DAR: Taiwan vs China - Who Turn Out The Lights?
Taiwan vs. China
Mission: Meeting Engagement, Sinai, 7/2009 - scattered objectives. Enemy: Reinforced Battalion – 2-3 Armor Co, 3-4 Infantry Co (Mech, Motor and/or Light), 2-3 Artillery Btry, plus SAM, AAA, etc. Average force experience, ~70. Terrain: Map = 100x100. Moderately wooded and hilly terrain. Hills range from 10-20 in height and are scattered about the map. Open patches are also scattered around the map with many wheat fields and just plain “fields”. Isolated rough patches can be found as well. There is one east-west dirt road in the bottom third of the map that turns to the south southeast at the enemy deployment line and one north-south road 100m west of the enemy deployment line. Visibility = 2!!!!!! Troops: “Light” Infantry Battalion w/divisional attachments - 3 Infantry Co.and 1 Bttn. HQ Co. (1 Commando Plt., 4 107mm Mortar sections, 2 AT sections, 1 Infantry SAM section, 2 Scout sections and one FO). Support units are 1 Artillery Bty (4 155mm TRF1 FH, off board), 1 Ammo Truck and 2 jeeps (unarmed). Average force experience, ~80. Time: 33 Turns Analysis My force is basically light, going without transport aside from a few support vehicles. It seems well suited for the terrain found on the Taiwan maps. The three line infantry companies need to be deployed within supporting range of at least one other one since it takes too much time for troops to shift significantly. In general, all sections of the front need to be watched, but not necessarily defended. Since my force reacts slowly to breaches in the line, I need to be able to see danger in advance. At a minimum, all high speed avenues of approach must be covered. The long range and accuracy of modern weaponry allow this to be done easily. On this map, there is only one road to worry about, the one running east-west. This road will have to be denied to the enemy and utilized by friendly forces if possible. The north-south road will be of little benefit to either side. Such roads are only useful for shifting troops along the battle line. By the time my forces get there, the enemy forces will be defeated. For the Chinese, they will be well across that road when the fighting starts. IF they fail to cover the east-west road (very unlikely) and I can get to the north-south road easily, I could use it as a flanking route. I’ll keep it as an option, but I don’t expect this to happen. Visibility, well basically there is none. Heavy reliance will be placed on units with thermal imaging and image intensification equipment. Neither the Chinese nor Taiwanese regular infantry have TI or II. This will raise the importance of specialized units, AT, scouts, SAM and elite troops, which typically have some vision enhancements. Infantry forces should keep to wooded and covered areas to avoid engaged by tanks without means to respond. This is normally the case anyhow, but it is compounded by the low visibility. Tanks actually have a chance to spot the infantry before the infantry spots them, a rare instance in WinSPMBT battles. Trees and low hills help balance out the visibility problem. No one can see through trees and the hills are low enough that the trees block the line of sight of units on the hills in most places. There are enough trees to provide concealed east-west avenues of approach. The lone exception is a relatively open area (1000m x 500m) along the southern edge of the map. It’s not an area for infantry to be traveling through, but will make a nice kill zone for enemy armor if it shows up. One area of concern is the objective placement. Specifically, the distant objectives controlled by the enemy will be hard to reach. Normally, there is a road somewhere close to those that infantry can run down once the resistance has ended and capture them. Not so in this case. The far objective is 1.2km east of the north-south road at its closest point. That point is 2.3km north of the intersection with the east-west road, which is 1.9km down the east-west road from my deployment line. My infantry would have to move over 4km down the roads just to have to do another 1km+ cross country. That wouldn’t be bad except they will have to fight their way through the enemy forces first. Near the end of the battle, I might be able to chance running my jeeps with some troops down the road. Nearer objectives aren’t as much a problem