DuelGame

1 Attachment(s)
I figured it would be better to make a new thread where we would work out the details, so here it is. After we agree about everything I'll change this post to reflect it.

So, I was thinking all standard settings, no mods. If you want to have a certain mod, speak up and we can talk about it. I'm fine with any age, so I let you choose. I just want the chosen nations to be similar in power. Also, I have no idea which map to use, so please suggest one.

When we agree about these things, I suggest we set a couple hours one day to do the first 10-ish turns (until we run into each other) and switch to 24h after that.

Re: DuelGame

Sign me up for a duel with you or anyone else interested.
I'm good with no mods and any age, although I prefer EA or MA.

Re: DuelGame

So, which of you two are better.. =)

I can't sign you up for a duel with anyone else interested, but I have already signed you up for a duel with me. Why are you confused?

Then no mods and MA it shall be. Feel free to pick your nation.

Any idea about the map?

Psycho July 21st, 2009 11:33 AM

Re: DuelGame

I see a problem with picking nations, because whoever picks second can take a nation that is suited to defeat the first nation. So, we shall both have the right to veto any nation the other chose.

Executor July 21st, 2009 12:01 PM

Re: DuelGame

That will just lead to to us veto-ing all nations until both are forced to use nations like Man or Ulm, any better ideas as to nation selection?

Maybe get an a third person to pick nations randomly so we don't know who the other nation is until we start.

No idea on the map, Silent Seas is always good for a quick fast duel but maybe you'd like a little bigger map.

Gregstrom July 21st, 2009 03:10 PM

Re: DuelGame

Well, how about you both PM nation choices to a neutral third party? I'd be happy to take the role. I can announce the choices simultaneously.

Psycho July 21st, 2009 04:46 PM

Re: DuelGame

That is a good idea, definitively. Well, since Gregstrom kindly offered to help, lets take advantage of that (Thank you Gregstrom). Once we both PM you with our choices, you can just post them here. Also, maybe we should ban Ashdod? And water nations?

I don't know about silent seas, there are too many chokepoints. Maybe something more open would be better.

Executor July 21st, 2009 04:47 PM

Re: DuelGame

I agree, no Ashdod and probably better with no water nations either.
Well how big a map are you thinking?

Psycho July 21st, 2009 05:02 PM

Re: DuelGame

I'll try to make a random map with some 50-60 provinces without water. I've never done it, so I don't know what it will end up like.

Executor July 21st, 2009 05:10 PM

Re: DuelGame

Agreed.
After I see the map I'll PM Gregstorm with my nation.

Psycho July 21st, 2009 07:38 PM

Re: DuelGame

OK, I attached a map to the first post. Check it out and let me know what you think. Use the "8" key to see the neighbors, especially between forest provinces where borders aren't drawn. There are 3 starting locations in the north-west and 3 in the south-east, so you will know where your opponent started, but not the exact province. Water provinces are disconnected, they are there only to create impassable space. But, note that provinces 9 and 14 are connected over water.

Executor July 22nd, 2009 05:51 AM

Re: DuelGame

The map is fine.
Go head and create the game, it would also be more interesting if you left score graphs off.
I'll PM Greg with my nation now.

Also Psycho, it would be good if you left the clock on a, say 10 day hosting time so there is no trouble with sending in the turns if we are busy.

Psycho July 22nd, 2009 06:20 AM

Re: DuelGame

What's the point in score graphs off when there are only two of us? It's not like you'll be pondering who to attack.

I'm not sure about the clock, it will make us lazy in playing turns.

Executor July 22nd, 2009 06:22 AM

Re: DuelGame

But you'll be pondering the army strength, gem income, research rate...

Gregstrom July 22nd, 2009 06:49 AM

Re: DuelGame

Okay, the picks are in.

Drum roll please...

Aaaaand, in the blue corner, undefeated in his last thirty, err, minutes, it's the pride of the frozen North! You'll never know the size of his armies, or even their location. They're glamorous, they're full of cold air, and there's just a hint of blood about them. Playing as Vanheim, it's... Psycho!

