Mod ideas that you weren't going to use anyway

This thread is for those who have brilliant (or not so brilliant, like mine) nation, scenario or other modding ideas, but no time / productivity slider / capabilities to make anything out of them.

If anyone wants to use these ideas, ask away. (If I don't answer: yes, please do whatever you want with my ideas.)

Dragon Monks - Age of Betrayal

The times when dragons and their monks were allied have ended. Too many sheep and shepherds were eaten by hungry dragons and humans rose to rebel. Travelling knights, monks and local villagers gathered to fight against dragons' tyranny. The Dragon Fortress was encircled, but rising of the new pretender stopped the war. For now.

Units:
- Travelling knights with large weapons and few horses. Low resource and high gold cost to represent that they are travellers.
- Hardy monks with good morale, good magic resistance, Fire, cold and poison resistance (25%), less supply usage. Simple weapons (spears, staffs, clubs, axes, slings etc) and leather armour at the best.
- Villagers with low morale and bad weapons.
- Capital only dragons with magical unit. Can only be commanded by specific monk units.
- Monk elementalists (fire, water, earth, air) and blood mages hiding at the mountains make for most of the mages.
- PD consists of villagers and monks.

Dragon Monks - Age of Hunt

Dragon Fortress has been silent for centuries, but new threat of demons has awakened old monk monasteries. Little do the monks know that their blood dabbling allies are behind many of the incursions.

Units:
- Monks have obtained both weapons, armour and training during the centuries. Good morale, good magic resistance, Fire, cold and poison resistance (33%), less supply usage, two handed weapons specialised in killing larger monsters, ring and scale mail armours.
- Villagers with low morale and bad weapons.
- Monk elementalists have obtained astral magic and balance between elements is not important any more.
- Blood and death mages.
- Summonable dragons that compensate for their ancestors' wrong doing by dying in the battlefield.
- No cap-only units. PD consists of monk students and villagers.

Dragon Monks - Age of Uncounted Monasteries

The Dragon War, the Demon Hunt and the Giant Raid have taught Dragon Monks that they can only trust in themselves and that they shall taught to whole world.

Units:
- Monks have conquered suffering of life. Fire, cold and poison resistance (50%), no need for supplies.
- Monks welcomed smiths from falling Ulm and now know the secrets of Black Steel.
- The tradition of hunting monsters and mages is still strong. Assassin units with plate-mails and two handed weapons are not unusual.
- Elementalists are only magic users monks allow. Master elementalists have gained invulnerability against elements.
- No cap-only units. PD consists of monk students and frontier monks.

I may write more about Dragon Monks later or write down my other multi age nation idea. Who knows.

Re: Mod ideas that you weren't going to use anyway

Hmm. We've had a bunch of threads like this before. The thing is there isn't a shortage of ideas, there's a shortage of A) Actual work and B) People testing mods and giving feedback.

Just my opinion of course. There are apparently people here who have no ideas of their own and prefer to make other people's. Or so I am told. Haven't actually seen any evidence.

Re: Mod ideas that you weren't going to use anyway

I have ideas and would be quite willing to produce something but:
1. I am busy with school work.
2. I lack artistic talent to make unit graphics. (My last Dominions 3 mod project died early because I hated my unit graphics.)

So, if someone could make graphics for me or if I made nation that only needed recoloured graphics I could actually get something done.

Edit. Also, I am not good enough player to provide any good feedback.

Re: Mod ideas that you weren't going to use anyway

Sombre is right about shortage of people. Particularly in the feedback stage. If people wanted more mods and maps and themes etc they need to "pay" for the ones they are using with abit of feedback, suggestions, and especially thankyous.

On the other hand there is nothing wrong with laying out ideas. Ive seen a number of them done by the person who didnt start the conversation.

Another tactic is that there are people who prefer to improve on someone elses work. So doing a quicky "good enough for me" version and clearly saying you dont mind if someone else fills it out can work well also.