since they are all either in the woods or within 200m of a significantly wooded area. Plan Areas of operation have been broken up into three sectors: north, center and south. The overall objectives are simple. Units in each sector will push forward capturing objectives, destroying enemy forces and supporting as necessary the goals of units in adjacent sectors. North sector forces are composed of the commando platoon, one Javelin section and one scout section. While the force is small, all units have some sort of TI or II capability giving them strength beyond their numbers in this battle. They will cover the northern flank and attempt to reach the six objectives in the sector. Center sector forces consist of two infantry companies. They will each advance in a two up, one back formation and be prepared to support either the north or south sectors as need. There are seven objectives in this sector to capture. Forces in the south sector are composed of one infantry company, one Javelin section and one scout section. They will advance in a two up, one back formation with the reserve platoon echeloned to the right. There are two reasons for this. First and foremost, it was to avoid deploying on the road. Roads attract prep fire. Second, it puts them in a position to help cover the open area on the south edge of the map. Once movement starts, they will shift back to a more centered position. The lead platoons will deploy north and south of the road ensuring the enemy doesn’t use it. The open area will also be covered by scouts and the Javelin teams, with the two jeeps positioned further back. It is expected that they Javelin teams may need to be run for ammo to the truck located on the line between the south and center sectors. There are three objectives in this sector. Units unassigned to the advance, specifically, the battalion HQ squad, battalion support company HQ squad, the FO and SAM team will cover the friendly back edge objective. There are three other objectives in friendly hands, but are located near the LD. It took me a while to figure out there were only 20 objectives. Two flags, worth 95 points and 120 points, are stacked creating one spot in the enemy deployment zone worth 215 points. On board mortars are deployed near the line between the south and center sectors, with two sections in each area. I’m not attaching screen prints for this plan since it really isn’t very exotic. My forces deploy and move forward. Using infantry, it’s not possible to get flashy. Most battles end up being brute force on brute force. |
Re: DAR: Taiwan vs China - Who Turn Out The Lights?
Turn 0 (Prep Fire)
No prep fire. Casualties Friendly: Zero. Enemy: Zero. |
Re: DAR: Taiwan vs China - Who Turn Out The Lights?
Turn 1
Forces moving forward in all sectors. No enemy sighted, but with a visibility of 2, that was expected. Casualties Friendly: Zero. Enemy: Zero. |
Re: DAR: Taiwan vs China - Who Turn Out The Lights?
Turn 2
Forces continuing to move forward. Approaching two objectives; one in the center sector and one in the south. No flags turned by the enemy yet. Casualties Friendly: Zero. Enemy: Zero. |
Re: DAR: Taiwan vs China - Who Turn Out The Lights?
Turn 3
One Javelin team in position in south sector. The remaining two should be set in the next couple of turns. I'm still trying to get them in position in the north sector, but the area isn't nearly as open and finding a good spot is more difficult. The enemy just dropped a small smoke screen in the open field down south. Unfortunately for them, the only forces I have that can see it all have TI. No enemy forces sighted yet. I need better eyes on that road since that is where I expect first contact. Casualties Friendly: Zero. Enemy: Zero. |
Re: DAR: Taiwan vs China - Who Turn Out The Lights?
Turn 4
Enemy tanks sighted in the north and south sectors. Down south, one was popped on the road by a Javelin. None seen behind it yet. Up north, a single T-62II is picking its way through the woods. It has TI so I need to have my commandos hunker down and get ready. Friendly forces turned one flag in the center sector and one in the south sector. The enemy turned one in the center sector so I know someone is coming there as well. Casualties Friendly: Zero. Enemy: One T-69II destroyed and zero casualties (the whole crew survived) |
Re: DAR: Taiwan vs China - Who Turn Out The Lights?