Meanwhile, iiiiin the red corner, dripping with the blood of past sacrifices - he says he's given up his Blood Slave habit, folks, but only time will tell whether his willpower will hold up under the strain. He's the lord of Couatls and Eagle Warriors, the King of the Slingers - that's right, people, he's playing as Mictlan, it's.... Executor!!!

(cue masive audience applause)

Executor July 22nd, 2009 07:07 AM

Re: DuelGame

Vanheim a? Well this build is gonna take some time.

Psycho July 22nd, 2009 11:18 AM

Re: DuelGame

Hehe, nice introduction Greg. Exec, take your time, I don't have any time to start before weekend anyway.

Kojusoki July 23rd, 2009 11:34 AM

Re: DuelGame

how about a game with 3 of us?:)

GrudgeBringer July 23rd, 2009 03:50 PM

Re: DuelGame

Trust me...you don't want to get between these two!!

Psycho July 23rd, 2009 04:37 PM

Re: DuelGame

Sorry Kojusoki, I wanted a duel. Besides, we're all set. Maybe next time.

chrispedersen July 23rd, 2009 05:16 PM

Re: DuelGame

Well, I love MA Mictlan, but I think Executor is going to have his hands full on this one. Both awesome players but I'm giving 5-4 on Psycho.

Now if it was executor that had vanheim....

Re: DuelGame

Guys, will you let people observe your duel? That would be really interesting. Silently, of course, and without any public comments.
If yes, I'm interested because I respect you both and would really like to take a look.

analytic_kernel July 23rd, 2009 10:07 PM

Re: DuelGame

I second ano's request, but will also understand if you don't want to give away "proprietary knowledge", "trade secrets", or whatever....

ano July 24th, 2009 04:32 AM

Re: DuelGame

It's a normal practice in common RPC and action games. Starcraft, Warcraft, Quake etc.

Executor July 24th, 2009 05:30 AM

Re: DuelGame

I wouldn't mind that, but just how exactly do you propose we do that?

ano July 24th, 2009 06:42 AM

Re: DuelGame

By setting up redirection at your mail server. Pretty easy in fact though it may not be automated atm. Another feature that could be very useful at llamaserver and even more that for duels.

And without any private comments either, I hope. There is a problem of giving info or advice to the players.

I don't mind anyone watching, hopefully we can trust people in this community. I just hope you don't expect to see some magic, because I don't think I am any better than most of veteran players.

Also, why do you rate Van over Mictlan, Chris? Mictlan has ultra-cheap recruitable-everywhere flying sacreds with two attacks. Also, almost every one of their ordinary troops is a slinger, which is very bad for my skinshifters. I think I am going to lose this one.

Sure.
I don't expect to see magic but maybe some bright thoughts that I didn't come to. Also, duels are always interesting to watch.

The game is set up on llamaserver.

Executor July 26th, 2009 03:04 PM

Re: DuelGame

Enough...

I don't like the fact that my forts are very very expensive.

Executor July 27th, 2009 06:37 PM

Re: DuelGame

Psycho? Still here?
Oh I know what happened, quite obvious really.
Ano has access to our turns so he abused that power, which we so generously granted him, and sent you my turn for reasons still unknowen, however you saw much more than you expected and realized that your puny efforts are useless against the might of Mictlan! :p

All praise :) Lord of the World, the one and only pretender!

Executor July 29th, 2009 05:24 PM

Re: DuelGame

So turn 15 the battles start...
You have 22 provinces right?

Well I know my next duel will have a completly different approach. There are so many things I overlooked.
No matter how good a build you make there is always something you wish you'd changed...

Executor August 10th, 2009 04:59 PM

Re: DuelGame

Psycho, I think I'll have to throw in the towel on this one.
I really don't have time lately and I just keep delaying the turn over and over. The 3 games I'm in currently take a huge amount of time to menage, especially Faerun thanks to Baalz now, and it's just gonna get worse.
I could continue the game but I feel it will only lead to a slow and humiliating loss for me...

Psycho August 11th, 2009 07:39 AM

Re: DuelGame

What!? We didn't have a single fight yet. What do you base that on? I am really disappointed.

If time is the problem, we can postpone the game until you have more time.
