Favourite Wishes
I've been thinking about Wish.
It appears to be a great spell. So great, in fact, that no matter what I do, I feel that I'm wasting it. Feeling a bit noob-ish. What do you consider good/great things to wish for? It is, after all, an extremely expensive spell. |
Re: Favourite Wishes
A list of all keyword combinations for absolutely everything you can possible wish for is at http://dom3.servegame.com/wiki/Wish
Usually, people wish for unique items (e.g. The Chalice) or units, or gems. |
Re: Favourite Wishes
Wish is THE final word in filling in for whatever you need. It's expensive, but will get you ANYTHING to some degree. A wish is well-used if it's getting you something you couldn't get otherwise. A true supercombatant when you have no death or national ones, for example. Wishing for gems is smart so long as your need isn't restricted to a few different types (if all the gems you can use are astral, death, and nature, then it's a waste to wish for gems since you get a better rate of exchange on the gems you can use just by alchemizing the 100 pearls in the first place).
As Ich says, wishing for an artifact is great since that's frequently the only way open to you to obtain the artifact. Many of the choices really are vain, and should not be used, even when they're beneficial. Wishing for strength, for the most part, is a waste. The mage who can get to S9 is probably not SC material, so all the stat boosts (except maybe the extra hp) are pretty useless. |
Re: Favourite Wishes
Seraph (a national summon for Marignon, Pythium, etc) is my most common wish.
|
Re: Favourite Wishes
Wishing for gems is never a waste, because if you alchemize all the gems you receive back to astral then you end up with 100 gems. Any you do not turn back to astral gems, you have essentially received at a 2:1 ratio from the astral gems through the wish.

Re: Favourite Wishes
I've gotta admit, more than 50% of my wishes have been Armageddon.

I've heard from a lot of vets that usually the general order of best wishes is: gems, gems, chalice or gatestone, slaves, seraph.

Re: Favourite Wishes
On the other hand, if you've built your pretender to be able to cast wish, it's likely because you don't expect to have access to Wish without him. Therefore, you'll want to keep him in a lab wishing, not off killing armies. He can Wish up people for that.
On the gripping hand, he's also, by definition, capable of Teleport and Mass Enslave, which may be worth doing and fragile chassis may benefit from the extra hp at least. |
Re: Favourite Wishes
The extra 50 HP are nice against assassination attempts of course. As for wishing critters into being, I have always had a soft spot for the Wyrm Chassis. Sure, less powerful than the best Hydra, and nothing on a Chayot or Seraph, but it can appear to opponents who are having technical difficulties scouting that you have your god off somewhere. A diversion, and one the chassis is actually good enough to possibly survive.

Re: Favourite Wishes
Gems is pretty much the best wish now, provided that you have access to whatever SC needs you have. Usually this is tartarian gate. Chalice is very good if you don't have Gift of Health casted, and if you have the gem income (happened often in the clam era) to cast more wishes, dimensional rod is a good enough wish to get another s9 caster). Other notable items you might want but are probably not worth the wish are the Sceptre of Dark Regency and Mage Bane.
From units, Mandehas, Seraphs, Chayots and some pretender chassis' are good. Destroyer of worlds springs to mind as one possible candidate, but won't beat mandeha in usability most probably. |
Re: Favourite Wishes
I am amused by the possibilities of Wishing up another version of your pretender as a distraction. Probably not worth it, but could be fun.
I probably wouldn't wish for the Chalice until I had a good stack of Tartarians waiting to be un-feebleminded. You're not likely to keep it too long, so you want to get the most use out of it. |
Re: Favourite Wishes
I also wished to drown some unique SCs, very fun and nasty. Usually it also costs their old master serveal unqiue artifacts.

Re: Favourite Wishes
I'm not a fan of the Seraph. Really big investment (GOR + equipment on top of the wish) makes it very economical to teleport in a bunch of S3+ guys to magic duel in very late game. I prefer Rudra (4 arms D/F/A for cloud trapeze + soul vortex + phoenix pyre. Storm flyer to) or Mendeha (SC with auto darkness - situational but incredibly nasty when you can leverage it). A risen oracle is pretty nasty immortal chasis (one 30 gem empower in D + some D&E gems = summon e-power, invulnerablitly + soul vortex...just toss in whatever weapon seems appropriate)

Re: Favourite Wishes
Seraph have been mentioned a lot of times, but shouldn't a Chayot be superior? Or is there something painfully obvious on the Wiki that I am missing?
|
Re: Favourite Wishes
Could have something to do with the names.
Seraph sounds like a fiery overpowered angel. Chayot sounds like a fiery overpowered chili. Or maybe most people have got into the habit of using seraphs before chayots were implemented. Well, seraphs can phoenix pyre which means if they are killed they just take 50 fatigue. Might not be that much worse than cheating death 3 times with another form. Otoh charging into the fray with such a high fatigue can mean your next death is already waiting. And the chayot can do everything the seraph can , and only their first two forms have worse stats. So yeah, I'd use the chayot personally. |
Re: Favourite Wishes
There are advantages to having 3 paths available at once.
Chayot also have less hp and I've had them retreat after one good hit due to the 75% rule. On the other hand, they can't be Magic Dueled to death. |

Re: Favourite Wishes
Just reading through the Wiki article, you can summon units, does this extend to national heros? I'd probably get one of the more robust ones,
how bout summoning a pretender by typing its name? Unlikely but two pretenders would be a boost :) |
Re: Favourite Wishes
You can summon heros. one of the more common ones is to summon the S5 ryleh hero to get another wish caster.
you can summon a certain pretender chassis like "destroyer of worlds", but not like you opponents specific pretender |

Re: Favourite Wishes
There may be 6 different Grigoris, but you only get 1 of them when you wish for him.
|
Re: Favourite Wishes
what jeff isn't telling you, is that when you wish for a name, you get the lowest grigori.
grigori's were specifically set up so thatyou will not be happy with your result. |

Re: Favourite Wishes
If I wanted to wish for the S5 Ryleh Hero/Commander Do I do it by name, by nation, how?
Alot of wishes are straight forward....but some are somewhat murky in nature. I am interested in this Ryleh commander just for the sake of trying to see how to do it. |
Re: Favourite Wishes
i believe it has to be by name. look in edi's DB for it
|
Re: Favourite Wishes
Specifically, the "name" is the unit type name, not the actual name of the unit. So, for example, you'd wish for "Great Hag" instead of "Angerboda". In the case of R'lyeh's hero, use the unit type name "Stargazer".
Stargazer has the highest astral at 5, and also comes with 2W and 2H, but other decent high-astral wishable units (each with astral 4) that have some different magic diversity options include: Aboleth - 4S, 4W, only 2 misc slots though (note: gives the R'lyeh hero unit, not a regular Aboleth) Blinded - 4S, 2E, 2N, 2H (has old age, so give him a thistle mace right away) Chayot - 1 form has 4S, other forms have 4F, 4E, and 4A, all forms have 4H Seraph - 4S, 4F, 4A, 4H Son of Kokabel - 4S, 3B, 1H (devours pop) |
Re: Favourite Wishes
Wait a minute I though people you wished for turned up as units instead of commanders?that's what always happened for me
