Monsters becoming commanders

What spell turns monsters into commanders?
I saw a Tarrasque that was a commander.

One of the coolest spells in the book. I once use GoR (Gift of Reason) on a Behemoth just for fun. I gave him some items but squandered him with poor scripting.

Tangent question.. Has anyone tried GoR on the 4 armed foul spawn? Does he transform with 4 arm slots? Too lazy to check Edi's DB tonight.

The ettin has 3 arms, not four. You can give him 2 shields and an... axe of hate! He should kill SCs fine like that.

Besides the ettin w/3 arms, there is also a 4 armed crossbreed (unit 530.) However, each arm ends in a claw, so it can't equip weapons/shields, and thus it's rather a poor choice for GoR consequently.

There's also the Grotesque you can get, which has an arm, a stinger, and a claw, and fire breath, and comes with resistances (but is cold blooded, and unfortunately equipping it will take away the fire breath, since it's not bonus.)

You mean the Grotesque? Yes, I've GoRed him. Too bad he loses his natural weapons (including flame breath) if you equip any weapon or shield for him :(

There are a couple of decent GoR units that you could be more useful if you could script them better, such as chimera, but really, the best GoR target seems to be the ettin, has full slots, I think, plus another arm... and decent stats besides.

Don't forget Tarts and wished units! :D Also, there are a few national summons that aren't bad targets, like Davanas.

I wish they were.

It's also situational... I think I had some success with the gift of kurgi on an abomination. Situational, then, as in, if you have a the gift of kurgi, what do you put it on?

One of the more successfull GoR tests I've had was as LA Pythium, the summonable immortal Hydra. I GoRed her and made the prophet. Sure, just misc-slots (I gave her a flying carpet and an anti-magic amulet), but she is a *major* pain to kill! You want to keep her in friendly dominion anyway (as she is immortal), and when a prophet it means she'll have a ton of health (and yes, she regenerates one head worth of health each round, no matter how much health each head has) and very good MR (which you can further boost with the anti-magic amulet). And if she happens to croak, so what? She is back in action next turn :) With all those heads she has (and Holy Avenger), she will eventually kill anything (not to mention the poison, although any sensible being going against her will be poison immune).

Do you mean Why-not-try-a-seeking-arrow-on-me the Tarrasque commander? (that's its name) I think I overdid it a bit with those seeking arrows.

There was a bug that interchanged a commander with an ordinary unit. I remember Evilhomer getting it having a lobo guard commander with H1S1 instead of a cultist.

Perhaps it has been fixed.

It was not in a recent game (Operation Anchorage). My opponent got several Abysia Infantry with F1H1.

Units can become commanders and get [seemingly] random magic paths if there is a rollback and someone uses wrong .2h file. IDs get mixed up and people end up with weird units [you can see 4 air queens etc].

Re: Monsters becoming commanders

Does anyone have a list of what magic paths (if any) units get by being GoRed?

There's obviously Tarts, but are there any units not normally commanders that get magic paths?

Check Edi's db. It contains all knowledge.
