Spellchecker - Game on!

Age: MA
Players:7
Map:Bering (wraparound 93 land + 21 water), downloadable here: http://forum.shrapnelgames.com//showthread.php?t=39550
Mods: CBM 1.41, CPCS 0.6
Experience: Any
Settings: Renaming on, HoF: 15, otherwise normal.
Victory: Hold 4 Capitals or control >70 provinces for 3 consecutive turns
Other Rules: Ashdod is not allowed since its presence in the game is enough to warp the metagame, be it overpowered or not. Diplomacy is normal - breaking NAPs is frowned upon but not banned; trades are to be honoured.
Hosting: Flexible, since the existence of new spells might require some extra brainwork from the players. Small extensions (<12h) are granted on simple request.

Turns -- Hosting Scheducle
0-10 -- 24h quickhost
11-30 -- 36h quickhost
30-50 -- 48h quickhost
50+ -- 60h quickhost

This game will be using my CPCS mod, which adds new cross-path combat spells to diversify early and mid-game combat. It also adds some UW only combat spells (those of you who have fought UW wars probably understand why). CPCS has been in SP testing for 2 months now and I'm pretty sure that it is somewhat balanced. But this will be the first game to feature this mod in a MP game.

The spells will affect the game and change the balance. But the intention of this mod is to make that change as positive as possible. See the FAQ in the mod thread. Consider this game as a chance to play your favourite differently. Perhaps some new spells allows you to take a different route on your mid-game expansion, or give you new weapons to counter some of your foes stragedies.

The Urraparrand map has a lot of water but this is intentional to encourage some UW mayhem and thus usage for the new UW spells. However, there will be minimum of 2 water nations for balance reasons. Nations are given on the "first come, first served" basis. Because it could be argued that I have advantage because of the mod (I made it, so I'm quite aware how it works and stuff), I'll choose my nation last.

The CPCS mod can be downloaded here:
http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=42165
And the full on-line spell-list is here:
http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=42113

This looks interesting. In as Ryleh.

I'll give Pangaea a go

Re: Spellchecker - CPCS MA game (recruiting 4/10)

I might would suggest that since one of the main purposes of this game is for testing your new spells that perhaps you should set the Magic sites higher to increase the available magic in the game.

I'm not too big of a fan of lowering the ease of research but thats an option too.

But Default settings would still work.

I'm not too hots on high magic site settings.

More sites = more gems = more micro

Besides, a high magic site setting will pretty much make sure that someone finds one of the "I Win" sites (Ultimate Gateway, Steel Oven, etc...)

I'd like to mess around with some of the new underwater spells, so I'll sign up with Atlantis.

So... want... to play...

I won't though, it would just be silly of me being as I'm handing in my thesis in a month or two. Then I'm definitely going to spend some quality time with CPCS and Holy War!

Re: Spellchecker - CPCS MA game (recruiting 7/10)

Seems that recruiting is slow. It seems like all the recent games starting have filled the player que's for starting games. Well, I'll keep recruiting until the weekend. I If we still miss players after that, I'll devise a smaller map and we'll play with fewer players.

I was also thinking of incorporating this rule on the game, is everyone okay with this? The most dominant problem on the school bonus sites is their sneakiness. If you find Ultimate Gateway, you just need to step back on risks and abuse it to win. Well, not anymore.

Quote:

"If a player finds a magical site with a school bonus of 40 or greater, he must immediately send a message (using the in-game messaging system) to all other players about the finding and the province number where the site lies. All construction bonus sites must announced, regardless of the amount of bonus."

Re: Spellchecker - CPCS MA game (recruiting 7/10)

The magic site mod by Endo could be a cool addition to this. I'm not sure if it conflicts with CPCS though. I also don't know OTOH if there are any crazy sites like the UG. Mostly they seem to be interesting recruitables and such.

Re: Spellchecker - CPCS MA game, send in pretenders!

All right, game started. See the llamaserver game page here http://www.llamaserver.net/gameinfo....e=Spellchecker

I changed the map, since urapparrand is way too large for 7 players. Luckily Pasha has created a map called Bering which is uber balanced for 5 land players and 2 water nations. I think that this is fate talking here.