That will never work for mod nations unforunately. There are lots of half-made mod nations. It's the small number of highly polished ones that people actually use.

Having said that I enjoyed your ideas Baneslave. If you do make something I'd be very interested to play with it.

Re: Mod ideas that you weren't going to use anyway

Well its not like I keep a scoreboard on other projects but I fuzzily remember native americans and halflings that were improved upon. And a couple of vampire nations. Plus my own Watcher mod which was expanded in the debug mod. And my filler mod which Edi did a version on.

Its not always clear if a nation is specifically due to the fact that it got extensive discussion before hand. And rarely that a project mentions the previous project. You just have to accept that when you throw ideas out into the public property.

I do have to admit though that my list of mods to try is long. My list of mods that I have tried and liked is also long. And my list of mods I had ideas, suggestions, bug reports that I never posted is also long. I chide myself that some of the people who have stopped work on their projects might be partly my fault for not telling them I liked their work.

Also I havent done nearly enough to support mods on my server. I do support large games that want mods. Especially for "developed AIs". But I should probably start more large public games supporting projects I like.

I actually have one of those! It's a partial alpha nation. It isn't that I don't want to do the work, its that I don't know what I'm doing and concentrating on learning is nigh impossible under my current circumstances.

The attachment is a less than alpha nation that I detailed in a thread and got just one piece of feedback! Several views though, so, I thought if I could eventually look at someone elses work at make this into a working mod, I'd send it up for testing. Anyway, here my little bit of work... that took a lot of planning actually, maybe you'll be inspired... or merely get a design assist. Really, though, you can just download someone elses completed mod and use it to learn how to put stuff together!

Re: Mod ideas that you weren't going to use anyway

I really don't have any ideas for nations or such, but I have noticed some cool modding ricks that could be used. I've just never bumped into a mod where I could use them.

Modding magical items that cast spells: This would be easy. Choose a item that allows you to cast a spell (Wand of Wild Fire, Spectre of Authority, Snake Ring, Stone Sphere, etc..) and mod it into the item you want. Then just use #selectspell and alter the spell that the item uses while giving a appropiate proxy spell for the game to use (much like in custom onebattlespelling).

Spell Modding: This is where the good stuff is. There are just so many things that one could do. Like a "Cloud" spell that buffs troops, for instance. I've barely scratched the surface in CPCS.

Joke Touhou mod:

Gensokyo - Land of Disbelief

All units and commanders have:
- Air shield (10% - 95%).
- Some kind of danmaku ranged attack.
- Are women, for some reason.

Units:
- Fairy: Immortal, almost fearless cannon-fodder with single shot and weak fist attack.
- Rabbit Youkai: Poorly equipped, poorly trained and poorly paid Rabbit Youkai are bit more dangerous than fairies. They also are lucky.
- Ghost: Immortal spirit that isn't willing to rest. Etherealness gives them survivability in the battlefield, but they aren't as dangerous as most think.
- Kappa: Armed with bamboo spears and curiosity regarding mechanics, Kappa are good at both attacking and defending fortresses. Can fight equally well under water.
- Oni: Drunken oni boasts huge strength, unbreakable courage and Drunken Fist style martial art. They are gluttons and cause unrest in the province they are in.
- Wolf Tengu: Armed with various weapons, shields and chainmails, they are most well equipped warriors in Gensokyo. Their loyalty towards their friends and masters is notable.
- Moon Rabbit: Armed with spears, bows and shields, these trained soldiers can be surprisingly dangerous foe to fight against.
- Half-Phantom: Skilled with blade and armed with katana Half-Phantom are dangerous foe to fight against. Phantom side of body helps human side fight.
- Danmaku Warrior: Danmaku Warrior is human who can use her deadly skills to launch dangerous volleys of magical shots. Expert in evading incoming shots.