Turn 5
North Sector: Four enemy tanks trying to pick through the woods. One assaulted by commando squad without affect. I called in artillery in the off chance the tank would remain stationary, but it moved. I'll have to cancel that call. Three recon jeeps tried to come busting through, but two were capped by a scout patrol. The last dropped off an enemy scout section. Both the jeep and the scout are 100m from mine. Center Sector: No enemy sighted. South Sector: Got jumped by a couple of JL-8 fighter-bombers. The enemy are really lucky those didn't go after their units. I've seen that a lot in previous battles. It cost me one of my two jeeps and a few troops. More enemy tanks are pushing down the road and one more got zapped. Casualties Friendly: One Jeep destroyed and estimated 10 casualties.. Enemy: One T-69II tank and two BJ212 Jeeps destroyed, 10 casualties. |

Turn 6
North Sector: It's a knife fight in the woods against the enemy tanks. Two have been destroyed and one immobilized. One Javelin team has fired three missiles, but 150m. Too close! All missed and the team has taken casualties from return fire. No more tanks have been sighted so the commandos are moving in on the remaining two. The last two Javelin teams have taken up positions to counter any more tanks from the front and cover the back if the last one breaks through. The last enemy recon jeep was destroyed and the scouts with it. Center Sector: Two Chinese T-62II tanks popped out of the woods near my infantry. One tank was assaulted and immobilized. A helicopter also popped out next to one squad and got shot down. South Sector: Chinese rockets coming in on my reserve platoon. Between the rockets and fighter-bombers, it has taken a beating. Further forward, the line units destroyed the last two enemy tanks. One at range with a Javelin and one as it tried to push down the road. The last tank came to within 100m of once squad which popped it with an integrated AT weapon. Casualties Friendly: Estimated 10 casualties. Enemy: Two T-69IIs, two T-62IIs and one Z-5 helicopter destroyed, 20 casualties. Below are the hot spots at the end of turn 6: |
Re: DAR: Taiwan vs China - Who Turn Out The Lights?
Turn 7
North Sector: The enemy tanks haven't been destroyed, but things got hot enough that the crew from the immobilized tank bailed and got capped. That leaves one very lively Chinese tank there. It destroyed by Javelin team and hit my scouts again. I hope to finish it off this turn. It should have left while it had the chance. Center Sector: The two enemy tanks were destroyed, but two more popped out of the woods. Both were assaulted, but survived. Without infantry support, they won't last long. South Sector: Clear of enemy units for now. One Javelin team is hitching a ridge back for ammo. Casualties Friendly: Estimated 5 casualties. Enemy: Two T-62II tanks destroyed, 10 casualties. |
Re: DAR: Taiwan vs China - Who Turn Out The Lights?
Turn 8
North Sector: The last enemy tank was immobilized and the crew bailed. They are trying to get away, but there are a lot of angry commandos nearby so that won't happen. Center Sector: Last two enemy tanks destroyed by infantry. One enemy APC spotted by scouts about 400m out front. Counter battery plotted on a suspected enemy mortar position. South Sector: No enemy units sighted in sector, but fighter-bombers and rockets are back. I traded my last jeep for a JL-8. At least I unloaded the Javelin team last turn for resupply. My reserve platoon regrouped after the last rocket attack, moved forward about 250m and got hit again. The heaviest casualties in the south are to a platoon not on the line. Casualties Friendly: Estimated 10 casualties. Enemy: Two T-62II tanks and one JL-8 fighter-bomber destroyed, 10 casualties. |
Re: DAR: Taiwan vs China - Who Turn Out The Lights?
Turn 9
North Sector: Put the torch to the abandon enemy tank and zapped the crew. Commandos spreading out again. Javelin team has spotted an APC chasing a flag about 750m to the front. Center Sector: One scout patrol blundered into an enemy mech infantry company moving up. It took casualties, but is still active. Artillery has been plotted and my infantry is deploying in the woods to engage them. The enemy are pretty much in the center of the sector, so I've got two infantry companies available to deal with them. It shouldn't be a problem. Firing counter battery at two enemy mortars. South Sector: More enemy rockets, but nothing else. Casualties Friendly: Estimated 10 casualties. Enemy: One T-62II tank, estimated 5 casualties. |
Re: DAR: Taiwan vs China - Who Turn Out The Lights?
