Tank Database

4 Attachment(s)
Tank info for ver 4.5 MBT
Open office & works download included plus a couple of preview pics
Done to make selecting opponents faster as can check quicker if you have any chance of penetrating & easier to find than some encyclopaedia entries.
Know your enemy

Notes
Info taken straight from OOB dump may be a few errors as had to set up to import gun data but looks okay from initial check.
Things are generaly left blank rather than entering a zero so if has no HEAT round leaves blank rather than entering zero, forgot vision.
Heat armour rating is only listed if it differs from steel.
Only front armour ratings are listed.
APCR is best penetration for AP or APCR round if carries both did not list AP separately.
Note some tanks esp T-50 series carry few special rounds in a lot of cases AP for is 19 early 21 late when run out.
Ammo loads are listed at far right.

To do
Have not looked yet but some entries will be able to be deleted as same tank with different ammo loadouts, not important if reasonable loadout.
Did not include CS tanks but some are still in there as listed as MBT.
Also on classes will sort for instance Green includes light tanks in MBT class this will be done later as add light tanks SP Guns SP ATGM etc.
Will add other major threats & it should be noted till do early years some powerful TD SP Guns & of course modern Kuerassier & the like

If anybody has the time suggest splitting into decades & doing a few macros to see what it can kill & be killed by.
Post back here
Most vehicles start & end dates cover the year so selecting in year blocks is close enough for most as only a few start or end mid year.
Will get round to eventually but hands full at the moment deciding what to add & any suggestions on how to lay out for sorting will be listened

If somebody can do better please do I am by no means a database wiz

New Microsoft Works Version available a few posts down

Re: Tank Database

Good job.
Any way of having the first line stuck so that when you scroll down the list it remains visible? I am talking about the Open Office version.

Re: Tank Database

Brazil, Czech Republic, Ukraine, South Africa, Israel, Serbia, are also arms dealers, not to the extend of the top 5, but still sell plenty.

Re: Tank Database

And so are Poland, Sweden, Finland, North Korea and innumerable others. It's just a matter of drawing an arbitrary line somewhere.

Re: Tank Database

Fair point & varies by time frame it was more a way of putting major cold war players together.

New Version

1 Attachment(s)
New upload Works with some functionality.
Still basic as doing but can do the following.

1) Under Tools select Filters > Date & Theatre Provided so far.
Under Field name select what you want.
The first is year
The others are theatres
At present applying the filter will display 1980 Middle East
If change none to Asia will display for Asia & Middle East for example or
Select 80 81 82 83 Asia for 1980-83 Asia

To return to default select view & show all records

2) A & H Column how to use idiot guide.
Find the tank you want & in the top cell enter its AP value in A & its HEAT or missile value in H
Press Edit & select field then fill down you will have a row of green numbers.
If you now look at Armour ratings they will have changed (TF,HF,TFH,HFH)
Any negative number is the amount you have overpenetrated ignoring range & ERA
Any positive number means you cant kill from the front :)

Note for fill down to work you must enter number in top cell & be below the splitter.
To return to default settings just clear A & H coloums

I realise a few tanks are out of order will get round to once add vehicles which will be a while.
With extra filters will be able to set to show tanks only or several classes say tanks & SP ATGM

As an example play with do the following
1) Select view > show all records to return to default
2) Choose a tank & enter its AP & HEAT numbers in A & H
3) Choose date(s) & theatre(s)
It can take on anything that shows negative armour values ignoring other factors.
Or
1) Choose a theatre setting date to all
2) Select a tank
3) Trim date & enter data

You might find a few powerful tanks you did not know about
Please comment if you find usefull & if you would like other vehicles added or not.
I am thinking SP ATGMs possibly foot as well
Cavalry tanks & some light tanks & armoured cars TD or equivalent
Not going to bother with RPG jeeps everyone has near enough when usefull.
Might add 5 year blocks if seem usefull.

Re: Tank Database

Its actually quite intresting when laid out like this you can see tank progression quite well & its surprising how long WW2 stuff kicks around for in some armies. A few get half decent guns & several WW2 TD knock around for quite a while to.
Tanks hung around for a while till the 80s turned up when constant upgrades seemed the norm for big players which probably made Russia think its all getting a bit expensive.

Re: Tank Database

I tend to think the current "bigger is better" trend with tanks is much like the trend the worlds navys keep following with ships.

Galley=>Bireme=>Trireme
Frigate=>Galleon=>Ship-of-the-Line
Dreadnaught=>1930's era Battleship=>WW II era Battleship
Etc.

Eventually they get too big to be practical and everyone down-sizes.

If not...well...I guess the term "Bolo" may not be pure sci-fi after all in another 20-30 years.

Wdll May 6th, 2009 06:26 PM

Re: Tank Database

I believe the tanks are here to stay and perhaps get a bit bigger too. The main threat, ATGMs, could be minimised by a more active defense system, that would require some room. If such a system became good enough, the tanks will not lose their purpose. IMO of course.

Suhiir May 7th, 2009 06:27 PM

Re: Tank Database

Look at the top end T-90's...they have a pretty effective active defense VS ATGMs.

And I'm not trying to imply tanks are going away anytime soon...and more then likly ever. On the other hand most modern IFV's would eat a WW II tank for lunch.