I also changed the victory conditions to reflect the smaller map and amount of players.

I chose Ashdod as my nation.

....

Just kidding! I'm playing Bandar Log. Ihad this cool strat I had to SP test but never found time, so I'll put it directly to MP use. Wise move, huh?

Oh, Trumanator, sorry. Managed to somehow skip over your message. I already started the game and I'll like to keep this thing as close to vanilla as possible. Perhaps in the follow-up game.

So, send in pretenders. Let's get this thing started.

Any chance I could swap to Tien Chi? There seems to be far less water on this map, and TC would be awesome for trying out the cross path spells.

Hmm.. Okay. I'll take R'lyeh myself then so that we will have 2 water nations.

My Bandar Log strat was less than optimal anyway. Basically just horders of low-mr atavi Sticks & Stones chaff + spammed Fortuna's Meddling. It's hideleously easy to counter, but pulling it off even once..

Damn, that'd be awesome.

Sorry, but I already started the game when I noticed that the seventh player, PsiSoldier, had sent in his pretender.

We also don't have a good map for 6 land players and 2 water players. Perhaps next time..

No problem, it's only a couple of days.

And don't be so hard on yourself, you haven't staled even once in this game :D .

Something wrong with llamaserver?
I didnt receive my turn yet, though server says all .2h files are received. oO

Re: Spellchecker - Game on!

Okay, just noticed a bug. The "Call Drowned" -spell is bugged due to a missing "-sign in code. Do not script it! Casting it might crash the game (causing automatic stale trun for everyone).

The UW-only combat spells Chaotic Currents, Befoul, Ink Strike & Surge of Algae are likely corrupt too.

There might be a way to fix it, but I need to discuss it with llamabeast first.

Okay, I have updated the version of CPCS on the llamaserver. If all the players do the same, it shall be as if the error never existed. :)

Farewell good players, the poor goblins of Shinuyama have been vanquished by the evil hordes of Ermor. Beware his numberless shades, his hordes of longdead horsemen, and his silent Nightmares.

I havent checked this thread in a while.. Are we supposed to have updated to a new version of CPCS since the game had started? If so I didnt get a PM or anything about it.. PM me if I do need to update it or something.

I was in a good mood, so I gave you 8 hour extension, just to be on the safe side.

It's pretty easy to check if you have the new version. Look up the spell "Call Drowned" in conjuration 3. If the description doesn't have any odd symbols after the text, you have the right version.

About the game situation; Shinyama is out, and six players are still competing. Ermor is leading with two capitals, but he still needs two more...

Hmm. True. This is bad.

I'll create a thread looking for subs. I guess that we'd need at least 2 subs to continue the game.

If we can't find subs, eh, I guess we'll have to declare the game finished. No point playing with 3 AI nations

Postpone it further please, while we wait for the subs.

Just go to the game page and request a turn resend. I changed the atlantis e-mail.

Ermor have been turned AI, so expect AI type stuff from them from here on. Happy gaming everyone :)

Burnsaber July 23rd, 2009 12:31 PM

Re: Spellchecker - Game on!

Ok, the game seems to be going along nicely, but I'm going to get eliminated soon. We need a new face to act as admin. Any volunteers? It won't be hard with 3 players left.

Remember the victory conditions people. 4 capitals. According to my sneaky star children, T'ien C'hi is doing a good job of Ermor (Especially now when I eliminated over 700 undead from him in a castle battle. You know what kind of smiting happens when a star chiidren prophet casts it with peneration item and 8 slaves and power of the spheres? (for reference that's holy power 3+1+3=7 and +6 penetration). It was pretty epic.

So atlantis will have 2 capitals. Vanheim probably has Panganeas by now and T'ien C'hi will end up with 3 (own, ermor & Shinyama). It's going to be nice three-way with everyone having a shot in a win.

Hmmm...

I feel bad posting this, because I only just subbed in, but I will be going on a trip on next tuesday (enough time for this turn and maybe next turn).

I will try to find a sub for the time.

Durr..

Sorry, but I kinda forgot to extend the turn. If you want to, we could commence a rollback operation when you come back (a'k'a we agree on a time on wednesday when I rollback the turn, then you send turn 52 and I force host, that should leave us with 0% complications).