Turn 10
North Sector: Rockets are now hitting my commandos. Those guys just don't get a break. A Javelin team destroyed the enemy APC spotted last turn. Center Sector: Scouts took some shots at enemy motor infantry spotted. Trucks are also spotted out front, so the enemy may have two infantry companies moving forward. Still no worries. Counter battery destroyed one enemy 82mm mortar section and hit another. South Sector: Enemy infantry and tanks advancing. Five tanks are at the road intersection and some infantry is about 300m in front of them. One of my scouts engaged them at 150m. Two enemy SPAA units busted down the road. One was destroyed, but the other destroyed an AT team. Casualties Friendly: Estimated 10 casualties. Enemy: One Type 63G APC, one Type 56 SPAAMG and one 82mm mortar sec destroyed, estimated 20 casualties. |
Re: DAR: Taiwan vs China - Who Turn Out The Lights?
Turn 11
North Sector: Rockets shifted to the south a bit so casualties were light in the commando units. Center Sector: Four enemy APCs destroyed trying to push into the woods. There are nine more visible, so I might have three enemy infantry companies in this area. Scouts and SAMs engaged the few enemy infantry squads spotted, inflicting some casualties. The enemy can't see to fire back. Counter battery hit the remaining enemy mortar again, but I'm going to have to change targets. Too much real activity to the front right now. South Sector: Scouts took some shots at the advancing infantry, sending a few running. My infantry is taking up positions to deal with the tanks, while artillery has been plotted. A third enemy SPAA unit showed up. Casualties Friendly: Estimated 5 casualties. Enemy: Two Type 63G APC and two Type 86-I IFV vehicles destroyed, estimated 20 casualties. |
Re: DAR: Taiwan vs China - Who Turn Out The Lights?
Turn 12
North Sector: The rockets finally stopped. My commandos can breath again. Another flag chasing APC turned up and got popped by a Javelin. The squad dropped off was engaged by two scout teams nearby. Center Sector: One more enemy APC destroyed, while one is forcing one of my squads back. My line is being held by two platoons right now. Reserves are behind the line, but I'm holding off committing them until I find out where they will be most useful. Artillery is starting to hit the enemy forces hard. South Sector: Destroyed on more SPAA unit, leaving one left. There were a total of eight enemy tanks advancing, but artillery got one. Enemy infantry only seems to be platoon strength at the moment. The Javelin team that had to resupply is running forward to help with the situation, while another is shifting around to the enemy left flank. Casualties Friendly: Estimated 5 casualties. Enemy: One Type 63G APC and one T-59II tank destroyed, estimated 25 casualties. |
Re: DAR: Taiwan vs China - Who Turn Out The Lights?
Turn 13
North Sector: Scouts still firing on enemy squad. No other activity in sector. Center Sector: Two more enemy APCs destroyed. There are a bunch hold position about 100m from my line so I'm going to risk cluster artillery on them. Some enemy infantry is trying to push through a small gap in the middle created by one of my squads being destroyed. My artillery is hitting the enemy hard and they've taken notice. Rockets hit one of my mortar platoons, destroying one section and causing the other to run. South Sector: I got four more enemy tanks on or around the road. This was all done with artillery. Their infantry is running, but more are coming up so this is more like company strength. My scouts continue to fire at them through the smoke and darkness doing considerable damage. Casualties Friendly: Estimated 10 casualties. Enemy: One T-69II and three T-59II tank destroyed, two Type 63G APCs destroyed, estimated 35 casualties. |
Re: DAR: Taiwan vs China - Who Turn Out The Lights?
