Amazing feats from your units?
Sometimes we have a unit that defies reality, or just does really really well.
In a recent game, I had two four man scout teams that I had stuck in front of my defensive line to spot the enemy as they came in. Over the course of the game, one scout team sneaks off to blow up 2 T34's. The other is whittled down to one man, but manages to hold back a platoon and a half of russians, with his Mauser firing frantically. So tell us some stories :) |
Re: Amazing feats from your units?
A couple games ago in my Russian LC (10/41), my KV-1 company commander destroyed an entire Pz 38 company in 2 1/2 turns.
The Pz's came out of a small, edge of map forest onto the rear flank of my KV company, the command tank reaction shot 3 of them, one shot kills, then dispached another 6 with 7 shots on my half of the turn. The rest of the company came out of the forest next turn, with the same results. The German infantry riding along took horrible losses as their rides brewed up beneath them, my HQ tank and the Marine company HMG section routed the rest in short order. In ~ 4 turns, both the tanks and the infantry had been either destroyed competly or routed so completly the never became a real threat again. Matt |

Re: Amazing feats from your units?
In my last battle, I had a platoon of T-34/76s ambush and anialate about 40 german tanks. One of them got over 20 kills by himself. All this was done with no damage to the platoon and with very minimal infantry support.
In the same battle I had two tanks take out enemy units at over 1300 meters with less then 20% to hit, thus saving a platoon of infantry and victory objectives. |
Re: Amazing feats from your units?
Ha! I just had another one this morning. I've got a Puma AC that is currently stalking my opponent's tanks.
1st amazing feat - He snuck around the southern flank unseen and put three shells into the rear of a Kv-85, damaging it (I don't know how badly) without taking any fire. 2nd amazing feat - he faced down what seems to amount to two Kv-85s at <350meters, one T-34/76 at 50 meters and I think I took fire from a OT-34 at <300 meters and SURVIVED!!!!! He was shot at at least a dozen times! 3rd amazing feat - This "kitten," as my opponent refered to him, smoked the T-34/76 head on with his one and only shot allowed on his turn. This is amazing since even the turrent armour on the 34/76 was at or above the penitration of my gun and there was no "extra penitration" message that popped up. Not to mention the suppression and the shot was at 54% hit probability. 4th amazing feat - He escaped into the wilds with only slight damage. GIVE THAT MAN A MEDAL!!!!!!! I'm sure my opponent may not see this as amazaing as my "kitten" will be back to torment him again! :D Needless to say, I was holding my breath through the whole thing. |
Re: Amazing feats from your units?
No wonder why the other guy is posting about unrealistic results at unimaginable odds!!!!!:D:D:D:D

Re: Amazing feats from your units?
How about disastrous feats from your units.
I am playing a PBEM Soviet vs US 1952ish. I had my 4 heavy T-10s stationary in woods with 200m open ground in front and a lone infantry in the woods ahead. Hoping to have the enemy rout the infantry and chase him into the open field. It worked perfectly up to this point. One of his heavies came to the edge of the woods. My tanks open up with a 75% hit chance no hits. He fires hits one of my tanks and suppresses it. The other three fire again 2 hits no damage. He brings another tank to the edge 3 more shots 75%or so to hit no hits. His tanks fire and suppress my tanks. My turn, all 4 tanks will not rally and I have to withdraw. A nice ambush gone completely wrong. Oh by the way, my sacrificial infantry immobilized one of his tanks in the woods only good thing to come of it. |
Re: Amazing feats from your units?
I had a low cost 8 point Marksman kill 2 PZ IIIg's solo via Mills bomb assault. I was in a defend - the Marksman had range set to 1, and his job was to be a human early warning trip wire. He did better than that! Sadly, he was swarmed the next turn with Infantry, but a Posthumous VC seems in order.

Re: Amazing feats from your units?
'43 meeting engagement against Germany. My core (rifle coy with platoon of SU-76) is bolstered by 2 companies of penal troops who will feint against the northern objective cluster. I set the cowardly criminals up in two extended lines about 150 meters apart and cut them loose in a straight forward advance, pausing only to let the commisars dress lines. Meanwhile I get all clever in the south with my core with sneaky advances and reverse slope defenses.
The short version is: The penal companies, with some help from the artillery, kicked SS posterior. The criminal troops broke often but rallied well and were able to return to the fray. Each section of advancing stormtroopers was met by a platoons worth of Russian fire. In several cases, the cream of Nazi soldiery surrendered to my boys in prisoner's uniform. Sadly the penal troops were in support only and could not be promoted into the core after their decisive victory. |

Re: Amazing feats from your units?
I'm afraid to report this one, I might jinx myself.
Germans are assaulting me outside of Leningrad now, with multiple regiments of off board 105mm and 15cm guns. Apparantly the Kapitan of my counter-battery unit is taking this personally, because he has fired 5 CB missions in the first 12 turns of the game. He's not just lobbing a few shells, either, most of his missions are landing 14 or more hits with his 152's. :sec: :sec: :sec: At this rate, I'm worried about his ammo state, just from CB fire. It's not slowing down the Germans much so far, but if he keeps rolling 20's and pounding them, it may make a difference yet. Re: Amazing feats from your units?
Take a tour to Scenario 310 - Tiger 134.
That lone Tiger commanded by the "Ultra-man" tank ace Willy Fey destroyed some dozens of allied Sherrys, Valenties, and a whole company without a single scratch. |
Re: Amazing feats from your units?
Did the same in real life to I think but the best was a guy forget his name who took on an entire Russian tank Division & got them running after about 30 kills when other armour showed up. Cant remember as read a while back but he was only tank in the area & got 30+ before a platoon of MKIVs turned up & they ran. He then gave chase but to slow & had over 80 kills credited by the time Normandy got him. Unconfirmed reports said an ammo truck from repair park was parked behind the crest line passing ammo.

