StuG IIIg BMG
Can anyone clarify if a StuG-IIIg was equipped with a BMG or not? Most of the OB entries give it one, but I can't find a single picture of a StuG with a BMG. Online sources are split over if the IIIg had one or two MG's (one being the standard issue AAMG), but those that list 2 don't mention if the second is a CMG or a BMG.
I am not even sure who would work a bow gun in the StuG-III as it only has a 4 person crew so I am thinking that the unit either had only one MG like the IIIf or was fitted with a co-ax which was mistakenly listed as a bow gun in the OB. |
Re: StuG IIIg BMG
Off the top of my head,I think it had a port besides the drivers to stick out a mmg or whatever in the bow.
Stay tuned, because i could be wrong and probably am:) EDIT,Apparently it only has the Main gun and a AA mmg no bow gun in this game. |
Re: StuG IIIg BMG
In game terms CMG uses the turret facing BMG the Bow facing so any none AAMG is a BMG on a vehicle with no turret.

Finnish StuG M40 Units 135 and 23 still have one.
Italian IIIg Unit 351 still has one. The Green TD M1943 Unit 86 has one and AG M1944 Unit 90 both have one. I'll let you know if I find any more. |
Re: StuG IIIg BMG
I'd caught the Finn and Italian ones on my check through but missed the Green. This is why having one vehicle named a half dozen different ways is a PITA when doing searches like this. I have at times resorted to using the Icon number as a search critera but that only works when there is only one Icon of a vehicle.

Re: StuG IIIg BMG
Weapon names are usually the most consistent search criteria. Of course if you go through the OB's enough you get a feeling for where things are.

Re: StuG IIIg BMG
Gee, I guess I just haven't gone through the OOB's enough then to know exactly where each one of the 4718 weapons listed in the OOBs are....
I guess that's how you caught the Russian and Polish LWP ones you didn't mention.....?? Don |

Re: StuG IIIg BMG
I found another one. There is a IIIf under Norway with a BMG. It is unit #129.
There is also no MG34 AAMG in the Norway weapons list so that might need to be added as well. |

An AP hit doesn't make a star-shaped hole like that, unless it was made of glass. looks like the Canuks used a hacksaw on it for dramatic effect. |

Please at least TRY to pay attention Two posts up I told you and everyone else ALL of the Stug III's, no matter what they were called in both SPWW2 and SPMBT have been accounted for and dealt with and that INCLUDES the Norewegian version in SPww2 which, BTW, was deleted along with every other unit in SPWW2 that had a start date after the games end date of 12/46 so there is little point in adding a MG34 AAMG for a unit that no longer exists . I've seen a photo of a panther with similar damage to the turret.

While not quite the same as in the picture, the Panzer IV/70 A at the Musee de Blindes in Saumur, France, is is a classic example of cracked armour.
