Scenario creation Poll
If there was clear documentation on creating Scenarios Campaigns how interested would you be in having a go at it.
Please be honest & bear in mind even if you know what you are doing this will take a big chunk of your time as it will still probably be slightly hit & miss. You have to build maps buy deploy set waypoints & test test test. You are not going to get a result in an afternoon requires some commitment on your behalf. |
Re: Scenario creation Poll
I used to like to think I was a decent mapmaker till I saw Marek's work. Now, I feel so inferior.
What is the intent of the poll? Are you looking to assemble some designers for a project? I know there are very few who would ever be willing to jump into the design process out there which is why I would like to see another group effort on a project like the ANZAC Campaign. Just assemble some map makers, designers and playtesters and have at it where everyone works on the scenarios based on their design strengths. |
Re: Scenario creation Poll
As for myself I'm still neck deep (and probably over my head) in my own "work" (that by now most must think is more myth then fact) on the USMC OOB.

To early for me to get involved in a project I would be more of a hinderance than help. Did think it was worth a feeler to see if people would be intreasted in at least helping with testing maps etc to get a general feel for intrest which seems to be low. Does not really surprise me. I am learning stuff from my other post & if intrest was shown would at least do a blow by blow on the best way to start. As in think small Buy both sides Blah blah But takes time to put out in clear format rather than for own use so unless intrest was shown won't bother. Said in the other post but yes the ANZAC project was something else me I am just playing by comparison. |
Re: Scenario creation Poll
Hi all, came here from a link in SPWW2 thread. I love to do maps and create scenarios and campaigns. I don't have that much background on SPMBT and SPWW2, but I have just ordered SPWW2 and have been playing and designing maps on SPWaW ( now on ver 8.04) for many years. Maybe someone here could explain the compatability of all of these games. I understand that they are basically the same, using files (.shp) between them.
Sorry if this isn't the proper place for this question. |

Re: Scenario creation Poll
Well, I guess I'll just have to start from scratch ;) or see if there's a way to import files into the game. Do Fred Chlanda's (SPWaW) editors work on SPWW2 maps? AND are the MBT maps compatabile with the WW2 maps?
Sorry for all the questions, but I'll be waiting a few days for the game to arrive. I just thought I'd try to get a 'head start' on things until it gets here. :D |
Re: Scenario creation Poll
While I am interested in creating maps, scenarios and even campaigns, I don't feel like I have the time to do it all, let alone learn all the tricks of the trade. I'm also fairly new to a lot of the game and have only started reacently (last week) to branch out of AI games and generated battles into more user stuff and so feel like I have a ways to go.

The answer to all is yes Fred Chlandas does work I believe there is a version out there. MBT & WW2 fundamently the same game maps are interchangable Worth having a long play with the map generator can do some quite effective stuff & welcome to 160x 200 maps with multi elevations 13 I think. No walls before you ask worth a quick look at the guide explaining sticking/bog chance of terrain. (help tab on splash screen) Namely rough mud swamp soft sand streams fords buildings snow drift, driving through slowly is the order of the day & sticking is class dependant. 2 wheel trucks to track worst > best There are also posts on gameplay diffrences between the WAW & camo games plus several good map threads try a search |
Re: Scenario creation Poll
Thanks Imp, you've been very helpful.

Re: Scenario creation Poll
No probs always nice to welcome someone new into the fold & you never know might get to play one of your creations some day:cool:

Re: Scenario creation Poll
I'm not new to the game as I have the original SPWaW CD from SSI. The game has come a long way (ver 8.04 Matrix Games) and I hope the differences between them are small so I can start creating some good maps for people to use. :D

Re: Scenario creation Poll
Should be fine with map editor, playing the game main diffrences in my opinion arty C&C ( game abstracts if out of contact slowly adds suppresion so they become less effective) & op fire. Takes some getting used to if you are used to everybody instantly seeing a known unit & firing back.

SSI never released SPWAW, only SP1,SP2,SP3 SPWAW is matrix games baby. Also keep in mind ,matrix totally dropped the ball on Steel Panthers:Modern Warfare. |
Re: Scenario creation Poll
Skirmisher, you are absolutely correct. :o SP1 is the CD I have and I’ve just associated it with SPWaW from Matrix Games, just as it was picked up by Camo Workshop, SPWW2 has continued to improve the game. The saga lives on!!!
Yes they did drop the ball on Modern Warfare. I look forward to getting my CD anyday now and can't wait to take it for a test drive. :fire: Imp, I do use the realistic setting for sightings and have parked a tank or two on top of snipers and one man crews without seeing them... I don't use C&C for small turn based scenarios as the turn limit is generally short and gives you no time to rally your units. I prefer C&C in longer turn based games, but I didn't like the way it was structured in SP so I really never used it. |
Re: Scenario creation Poll
Never played the original SPs so cant comment what I was referring to was the main diffrence between camo games & SPWAW which I used to play.

These great CAMO games are based on SP2, while SPWAW is based on SP3. There are many subtle differences. But to me the biggest is the terrain. We have what 11 levels of hill height in WinSP Games, while SPWAW has a meager 3 levels of hill terrian. Hard to make realistic maps with so little elevation options. |
Re: Scenario creation Poll
I noticed that immediatly AND it was one of the major reasons for purchasing the game. I saw the map menu and the levels offered, and can't wait to start mapping and playing. The only way to do that in the SPWaW is to use the map editors. It's just too complicated for something that should be easy!
If you could tell me where I can download some 'well done' maps, I'd like to see what is available on the map editor. |

Re: Scenario creation Poll
Very Nice. I was wondering if there are map icons ( overlays ) as in SPWaW maps. You lay down a main road and cover it with an icon of a city street for those city maps. the map has the main road but it looks like a city cobblestone street. Nice looking feature when used properly. (had a map where they layed the icon over a stone building. AV's didn't think it was soooo funny!!! )

Re: Scenario creation Poll
Not quite sure what you mean you will see in a few days when it turns up. If mean pavement then yes 3 types paved cobble & brick & they effect movement making it fast. Cannot palce on elevations though & for some reason I have noticed it gets a bit confussed sometimes & wont let you place large buildings. Rail also seems to cause problems at times lay it after buildings in a city

This is the overlay of the city streets. Notice the main roads on the edges. There is also main roads under the overlays.

Re: Scenario creation Poll
Remember it now you can achieve much the same by laying pavement to get looking nice have to think a bit as border extends into next hex.
As said pavement is not just cosmetic has same movement property as a road |