Turn 14
North Sector: Enemy squad finally destroyed. Commandos found a tank crew and weren't very kind as well. Sector seems empty of enemy units now. Center Sector: Enemy infantry trying to push forward, but squads that reach my line are getting chopped up. Scouts continue to work on the flanks beyond the visibility of the enemy. Artillery is still hitting the enemy infantry hard and my cluster rounds were almost perfect. Three enemy APCs destroyed and I heard a number of good "thunks". One took off running to the east. My reserve infantry is moving to close the small gap between two platoons. It's too early to say this enemy attack is stopped, but it's certainly stalled. South Sector: Destroyed two more tanks with infantry, but one is coming up the road from the intersection. Several trucks were spotted dropping off more infantry. As with the center sector, I can't say this attack is stopped, but it is also stalled. Unlike the center, my infantry is moving forward here. Way down along the south edge, one of my scouts has crossed the north-south road into the enemy deployment zone. It is hunting down an enemy mortar section that was the target of counter battery fire earlier. Casualties Friendly: Estimated 5 casualties. Enemy: Two T-69II tanks, one Type 63G APCs and two Type 86-I IFV APCs destroyed, estimated 35 casualties. |

Turn 15
North Sector: A couple of ATGM vehicles seen along the sector border, but they don't have any anti-infantry capability so are of no concern. No other enemy sighted. Center Sector: Enemy forces probing along my line, but are all getting thrown back. My line forces shifted, closing the gap. Reserves have stopped moving and reformed. Friendly artillery is still hitting their infantry, but it's hard to gage results. There is a group of APCs still out 100m from my line, but I'm just about out of cluster munitions. Javelin teams up north are trying to get an angle for a shot. South Sector: Enemy tank moving forward north of the road. I've got a Javelin team that might have a shot next turn. Friendly infantry is pushing forward as the enemy infantry retreats. They got the last SPAA unit on the road. Artillery is hitting the enemy as well. Casualties Friendly: Estimated 5 casualties. Enemy: One Type 56 SPAAMG destroyed, estimated 20 casualties. Screen prints of center and south sector: |
Re: DAR: Taiwan vs China - Who Turn Out The Lights?
Turn 16
North Sector: Enemy infantry squad popped out of woods 500m west of north-south road. It was engaged by friendly scouts in the area. Center Sector: Enemy infantry still poking at my line, but every one that shows up next to it gets thrown back. I just captured an objective nearby that the enemy use to have and now their infantry has shifted direction. One APC popped through some trees next to it and was engaged by two squads I had sitting there. Friendly artillery is still raining down on them. No enemy artillery is firing. Maybe they are out of rockets. South Sector: The last known enemy tank was destroyed by a Javelin team along the south edge. Friendly forces are pushing forward. Enemy infantry is still arriving, but getting thrown back quickly. Casualties Friendly: Estimated 5 casualties. Enemy: One Type 59-II tank and one Type 86-I IFV destroyed, estimated 15 casualties. |
Re: DAR: Taiwan vs China - Who Turn Out The Lights?
Turn 17
North Sector: Commandos are moving forward unopposed in sector, but are way behind other sectors. Scouts are continuing to pepper enemy squad, inflicting a few casualties. I pulled one scout back because I figure that squad isn't alone and I don't have much in the area. Center Sector: My last cluster round scored big. It hit center mass of the enemy APC group and destroyed all five. There is a sizable pocket of enemy infantry that my artillery continues to hit. Time to bring up the reserves and push the attack. One enemy mortar started dropping rounds nearby, but no damage. The enemy infantry got close enough to one of my scouts to take a few shots. South Sector: Still pushing forward, but the enemy is pushing more infantry into the fight. For the most part, their forces are getting chopped up. I've got a couple of 155mm guns dropping HE on the enemy making their position difficult. There are two ATGM vehicles close by, but I don't have anything for them to shoot at. Casualties Friendly: Estimated 5 casualties. Enemy: Two Type 63G APCs and three Type 86-I IFV destroyed, estimated 25 casualties. |
Re: DAR: Taiwan vs China - Who Turn Out The Lights?
