribe warriors.
2. Jaguar Warriors do not inherently give afflictions. They may have an increased chance to give afflictions if they have been blessed by a priest whose pretender has high death magic. 3. Afflictions (generally speaking) come from being hurt in battle. Each time you are hurt you have a certain chance of getting certain afflictions. So if your pretender doesn't come into contact with the Jaguar Tribe Warriors there's roughly no chance he'll get an affliction. |
Re: Jaguar Warriors and Afflictions
GrudgeBringer, I have no idea what you are talking about. Jaguar Warriors? Giving afflictions? You mean with a death bless, or what? Sorry, this is incomprehensible.

Re: Jaguar Warriors and Afflictions
if you conquered a territory and got an affliction not obviously caused by being in combat
it is likely that the territory has an inkpot site - (or one of the others) that causes disease. Alternatively, its winter, you're old, and you just got an old age affliction. But battle is the most likely reason- there are a few other sites that will do it. Also a few remotely cast spells, if the caster has death can do it as well. But you'd see those. Like seeking arrow if you have a death bless etc. |
Re: Jaguar Warriors and Afflictions
Do you mean Lizard Warriors and Curses? If so, yes you can expect your pretender to be cursed, as it targets high hp units first and has range=100.

Re: Jaguar Warriors and Afflictions
Yep, i meant those OTHER Jaguar Warriors....Lizard Warriors:doh:.
Thanks for everyone that tried to help me...They where side by side in 2 provinces. However, I DID learn that Jaguar Tribe and Jaguar Warriors are different AND cleveland helped my stunted brain out with the right answer....:D Agian thanks guys for answering such a stupid question.. |
Re: Jaguar Warriors and Afflictions
Oh. The curse is from the shaman, not the warriors.
Man what an awful thread :] |

Re: Jaguar Warriors and Afflictions
In one game I had a diseased Jag warrior, and detached him from the army into the province. 20 or so turns after I was surprised seeing the jag still there, but healed up without disease.
Guess it was secondshape in action. |
Re: Jaguar Warriors and Afflictions
Huh, weird. Were there any battles there in the interim? If not, I wonder whether he turned into his secondshape upon hitting 0 HP in man-form, and then immediately switched back or something. Weird, anyway.

Re: Jaguar Warriors and Afflictions
Ah yes - units with a secondshape that activates on death (and who revert to the original form after combat) react oddly to disease. The same sort of thing happens with Black Sorcerers, I think. When their normal form dies of disease the secondshape activates, but then they promptly revert to the original shape and have a chance to heal afflictions.