Michael Wittmann?

This guy was the only tank in the area because the tank had thrown a track earlier so was nearby when the cry for help went out. Dont know why but think this guy got 86 confirmed tank kills so about 50 short of Wittmann. |
Re: Amazing feats from your units?
A single troop of three British cruiser tanks is carrying the day in my most recent battle. Led by Lt Randall, everywhere these tanks went they had success. They were responsible for breaking the German attack, and immediately exploiting that situation into a deep penetration and successful flanking attack on German armour and positions.
The troop had accumulated kills of six Panzer IVs, two heavily armed halftracks and a Wespe SP artillery, plus infantry and crews. Lt Randall’s tank was responsible for three of the Panzer IVs and one halftrack. Then, Lt Randall’s tank was following about 150 yards behind a British halftrack loaded with infantry down a road deep in German territory. The halftrack ran into and was attacked by some crew escaping down the road. Randall loaded an HE round and fired at the crew, missed, hit the back of the halftrack which exploded and killed or wounded every infantryman on board, only the halftracks driver and co-driver escaped! I've seen misses hit other vehicles before, but it's rare, and even rarer to hit your own AFV. In this case the halftrack was in the same hex as the targeted crew. What stinks is that I was planning to award Lt Randall a DSO for his accomplishments. (He would get renamed at the end of the battle ‘Lt Randall DSO’) The DSO is usually only awarded to officers Major and above, but is occasionally awarded to junior officers with exceptional merit. Now what to do? Can’t award him a DSO after such serious fratricide, despite being accidental. Since that incident, the other two tanks under his command have KO an additional two Panzer IVs; bring the troop total to eight Panzer IVs! I think I may only award him a Military Cross, and bury the incident in the paperwork. In future he will only use his MGs in a similar situation. cheers, Cross |

So ALL occupants of the frat halftrack were casualties, and there were no other witnesses because that section of the road could not be seen by my other forces. :re: cheers, Cross |
Re: Amazing feats from your units?
What about the tank crew?
They were witnesses. Guess he'll either buy their silence or better yet make sure, they don't talk:shock: |

From a realism standpoint; this sort of thing was much more common than is generally acknowledged. I guess it's not the sort of thing that troops want to talk about. And I'm sure it was usually covered up or at least not mentioned/avoided in the paperwork. cheers Cross |

Had slightly diffrent one a while back, enemy tank shot at my halftrack & hit the tank beside it Grrrrrrr. Missing & hitting a better target probably does not happen that often. |
Re: Amazing feats from your units?
Randall cracked!
Load him with barbiturates and send him home!:) |
Re: Amazing feats from your units?
Had this happen more than once,
Forgot to unload a squad from a tank and run into hidden infantry which KO's tank and squad. When will I learn? Doh. |
Re: Amazing feats from your units?
Here is an odd one just happened in my AI campaign game. (it is an assault) I was trying to move my mouse to the left of the screen to view the area ahead near the edge of the map. I accidently hit my keyboard with the mouse and off went my Sdkfz222 it moved about 10 hexes and ended its move on top of a hvy howitzer in the middle of a group of howitzers. The brits had some AA dug in about 6 hexes away and they unloaded on my 222. They missed me but took out 2 of the dug in howitzers and suppressed a 3rd into retreat. During their turn they finished off the 3rd howitzer. All that and I never fired a shot. Unfortunately my 222 was routed and took off like a scared rabbit. Now I can shoot a hundred rounds at a dug in howitzer and not even rout it but all this was done by 4 40mm bofors or maybe 5 (I wasnt paying much attention as was p'ed about the accidental movement)

Re: Amazing feats from your units?
Now, who should be awarded the Knight's Cross, the Bofors' gunners, or the "scared rabbit" SdKfz 222? :)
|
Re: Amazing feats from your units?
Yea I guess I could say that the 222's radio antenna got shot off and he just wanted to get back to headquarters to report the location of the AA guns and give a sit rep.:D:D:angel

Re: Amazing feats from your units?
I know this is a WW2 thread but I just had a Mag'ach (Israeli tank) move to rescue an APC, it was a desperate move. Hit chance 11% versus the threats thought I might get one but was going to use the discharger. 3 shots later 3 burning wrecks then it fired at a near by squad with its MGs killing 3 men. During the enemy turn it then managed to hit a helo that the Hovets failed on despite good hit chances with 4% I think. Dont know what they use for a lucky charm but the gunners got one.