Turn 18
North Sector: Finally tossed back the enemy squad. It ducked back into the woods. Having only two scouts here, I probably won't chase it. Commandos are advancing further north and it isn't worth diverting them to help. Center Sector: More fresh enemy infantry is moving in. There must have been three companies in this area. Most of the enemy forces are significantly reduced. Reserves are shifting around each flank to try to close the pocket. It will take them a few turns to get into action. Artillery continues to rain in on the enemy. South Sector: More enemy infantry showing up here, but the reinforcements aren't concentrated enough to stop my push forward. My scout lurking in the enemy deployment zone found and engaged a mortar section. Casualties Friendly: Estimated 10 casualties. Enemy: Estimated 25 casualties. |
Re: DAR: Taiwan vs China - Who Turn Out The Lights?
Turn 19
North Sector: Commandos closing in on objectives near north-south road. Scouts have redeployed to hold objective on hill 500m of road. No real activity in this sector. There is an enemy squad lurking in the woods, but it can stay there. Center Sector: I've started wrapping my two line platoons around the enemy pocket while the reserves move around the flanks. This has caused the center sector to lose contact with the north and south sectors. It's not a major concern as the reserves will reestablish contact when they get into position. Caught two enemy APCs during the move. Three enemy tanks were heading toward the battle line, but I lost sight of them. Artillery continues to hit the pocket, but ammo is getting scarce. South Sector: Pushing forward. Enemy AT and SAM units are showing up. These guys have some sort of II equipment, so my infantry is popping smoke to block their view. Enemy forces are extremely disorganized. Once I get through the specialized units, resistance in the sector should collapse. My scout unit is still popping away at the enemy mortar, inflicting a few casualties. Casualties Friendly: Estimated 10 casualties. Enemy: Two Type 63G APC destroyed, estimated 30 casualties. |
Re: DAR: Taiwan vs China - Who Turn Out The Lights?
Turn 20
North Sector: Sector is basically quiet. There is one enemy squad in the woods and I'm not going to risk getting it. Commandos are still moving forward. Center Sector: Enemy resistance has basically collapsed. I finished off at least 10 routed units and an APC in the pocket. One APC that had been running regained some self respect and attacked. It ended up immobilized. One of the three enemy tanks spotted again and seems to be headed for the pocket. I'm going to lift my artillery so my infantry can clean up. The enemy has some 60mm mortar rounds coming in, but that's nothing to worry about. South Sector: I've pushed the enemy forces into something of a pocket here. It makes artillery much more affective. Fresh enemy units are moving in, but aren't helping the situation. They just add to the panic when the artillery hits. I'm trying to move around the flanks here, but unlike the center sector, I've only got one company and the reserve platoon took a beating from rockets early in the battle. My lone scout patrol was able to destroy the enemy mortar. I'm going to see if I can pick up a flag and then circle back to nibble on the enemy rear. There is a Javelin team heading north toward the road intersection to try to nail some ATGM vehicles. Casualties Friendly: Estimated 5 casualties. Enemy: One Type 63G APC and one 82mm Mortar section destroyed, estimated 30 casualties. |
Re: DAR: Taiwan vs China - Who Turn Out The Lights?
Turn 21
North Sector: I got a commando sniper next to two enemy control flags, but I'm not going to turn them. The enemy has enough live stuff to complicate life for my sniper. He's going to push forward to see if he can make it to the back edge flag. It might work as long as he doesn't stop to play with anyone. I'll wait for the rest of the commando team to take those two flags. They aren't far away. Center Sector: I lost sight of the enemy tank again. There is a motley collection of enemy equipment moving forward in the sector. Aside from the tank, I see two trucks, one gunship, two APCs and a couple of ATGMs. There is nothing I can't handle, but they might make it impossible to get to the far objective in this sector. South Sector: Two enemy tanks turned up in this sector. Somewhere, there is an enemy 60mm mortar dropping rounds on my troops. I wasn't worried about it last turn, but it's a bit more accurate this turn. My forces are still pushing the enemy back. They got up to two enemy ATGM vehicles, destroying one and immobilizing the other. I was wrong when I said this was just one company. In the heat of battle, one platoon from the center sector pealed off and joined in this fight. There is one distant objective that still needs captured. My scout is going for that, but it has to cross the road. I'm worried the road will be clogged with battered enemy units that have recovered enough to be just "pinned". Casualties Friendly: Estimated 5 casualties. Enemy: One ZDF-89 HJ-8 destroyed, estimated 15 casualties. |
Re: DAR: Taiwan vs China - Who Turn Out The Lights?
