Lego shipset

My son, a budding SE IV player has decided to make a lego shipset. He is 13,and dug up some of his considerable old leggo toys. This may take a while for all of the shipsets. The question I have is if we upload the Jpegs from the digital camera (having read Atrocities excellent article) will make sure that they look good, if I upload the pics, could I count on help with rendering, the AI etc. This could be the 1st comunity rendered race. The lego dudes as a race portrait would be GREAT! Looking at what he has, quad racers, rafts for troops etc. we have already photographed a Fighter. This should be interesting!! How many of you have leggos laying around?

Sounds great. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif A lego Ship set would be a great set to add to one's collection. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

The pictures look great.
Try using a black or at least a dark background.
If you want I can edit the pictures. Post them here or send them by email

Q) In that escort... one guy gets 10KT of crew quarters and 10KT of work space (bridge) all to himself? http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

I like those pictures, though you will probably have a lot of trouble with the black pieces vs. masking and space backgrounds. Lighter or coloured pieces would show up better.

I'm almost done of my lego shipset using MLCad and PovRay.

I'm at work now and do not have any of the pictures here. When I get home I'll post a sample of them. (Only need CVs now...)

Anybody have an extra AI around?

Thanks, I've looked at that page.

I have more fun making them from the instructions at brickshelf.com.

Here is a sample of the Battlecruiser. They all have to be resized and stuff like that.

I remember playing with this set when I was a kid.

Re: Lego shipset

Yes I do. I've been working on the shipset since then. Almost done. I've designed most of the ships from real lego sets from the 'classic space' series.

It would have been done sooner but "real life" keeps getting in the way.

I've just gotten ADSL set up at home and hope to try to finish them soon.

Wombat: I still HAVE that series of space Legos. In fact, I was planning to create an SE4 shipset based on them, but like other people, real life got in the way...

I just posted my Lego shipset. Take a look.

DirectorTsaarx: I still have them as well, but all in a cardboard box in storage.

Great looking shipset wombat! I know you put many hours into this. I look forward to playng against them. I do not look forward to the leggo's I may buy for the kid to do another leggo's race! those damn things are expensive

Re: Lego shipset

Nice shipset. I also like the racial description - good explanation of why you need a 10kT bridge and 10kT crew quarters for one pilot...

I notice the dreadnought is from a later Lego series than the other ships... but a nice choice nonetheless.

Too bad Lego's current space stuff is either Star Wars or Mars. I'd like to see them do some more original designs...

Re: Lego shipset

I know. The "Galaxy Explorer" used for the battleship was the largest Classic Space lego I could find. As it was I had to make a few of my own for the smaller ships.

I don't like the space stations but I was at the end of my creative rope when I got to that point.

Probally won't be seeing much in the future. I read a business brief/report awhile back. Lego is losing $$$ BIG time. In today's age of computers/wacky toys/and CCG's the old bystands of my childhood (comics and Lego) are generally going down the tubes. Example, a comic like 'Teen Titans' used to sell over 100,000 copies in the 1980's, now the same comic sells about 24,000 copies per issue.

Lego has just aquired the rights to the 'Harry Potter' series, so look for sets from there. Generally anything that is a 'tie-in' to movies etc they will try for as it generates $$ by name recognition.

Too bad though, I used to love the generic blocks and special sets from way back. Used to build all the 'StarBlazers' and 'G-Force' ships in my spare time from odd blocks. (had a 3 foot Argo once! http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif...)

Re: Lego shipset

Wombat: Don't feel bad about the bases - I think the current Versions stay within the theme of "classic Lego space".

Deathstalker: I've seen the first Harry Potter Lego set; it's not bad. I also read a similar article to the one you read. Although I've also read that the Lego Mindstorms stuff has gathered quite a following among engineers for use with prototype building.

Mudshark: Are you still working on YOUR Lego shipset? I think there's room for more than one Lego-based race (imagine an entire game of SE4 based on Lego races...)
