Fractures - LA Game. And we're done!

The game is now finished. Mictlan won it.

What we have here is all 21 nations late-age game. You might as well roleplay your nation if you want to, but you don't have to. I'm also hoping that you don't bring over too many grudges from other games to this one. And the same goes into exporting them from here - what happens here, should stay here.

Game will end when someone can make a verifiable claim of owning at least 7 capitals for 3 consecutive turns, or if all of the remaining players declare one of the players a winner. For further info, see this post.

Settings:
Mods: CBM 1.6, Streamers & Standards, Magic Site Mod
Restrictions: Ermor and R'lyeh restricted to newer players, should they be picked
Map: Glory of Gods with slightly balanced starting points.
Magic sites at 50 (to encourage magic use)
Diplomacy: Machiavellian. If you can get away with it and you benefit greatly from it, do it. No restrictions on trading/pacts/etc.
HoF entries: 15, renaming on as is normal.
Turns start at 27h, go to 52h from there and if needed, longer.
All other settings as base game. The game is on Llamaserver. You can find how-to use it here.
The game status itself can be found here.

Frankly, I just think that Ermor should be banned if there's going to be any noobs, as inevitably you end up with BS like in Setsumi or Ruby.

I doubt the "inevitably" -part, as it's restricted to a newer player.

Agartha is pretty good in LA you get strong battlefield magics (bladewinds skelly spam shadow blast fire stuff) and cave drakes for early expansion. your main problems are your old age mages can't hit the broad side of a barn and your infantry is both crap and expensive.

Everything's updated so far. We have 9 players, and are looking for preferably at least ~10 more.

I would love to try out R'lyeh. I am a very new player and I have only been playing MP games for a couple of weeks or so.

Svamptripp, you're welcome to join in ;) You might want to watch out for Squirreloid (Atlantis player) though...

We've seen lots of interest so far, and if this goes on, we'll start early this week. I'm still open for map suggestions for around 18 players.

We have 18 players now, if I've counted correctly. There are still spots for a few players, since I won't have the time to start the game today. I'll set up the game to llamaserver monday or tuesday, depending on when we/I decide upon the map.

Allright, we're still missing Caelum from an all-nations game, though I doubt it will see many takers.. Frankly I'm quite surprised at the speed we got players.

LoloMo November 23rd, 2009 12:05 AM

Re: Fracture - LA Game, Sign in! - 20 signups so far.

No Caelum? This will not do at all. Sign me up for Caelum!

vfb November 23rd, 2009 05:53 AM

Re: Fracture - LA Game, Sign in! - 20 signups so far.

We're gonna need a bigger map.

Asia Twist only has starts for 16 land nations, so how about PashaDawg's Epotara?

http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=36259

It's got 292 land for the 20 land nations (14.5 each), and a 16-province ocean for R'lyeh to start in.

Re: Fracture - LA Game, Sign in! - 20 signups so far.

Sounds very good vfb, I'll check it out it out later today. It also seems that we got an all-nations LA game here.

I'd like to hear if anyone objects to Epotara as map.

Ferrosol November 23rd, 2009 08:29 AM

Re: Fracture - LA Game, We're full - pre-game hassle.

Im afraid I am going to have to drop out of this game before it even starts :( my computer broke down Sunday evening and it will likely be at least another week before I can get it mended.

Graeme Dice November 23rd, 2009 11:43 AM

Re: Fracture - LA Game, We're full - pre-game hassle.

As long as everyone agrees to take me out of the game before I have to deal with more than 30 provinces, then that map's fine. Otherwise I'm still a fan of smaller maps.

Quitti November 23rd, 2009 01:38 PM

Re: Fracture - LA Game, We're full - pre-game hassle.

Ferrosol: Sad to see you go, but I understand.

Graeme Dice: Well, 20-nation game, there's bound to be lots of provinces. 15 isn't even on the huge side yet (I think medium setting is 15 prov per player)

We seem to have a free spot for Pythium if anyone wants in. I'll give time for someone to fill in to be Pythium if anyone is interested and if no-one objects to the map by tomorrow, I'll host the game on llamaserver then.

Ossa November 23rd, 2009 01:48 PM

Welcome in Ossa :)

I'd also like to hear if people need a slowdown/whatever for thanksgiving (Which I believe is on this thursday), as we presumably have a couple of players from US.

Anaconda November 23rd, 2009 02:20 PM

Re: Fracture - LA Game, We're full - pre-game hassle.

Thanksgivin' is no slowdown, it's national holiday so it's accelerator!? First 50 rounds during thursday and friday?

