Doom Horror spin cycle
Has anyone had a god so horror marked that they could never get them back from a God call? (every call back resulting in a Horror attack for which the God is poorly equipped and wrongly scripted to deal with). Anyone finally get out of the cycle of doom horrors?

Re: Doom Horror spin cycle
One of my first SP game saw my blue dragon get horror marked, by some lowly indeps. It was a discovery ! How pleasing to see your mighty dragon smashed by some lizard shamans !
Truly I mostly remember reading on the forums there was nothing to do to cure it. :( Bad Day for the dragon... |
Re: Doom Horror spin cycle
doesn't being horror market only mean that horrors will attack it more often when sent by call/send horror spells? didn't think/know that it also spawns horrors automatically(well randomly)...

Re: Doom Horror spin cycle
Yeah, basically that's what's going to happen if you get your pretender heavily horror marked. It sucks, but that's the price you pay.

Re: Doom Horror spin cycle
Which is why Horror Mark spam is an effective counter to a rush with a SC pretender. It's not likely to win any battles or kill him quickly, but your enemy may back off attacking you for fear of having his pretender completely destroyed.

Re: Doom Horror spin cycle
sounds hilarious

Re: Doom Horror spin cycle
Yes, once they get that badly horror marked, it's an endless cycle of calling them back, only for them to be immediately killed again by a doom horror. It just becomes pointless to call them back... they are done.

Re: Doom Horror spin cycle
That depends. I was in a SP test game when my god was heavily horror marked, summoned him back, and just killed the horror. Admittedly I had Gift Of Health up, had boosted it significantly, and was throwing around a Wyrm in the first place, but if you can take down the Doom Horror then you win. And that guy took down a whole bunch once I finally got him built up completely with the items I wanted and started wishing for Doom Horrors for kicks and giggles against the AI. But if you can't beat any of the Doom Horrors, you have a dead pretender.

Re: Doom Horror spin cycle
On the subject of Horrors: how much experience does a SC or Predenter gets by killing an Horror or Doom Horror? there is some significant bonus or you just get the same as if you killed a militia unit?
|
Re: Doom Horror spin cycle
I think you get 3per hit, 1per turn, and 1per being in combat, no matter what happens. It might be 2 for being in combat.

Re: Doom Horror spin cycle
On the few loosely related notes:
1. What happens when you wish for a doom horror? Does it join you, attack a caster, attack somebody randomly/whoever is most horrormarked, a random between joining and attacking? 2. If a specific doom horror is killed, is he gone for good or back in shape next turn? And, can the same doom horror attack several times at different places in one turn? (providing there are 5+ severely horrormarked pretenders all triggering a doom horror attack in a turn). 3. While we are on that, what happens when a pretender is dead (other than the obvious loss of a powerful unit)? Dominion plummets? Bless weakened or not working at all? Anything else? |
Re: Doom Horror spin cycle
1)I read in the thread that it sticks around for a turn or so. I assume you can use it for that turn. It may have mentioned it attacking your own commanders, but I don't recall that clearly, as the nerf on it with just having it one turn is pretty severe.
2)I -assume- each doom horror can only make one attack/turn. So that's three, the others might get a regular horror, but I don't know. 3)Pretenders generate 2 temple checks and get 1 sure passed temple check/turn, except mictlan, whose pretender appears to only get the 1 passed check/turn, which seems to be able to spread (also, it looks like Mictlan's capital auto-check can spread... still not much spread... the candles still go up though, so their dominion has its positives). Bless is set a pretender design and does not change. I've had 40 commanders with a soul contract on them (slight horror marked), and still only gotten a horror attack every 5 turns or so. |
Re: Doom Horror spin cycle
1. IIRC, there's about a 50% chance it joins you. Otherwise, it probably just pops up in the province acting all cranky.
2. Like other uniques, they come back just fine if the RNG calls for them. I don't know about the possibility for multiple attacks in the same turn. 3. There's no loss of dominion, beyond not getting the pretender's domspread while he's away. The bless stays around just fine. The only penalty is that when the pretender's called back he loses one point in all magic paths, and he'll most likely have a couple of afflictions. |

Re: Doom Horror spin cycle
You need a very, very tought god to resist all of those if you're severely horror marked. Good luck Jim.

Re: Doom Horror spin cycle
I have a question to tag on about horror-marking:
If you horror-mark a regular, non-commander unit and a horror later attacks, what form does this attack take? Is it similar to as to the "send horror" spell? If that horror-marked unit is inside a fort, does the whole garrison fight the attacking horror? thanks in advance for your replies, |
Re: Doom Horror spin cycle
If you're horror marked and it attracts a horror, the combat comes as an assassination attempt.

In the Ulmish civil war I got to fight every single horror and demon prince. Very cool.

Re: Doom Horror spin cycle
If you want to hear someone howl send a lousy astral mage to the death match scripted to horror mark...
I still get a rant out of one of my buddies months later... He sent a sc pretender... :haha: |

Then He blundered into a Dome of Corruption...
Great fun... Possibly the best of the best spoiler spells... Hehe... |

I'd never send my pretender god in the arena (risk/reward just not worth it in my opinion) but I'd still be pissed if that happened to me :) |

He's still hot about that... (And that game ended awhile ago...) I'll bet he'll never send a pretender to the arena again... |
