Game Guide

When did the GG change size? It displays without scrolling on my 1024x768 IE7. Thanks. It still states

"This Guide is designed to be Viewed on 1152x864 wide or wider monitor display settings."

I decided it was time to review the GG again with 4.5 and was surprised. Nicely.

The HTML has not changed.

I believe IE7 handles image sizes better than IE6.

But since I use Firefox rather than the Internet Exploder, I would not really know.

I spoke too soon. After the tutorial pages, it begins the larger size.

However, with the tabs introduced in IE7, you can change the view size as a % with 100% default. Choosing 75% allows me to view without scrolling although the print is smallish for my old eyes. This does not effect any other tabs.

You can also use a very good web browser like Opera.

I just installed IE8; it's much faster than IE7. Many tests of the new release (not the beta version) are showing IE8 as faster than Firefox! I love it when capitalism causes companies to compete...and we benefit.

Anyway, the GG looks great in IE8, and if anyone is currently using IE7 I recommend the IE8 upgrade.

Cross had a quick look round the site but could not find any answers.
2 things
Does it overwrite IE7 if not assume you just uninstall IE7 once happy with 8. Secondly if it doesn't can you transfer things like favorites over.

Yes, it overwrites/updates IE7. I just installed it 'ontop' of IE7 on four of my computers without any problems. Just download and execute, and it will guide you through the install.

After install, there is still an IE7 (hidden) folder in Windows, and an IE7 Updates folder.

All your Favourites will be intact.

I always create a 'Restore Point' before installing something like this. Doesn't look like I'll have to use it... :)

Re: Game Guide

Cheers I assume the IE7 (hidden) folder in Windows, and an IE7 Updates folder are okay to delete after. i have no trouble finding hidden stuff & yes restore always makes sense before an install.

I second cross IE8 is a LOT faster & has several new features

junk2drive March 28th, 2009 09:56 AM

Re: Game Guide

Mixed bag. I turned off all the features. Some webpages scroll faster, this one is slower. Could be the website is slower from the downloads or bots.

Most annoying, the favourites dropdown, mouse pointer floats about before it can be settled on a shortcut.

Re: Game Guide

I guess the GG has not been updated for 4.5

No number 5 in the hotkeys, gliders are destroyed on landing, noticed so far.

DRG March 28th, 2009 11:11 AM

Re: Game Guide

Yes the GG was updated for V4.5..... could we perhaps have forgotten to makes some small adjustement due to all the other work we did on the game ???..... perhaps.

Perhaps it would be more helpful to detail the page and item so that these little things can be eventually corrected ????

If you look REALLY close you WILL find a number of things added

Main map window section has the hotkeys list. Cross will probably have an updated one soon.

Artillery Bombardment section discusses gliders and landing under Air transports and gliders subsection.

Hey at least I RTFM, lol, and answer q's for those who don't.

I assumed wrong that the GG had been updated. I can read the list of changes and figure it out.

This guy here:

http://www.bold-fortune.com/forums/i...opic=1103&st=0

says it is ok to delete the IE7 folders. After installing IE8 I no longer have the option to uninstall IE7 through Add/Remove programs, and that's the only reason - apparently - that you may want to keep those folders. The two folders add up to over 250MB!

I think I will delete mine, and leave them in the Recyle Bin, so I can restore them, until I'm conviced it won't be a problem.

IE8 is running great on my systems. No complaints at all...

Don,
You and Andy are only a 2 man team. So what if you forgot something that the detailed "hardcore" player found. I'm sure it will be remedied in the next patch. Regardless your work is APPRECIATED and I look forward to each and every patch. Maybe junk2drive should join your team and help put out the patches since he's so detailed oriented. Just my 2 cents; NOT meaning to offend anyone.:angel
Junk2drive,
I know you meant well and just trying to help improve the game to perfection....:D

Re IE8

Sorry realise a bit off topic but others will install, deleted files without problems so far.
Considering Microsoft are supposed to be big players they are awful when it comes to installs & such often leaving loads of junk & broken links, very slipshod. My computer is set to clear out every 2 weeks & last time we had a bought of updates I looked, if left for a year would have had nearly 10,000 items that were just junk. Ever wondered why your computer seems slower than it was?

A good registry look/find/fix program is a MUST when using windows. Otherwise your system will crash eventually, just a matter of time.

Microsoft ARE the big players. Who else could afford to pay those big fines that the EU whacked them with?
Big players can afford to be sloppy when there's little or no alternatives to thier products.

Can you recommend a good registry cleaner/fixer?

I used CCleaner recently, and it cleared out a lot of junk with no problems.

As for Microsoft, they have a worse reputation than they deserve.
The European fines largely took advantage of anti-americanism IMHO. Ironically, the Europeans were playing the 'American' game of frivolous lawsuits, on the international level, as a way to get a jury to award money.

One of the real "Joys" of PC's is just about every system is different. The two questions I'd ask is what processor is running and what operating system is it using.
