Medallion of Vengeance
Medallion of Vengeance - how effective is it? What area of damage, what actual damage?
|
Re: Medallion of Vengeance
Not very. I think it's AoE 15 (about 4 squares in diameter), and damage is 10 AP or so, which is enough to damage human troops but not enough to kill more than one or two. Add some Flame Corpses to a battle replay using Shift+'U' to see a similar effect.

Re: Medallion of Vengeance
Whenever I'm unsure of a strategy I'd like to do...I setup a quick 1v1 (both human) game on hotseat. Then you can test anything. (I'm sure there's an easier way for people who know code/editing of the game, but I don't ..so..)

Re: Medallion of Vengeance
1vs1 works fine to do tests. You can also add items and commanders in the .map (add 2 lines: #commander 333 #add_item "medallion of vengeance") but the drawback of this method is you won't realise the actual cost of the items (spending mage turns etc.).
I once played a battle where I had setup several black lords with medallions of vengeance to attack a lot of Ermor chaff. The explosions were quite efficient. Longdead horsemen, regular longdead, skeletons, etc. burnt quite well. |
Re: Medallion of Vengeance
They work well with Black Harpies too :)

Re: Medallion of Vengeance
Anything flying and can attack rear works well with em. Gives you a chance to take out their mages and all in the back rows.

Re: Medallion of Vengeance
I have used MoV with LA ulms vampire counts. There is good synergy since you can forge them with your forge bonus mages, and will have a lot of immortal flying counts and labs spread around for blood hunting anyway.
I also used them with EA agarthas troglodyte lords. The synergy there is that troglodyte lords will trample right into the midst of the enemy troops before blowing up, maximizing the relative effect of the explosion. I still think it is one of the least cost effective ways to kill stuff, and rarely worth it. The advantage that makes it useful in rare cases is that you can load up a bunch of them in peacetime to have as a last resort at crucial moments. I don't think it is possible to make them worthwhile more generally speaking. It might be a good idea to increase the power of the blast in next CBM if possible. |
Re: Medallion of Vengeance
I highly recommend the Debug Mod for testing. It's hopelessly unbalanced but it's just for testing. You can summon an all 9's mage and cast 1 pearl wish to summon anything and test.

Re: Medallion of Vengeance
It's not possible to change the blast released by MoV via mod commands, sadly.
My opinion is that it's basically never worth using, except in some niche and bizarre situations. |
Re: Medallion of Vengeance
What happens if you put a medallion of vengeance on a CBM Phoenix. Is there a double boom everytime the phoenix dies?
|
Re: Medallion of Vengeance
It would just be the first time, I think the medallion would be destroyed before respawn.

Re: Medallion of Vengeance
Raising dead here, but I was wondering whether death blessed unit blowing up will get the +x% affliction bonus? If so and you happen to have a D9 bless as part of your core strat, this might be a niche supplement with a vampire or something, although whether you want to waste another 5 astral on shroud is questionable...
Also would 2 medallion on a single unit make it blow up twice when it dies? Incidentally this would also answer whether death bless carries over to item spells like fireball wands and the like if used by a blessed unit. |
Re: Medallion of Vengeance
Okay probably everyone knows already, but just in case:
Tested, two medallions of vengeance = 2 explosions on death. Careful that the area it bombs is random, roughly in a square with you in the center with slight deformations. |
Re: Medallion of Vengeance
now, you know...
some creatures have *4* misc slots... I *really* wonder what would happen if there were 3 medallions and an elixir.... |