Where I can download the proposed map?

Not enough ocean to go around. In addition to Rlyeh, all of Atlantis, Mictlan, Jomon, and probably Agartha and Ermor want a piece of the UW action. If Rlyeh is going to even have a chance it'll need more space. I'd shoot for 25-30 total ocean provinces.

I'd also aim for more like 250 total provinces. Yeah, land will be crowded. It will make the eventual end-game less painful, however.

Edit: AoM Orc is about the right size. Alexander is on the large side, but better land:water balance. Glory of Gods (multiplayer) is about right. Multilayer Map just looks awesome, probably a little large. World of Symmetry is the right size (although i dislike the hex-style for this game).

Quitti November 23rd, 2009 02:33 PM

Re: Fracture - LA Game, We're full - pre-game hassle.

vfb linked it already, but here.

Squirreloid, good thinking, but Agartha does not have national recruitable amphibians. Summonable undead though. And I'm betting ermor has it's hands full on the surface ;) Got any better ideas? I'll look around a bit myself when I have time, hands full on other stuff atm.

See edit to post above. I decided to go poke around llamaserver's map list.

It would be nice if llamaserver ordered by province count...

Trumanator November 23rd, 2009 02:48 PM

Re: Fracture - LA Game, We're full - pre-game hassle.

Yeah, I don't really see agartha being a major UW competitor.

RE: maps, I'd just like to say that I find Alexander a little hard on the eyes. GotG is good though, as is AoM.

Quitti November 23rd, 2009 02:59 PM

Re: Fracture - LA Game, We're full - pre-game hassle.

AoM Orc looks interesting, and 32 water provinces would do the trick. I did a version of Glory of Gods which is modded so that no-one can start in a province that has less than three neighbors, but it still has 47 water provinces which is a tad high. Multilayer map also has 64 water provs which is way too much. World of Symmetry has certain bad qualities (preset starting positions iirc, room for two water nations, and it has some mapwide acces portals at least from when I last played it). Alexander has preset positions for everyone but Ermor and R'lyeh, but otherwise it'd be good.

So, basically in my eyes it'd be a competition between Glory of Gods with the starting points modded and AoM Orcs.

Squirrelloid November 23rd, 2009 03:04 PM

Re: Fracture - LA Game, We're full - pre-game hassle.

The Glory of Gods water provinces are broken up pretty well - i imagine some of those will stay indie for quite some time.

Quitti November 23rd, 2009 03:09 PM

Re: Fracture - LA Game, We're full - pre-game hassle.

Well, the seas are ordered to two parts, 13 provs for the smaller and rest for the bigger if I remember correctly. R'lyeh would want to start in the bigger one, otherwise it'd be kind of.. dead. Sooner than you can say "hey we have an underwater insanity spreading neighbor! Let's take care of him!". And the map has some imbalance with having few farmlands in a clump while others need to survive almost solely on waste/mountain lands. It's not an awful map still though ;)

Louppatient November 23rd, 2009 03:17 PM

Re: Fracture - LA Game, We're full - pre-game hassle.

There's Spring rain (321 land + 29 sea), there is even a version with starts for each LA nations ...
And PlanetRorshach (335 + 40).

Maybe PlanetTorshach is the most balanced of all, but it's a little big (a little more than 16 provinces per land nations) ...

Squirrelloid November 23rd, 2009 03:41 PM

Re: Fracture - LA Game, We're full - pre-game hassle.

350+ provinces is way too big. We want the game to actually end sometime.

Louppatient November 23rd, 2009 03:50 PM

Re: Fracture - LA Game, We're full - pre-game hassle.

Thinking of it, how will be decided victory ?
If it's the last nation alive, the game will be long, no matter if the map has 250 provinces or 350 ...

(Glory of the Gods is fine with me, too)

Quitti November 23rd, 2009 05:43 PM

Re: Fracture - LA Game, We're full - pre-game hassle.

Yes, last man standing, or also known as "when someone has grown in power enough for everyone else to declare him/her/it a winner". I will update this into the main post.

Squirrelloid November 23rd, 2009 06:52 PM

Re: Fracture - LA Game, We're full - pre-game hassle.

Please Quitti, make it something like 'hold 7 capitols for 3 turns'. Last man standing just leads to games that go on *forever*.

vfb November 23rd, 2009 07:09 PM

Re: Fracture - LA Game, We're full - pre-game hassle.

Well, being one of the nations that actually does have amphibious troops, I don't have any objections to Glory of the Gods.
