Swiss MBT March 1957

Started a new PBEM, chose year as March 1957, Opponent chose his nation as Great Britain, so I was comparing MBTs from Switzerland and noticed that the Swiss pz 57 tank has already the L7 105mm while no British Centurions of the time have this gun yet. Is this a mistake? Or could I somehow validly outgun him in the field?

The UK Mk 5/2 is possibly a little late. Conqueror was introduced in 55, and almost immediately rendered irrelevant by the introduction of 105mm armed Centurion MBT.

UK Mk 5/2 ISD is therefore more likely to be 56 than 57.

I think both the Swiss and the Brit version are too early. I'm digging into it now.

Yes I noticed as well the Pz 57 should still have the 20lb and not the 105mm gun.
afaik it's changed in my latest post of obat53.

The Swiss Pz 57 has been corrected. Research is pointing to mid to late 1959 as the earliest for the L7 gun and once I can confirm that the OOB's using it earlier than that will be corrected.

Where's your latest version of obat53 Pats ?

Good catch on the error Drez

I've had it so long I forgot I had it :D

So "Modified Original obat53 (4.5).zip " contains a stock game OOB that you have just made the changes you noted ......correct ?

Did you find a photo for this ??

Unit 692 - <4.7cm IK 35/41 (class 2 Inf-AT) is assigned to nation 0 Unknown – I can see why; it’s actually a bit a silly picture for it…it’s more like LBM 684 – I’ll try to find a better one
Do you still have the original photos you used to make those PIC's you included ??

Thats a bummer, now take the view its going to happen sometime if you use it a lot. Installing a second hard drive is cheap nowadays so can do a full backup. That way if it crashes just swapdrives you boot from & format old one if it still works. If you buy a new computer transfer the backup drive & copy any stuff over you want & your safe again. Saves loads of time if it goes belly up so money well spent in my view.

Could do, but it's my 2nd pc (for gaming) that I don't backup - not my "serius" 1st one :p

If 4.7cm IK 35/41 is indeed what you want in the Swiss OOB then it looks very much like the photo you have in their now and there is no way it's a infantry type AT weapon like a Boyes, it's an AT gun

I don't think I can remember where I thought I have seen a more mobile 4.7 cm gun like e.g. a Boyes or the 20mm Solothurn in the Swiss oob. AFAIK it was only a prototyp - so to say an ancestor of the later 8cm AT weapons. Not so relevant for the game any way. The AT-Gun version is enough.

Re: Swiss MBT March 1957

To come back a bit on the topic, the Swiss MBT need an other change I think.
The upgrade in 2007 of the Leopard 2 tank (Unit 026 - Pz 87 LEO WE) isn't as it could be.
First the extra Armor hasn't been fitted on any of the tanks other then the prototyp and the automatic weapon station on the roof will not be completed at all.

So my suggestion would be to delay the date on Unit 876 for at least 1 year (2009) - because that would represant the full upgrade that would be possible in 2009.

And change the Unit 026 to introduncing 2008 with following modifications:
1st use the picture from Unit 027 (lbm32115) and therefore the same armor as in this earlier version.
2nd swap Weapon2 (228) back to Weapon No 226.

The upgrade is mainly cancelled or delayed due cost reasons and some problems with the new tower equipement.

IDK where you would find anyone large enough and dumb enough to fire a 47mm Boyes or Solothurn type AT weapon. The kick back would be quite invigorating.

I've removed that unit from the OOB