Turn 22
North Sector: A commando scout bypassed the two flags and zapped an enemy tank crew while the sniper continued to push to the back flag. The rest of the commandos are moving toward the flags. A Javelin team reached into the center sector and destroyed one APC. Center Sector: The lost tank was found in a low spot, while one more showed up. It pounded on one of my infantry squads. The rest of my infantry was beating up on the enemy's disorganized infantry. I dropped some artillery in the tank and some enemy infantry. The enemy gunship is moving in, but has no night vision capability at all. My stingers should be firing at it before they can even be seen. South Sector: One of the two enemy tanks was destroyed. The other ran into an ambush, but survived for the moment. Along the road, the enemy abandoned their ATGM vehicle. I caught the crew nearby and destroyed them and torched the vehicle. An enemy ATGM jeep was in the middle of the routed enemy and was also destroyed. A Javelin team on the north-south road reached into the center sector and also destroyed an APC. Casualties Friendly: Estimated 5 casualties. Enemy: One ZDF-89 HJ-8, one Type 69-II tank and two Type 86-I IFV destroyed, estimated 25 casualties. |
Re: DAR: Taiwan vs China - Who Turn Out The Lights?
Turn 23
North Sector: Commando scout is maneuvering against two enemy ATGM vehicles. They have no anti-infantry capability. One Javelin team out of missiles, so another one is moving up. The enemy squad popped out of the woods again and was blasted by two scouts and the Javelin team without missiles. Remaining forces moving to objectives. Center Sector: I got one of the two tanks here, but the one in the low spot is hard to get at. It can see my infantry before they can see it. I'm going to try to get one of my AT teams to get eyes on the target. Two enemy APCs showed up and dropped their loads. For the most part, enemy resistance is completely disorganized. South Sector: Destroyed last enemy tank in the sector and enemy resistance has totally collapse. My forces are moving east as fast as possible. Casualties Friendly: Estimated 5 casualties. Enemy: Two Type 69-II tank destroyed, estimated 25 casualties. |
Re: DAR: Taiwan vs China - Who Turn Out The Lights?
Turn 24
North Sector: My commando scout doesn't have anything but small arms left, so it can't deal with the ATGM vehicles any better than they can deal with him. I guess he has to wait for help. Center Sector: An AT team moved into position and zapped the enemy tank. My infantry is moving around trying to put an end to enemy resistance. The enemy is still fighting, but it is very disorganized. Their force is almost encircled. The gunship closed to within 50m of several squads and was last seen flying east, full of bullet holes. I dropped a few artillery rounds, planting one on the top of an APC. South Sector: It's pretty much open field running here. Rush up to two ATGM vehicles, destroying one and immobilizing the other. Also got another ATGM jeep. While there are still enemy units around, there is zero resistance. Casualties Friendly: Estimated 5 casualties. Enemy: One Type 69-II tank, Type 86-I IFV, one ZDF-89 HJ-8 and one HJ-8 jeep destroyed, estimated 25 casualties. |
Re: DAR: Taiwan vs China - Who Turn Out The Lights?