Commanders:
- Crow Tengu Reporter: Flying spy with camera and newspaper bag. Master of evasion.
- Nekomata Ninja: Deadly assassin who uses both curses and shurikens to defeat her foes.
- Boss Fairy: Bit larger fairy that too is immortal and gathers other fairies around her. Poor commander.
- Kappa Engineer: Kappa who is particularly good at building and inventing stuff. She can lead 40 warriors against fortresses.
- Booze-baron Oni: This Oni is quite lucky and has one way or another managed to gain almost endless supply of alcohol. Her presence in area gathers other Oni, but endless drunken parties annoy neighbours. She can lead up to 40 warriors in the quest to seek alcohol.
- Wolf Tengu Commander: Surprisingly good warrior and commander, Wolf Tengu Commander can lead up to 120 warriors in the battlefield and has patrol bonus.
- Shrine Maiden: One of few people in Gensokyo that in any way care about shrines or gods. Level 2 holy magic user.
- Bird Youkai: Naturally capable of calling darkness over battlefield. She don't command that much reason over others, but her singing is stunningly good.
- Doll Master: Being skilled crafter, Doll Master is quite capable of forging magical items. She also produces certain amount of battle ready dolls per month and commands them in battlefield.
- Human Magician: Somewhat weak magician, but quite good in research and also skilled in danmaku.
- Magician: Skilled in magic and excellent in magical research, Magician suffers from poor health induced by endless studies. Has humongous encumbrance without that much equipment.
- Kitsune: Fox Youkai that is skilled nature magic user with couple other random paths. Stealthy but somewhat expensive spy. Natural talent makes her bad in magical research.
- Lunarian: Quite capable in fields of magic, pharmacy and archery, Lunarian can command up to 40 warriors to the field.
- Vampire: Ageless Vampire is strong user of blood and death magic, but her vulnerability to sun and fire makes her somewhat cowardly. Is not undead or immortal.

Pretenders:
- Gap Youkai: The mystical Gap Youkai is said to be one of the strongest beings in Gensokyo. Can naturally open borders and lead armies to any place in world through her gaps.
- The Strongest: The Ice Fairy that dwells in the Scarlet Devil Mansion's lake is said (by herself) to be strongest in Gensokyo. Skilled water magician but fails utterly at research. Immortal like other Fairies and her presence causes other Fairies to gather.

Heroes:
- The Elegant Maid: The Perfect Maid from Scarlet Devil Mansion doesn't know any magic but she fights by throwing hundreds of knives. Can stop time and has almost perfect physical defence because of this.
- The Immortal In Bamboo Forest: Person who gained immortality by using Hourai-Elixir. Strong user of fire magic and has many stages before killed.
- Sister of the Devil: Insane Vampire that can destroy anything she sees. (In game effect: Multiple attacks with disintegration side effect)

Well, that was fun adventure. :o

Re: Mod ideas that you weren't going to use anyway

Domain of Eight Pacts - Middle Age nation without future

tl;dw version: Demons of other world came through portal and now try to achieve blessed state of balance.

Units:
- Pactless: Demon who hasn't managed to obtain pacts of blood or astral yet. Strong and enduring, but contradictions with the world cause constant pain and confusion. Thrown into battles carrying large maul.
- Pact of Line: Demon who has managed to obtain pacts of blood and astral. Has human shape and the world doesn't understand him as demon any more. Stronger and faster than normal humans. Lacks status and wields either axe, two axes or spear and shield.
- Pact of Square: Demon who has managed to obtain pacts of blood, astral, nature and death. Has human shape and world doesn't understand him as demon any more. Is ageless and has status in society. Fights with either sword and shield, or with two-handed sword. Carries some armour.
- Pact of Octagon: Demon who has managed to obtain pacts of all eight elements. Has human shape and world doesn't understand him as demon any more. Is almost immortal and is much stronger than the strongest of humans. Wages war with well crafted blade and strong armour.