Turn 25
North Sector: Lead commando squad showed up and turned two flags. Moving on to enemy ATGM tracks. Center Sector: My forces are swarming around the remaining enemy units in the sector. There are a few battered squads and one APC. South Sector: The last enemy ATGM vehicle was destroyed. Units are heading up north-south road to join in the center sector fight. My battered reserve platoon will guard the road intersection. I've held up my scout down the road to pick off any running enemy units that approach. Casualties Friendly: Zero. Enemy: One ZDF-89 HJ-8 destroyed, estimated 20 casualties. |
Re: DAR: Taiwan vs China - Who Turn Out The Lights?
Turn 26
North Sector: Closing in on enemy ATGM tracks from north, south and west. I could have hit them with artillery, but they might run and can run faster than I can chase. Center Sector: Last enemy APC destroyed. Now mopping up remaining enemy forces. There is one enemy squad moving west. My guess is it is a survivor from an APC destroyed earlier. If I'm right, there might be one more. South Sector: Mopping up leftovers and moving north on the road. Casualties Friendly: Zero. Enemy: One Type 86-I IFV destroyed, estimated 20 casualties. |
Re: DAR: Taiwan vs China - Who Turn Out The Lights?
Turn 27
North Sector: Holding off on attack on ATGM units until all forces in place. Center Sector: Cleaning up enemy and moving east unresisted. South Sector: Engaging two enemy squads in woods along north-south road. There is a whole battered company heading north, so those two squads won't last. Casualties Friendly: Zero. Enemy: Estimated 10 casualties. |
Re: DAR: Taiwan vs China - Who Turn Out The Lights?
Turn 28
North Sector: Started attack on enemy ATGM tracks. No effect yet. Center Sector: Pushing off to last objective in sector. It may be too far away. South Sector: Found a third squad, but have units swarming all over the place. Two destroyed. Casualties Friendly: Estimated 5 casualties. Enemy: Estimated 20 casualties. |
Re: DAR: Taiwan vs China - Who Turn Out The Lights?
Turn 29
North Sector: Enemy ATGM tracks destroyed. Sniper still moving to far flag. There is one closer, but my commando scout will collect it. Center Sector: Moving to last objective in sector. South Sector: Last objective in sector captured. Casualties Friendly: Zero. Enemy: Two One ZDF-89 HJ-8 destroyed, estimated 10 casualties. |
Re: DAR: Taiwan vs China - Who Turn Out The Lights?
Turn 30
North Sector: Moving on last two objectives in sector. Just a note, I don't believe I've seen the enemy HQ unit. It might be near the back edge flag. Center Sector: Moving to last objective in sector. South Sector: Holding positions. Casualties Friendly: Zero. Enemy: Zero. |

Decisive Victory
Turn 33 North Sector: Holding position. Center Sector: I was right, 50m short. South Sector: Holding positions. Casualties Friendly: Zero. Enemy: Zero. Total Casualties Taiwan Men: 128 Artillery: 1 Soft Vehicles: 2 APCs: 0 AFVs:0 Air Transports/Helos: 0 Aircraft: 0 China Men: 739 Artillery: 2 Soft Vehicles: 0 APCs: 29 AFVs: 36 Air Transports/Helos: 1 Aircraft: 1 Score Egypt: 11975 Israel: 948 Final Comments I didn't get all the flags, but I was concerned about the distant ones to begin with. The center sector flag I didn't get to was the second most distant flag and the center was the scene of a very major fight. That fight might have delayed me enough to keep me from getting to that last flag OR I was too distracted policing up routed units to pay attention to the time and distance. It's difficult to say at this point, but I'm willing to believe I could have shaken one or two units off a turn earlier and headed to the objective. Looking at the Chinese force, it appears to be about regiment strength. The AI had four infantry companies (two mech, one motor and one light) and two armor companies. There were also a large number of unattached units. The battle went pretty much as expected. As much as 50% of my casualties can be chalked up to the enemy rockets. They were on target quite a bit. The next battle is an assault. It should be interesting. I haven't had one for quite a while. I've attached the save just before I ended my last turn. |