Commanders:
- Pact of Death: Demon who considers aspect of death the right path and is now blessed by its effects. Way of demon has changed to way of undead. Ethereal and extremely stealthy.
- Pact of Heroism: Demon who's honour is the most important thing. World doesn't understand demon's honour. Has obtained skills of battle through extensive training and is huge compared to humans. Armed with excellent magical blade and enhanced armour. Can lead only few trusted underlings.
- Pact of Society: Demon who sees the society more important than selfish pacts with elements. World has forgave his old demon sins. A great leader who gathers lowly Pact of Lines to war.
- Pact of Sacrifice: Demon who is even more selfish than others. Has returned to ways of demon, but considers power of blood magic worth the price.
- Pact of Silence: Demon who values silence. Quiet ways don't count as way of demon and is thus forgiven. He is weak astral and death magic user.
- Pact of Knowledge: Demon who valued silence but chose knowledge in the end. Is capable astral and death magic user, but his body has weakened over years.
- Pact of Meditation: Demon who thinks that the god is most important. Is priest and forgiven. Helps Pactless gain their future and many of them gather around his presence. Brings hope to the battlefield.
- Pact of Elements: Pact of Octagon who values one element over others. Great magician of his own element but imbalance has left his demon past vulnerable to banishment.

National summons:
- Gather Beasts of Burden: Blood magician demon dabbles with the home portal and manages to gather dozen Beasts of Burden through the portal. These horrible beasts are in constant pain and easily go berserk, making them worthless in the fields. Battlefield on the other hand...
- Make Beasts of War: Blood magician demon dabbles with the home portal and manages to gather half dozen Beasts of War through the portal. He attaches some unfortunate Pactless to the beasts, plates them with armour and sends them cause destruction on the battlefield. Horrifying beasts are almost mindless and have regenerative powers.
- Pact of True Sacrifice: Demon who obtained almost true immortality with pact of this world's demons. Has huge bulging body of meat and bone, and is expert of blood magic. Has huge appetite and heals miraculously quick.
- Pact of Phoenix: Demon who gained almost true immortality through pact with the god. Is sacred. Has no less than eight forms that he burns through:
-- Pact of True Fire: Demon who obtained Pact of Phoenix and is on his first stage. He is surrounded flames of hell and is invulnerable to fires. Fights with huge axe and wears plate mail.
-- Pact of True Water: Demon who obtained Pact of Phoenix and is on his second stage. He is surrounded by cold of Netherworld and is invulnerable to cold. Has lost his axe but keeps going with scythes of living water.
-- Pact of True Air: Demon who obtained Pact of Phoenix and is on his third stage. Is surrounded by slashing winds of heaven. Any projectiles are easily diverted by raging winds. Can fly and hit his enemies with lighting and thunder.
-- Pact of True Earth: Demon who obtained Pact of Phoenix and is on his fourth stage. Stone and earth gathers around body protecting it from harm. Tremendous strength and almost total blindness leads him to trampling his foes.
-- Pact of True Nature: Demon who obtained Pact of Phoenix and is on his fifth stage. Body of earth and plate mail fall apart but deadly poisons cover his new grown fangs and scything arms.
-- Pact of True Death: Demon who obtained Pact of Phoenix and is on his sixth stage. Death overcomes nature and connection to the death itself is made. Unfortunate Pact of Phoenix starts screaming like death itself and crows wings bone that flail wildly around.
-- Pact of True Astral: Demon who obtained Pact of Phoenix and is on his seventh stage. Body finally dies but soul in its etherealness continues fighting. Anyone touching the ethereal body could lose his sanity, mind or soul.
-- Pact of True Blood: The old demon body of unfortunate demon returns and Pact of Phoenix loses last bits of sanity. Body grows to huge proportions and berserks out of control. Stage cannot be reversed and Pact of Phoenix surely dies.

Hmm, brain storming Dominions 3 nations is surprisingly fun.
