Where did my weapon go?

[Newb-ish]
  • My God started life with a single-handed sword.
  • At one point, he took on a double-handed forged sword.
  • At a later point, I decided I'd rather have a shield on him. Gave the double-handed to someone else, took the shield.
  • Went into battle... with just a fist for weapon (plus shield) :hurt:

Now, I thought (and assumed, till I noticed otherwise in battle) I had always seen that commanders' original weapons/shields "re-appeared" if the forged item they got replaced by was later removed? Where did this guy's original sword go to?

Re: Where did my weapon go?

Original weapons do come back, yes. They can become unavailable temporarily, for example when a commander is given a different item (as in your case), or when the commander loses an arm. But if the only thing you did to your commander was to give him a shield, then taking away the shield should restore the sword.

But it does sound strange that a single-handed sword would be replaced in such a way as to leave an empty fist. What kind of unit was your god? What kind of sword was the sword?

Re: Where did my weapon go?

care to tell us which pretender chassis you chose? the 2 most likely options I can think of without further information are:
1. the sword was 2 handed instead of 1 handed
2. your pretender lost an arm due to affliction

anything else and it's most likely a bug, but the more likely option is 1 of the above.

OK, so I think you guys are saying my original sword must have been two-handed... Let me go look...

OK, I just re-loaded (had finished & won game, was practicing against Jotun).

I tried dropping the shield. I got a sword back! It was a "No-Dashi", I was on a samurai race god.

So I look at the info/stats by right-clciking. It doesn't say anywhere that it's a two-handed? Now that I look I see length=3, was I supposed to know from that?

Now that I come to think of it.... Maybe Samurai guys tend to use two hands in movies... If anyone says I was dumb for not thinking about it, i'll be

Re: Where did my weapon go?

Swords longer than 2 do tend to be two-handed, yes. But maybe a god is big enough to carry a very large sword in one hand. It seems that this god uses two hands, but there are cases where such large weapons are seemingly used in one hand. I guess you can't really tell what will or won't get replaced until you try it.

I'm playing as Atlantis now, and I just tried giving a shield to a size-3 shambler whose hands are normally occupied by a glaive and a shield. Glaives are usually two-handed, but this unit's picture clearly shows it holding the glaive in one hand and a shield in the other. But when I put on the new shield (a weightless shield, even!), the shambler dropped both its glaive and its old shield, and switched to the fist weapon. So the game isn't even completely consistent in this regard.

Thanks to all, at least the behaviour makes sense, I had thought I was mistaken about the original weapon even returning!

With a forged weapon, the right-click tells you how many handed. But it seems that is not on the info when it's an "in-built".

No-Dashi is a Japanese greatsword. The DB lists all the weapons and how many hands are required and that one is two-handed.

Re: Where did my weapon go?

I remember there are cases where 1 handed default weapons gets replaced with fist when you put a shield on him.

hmmm... not a good example (can't think of any other on the spot), I think starspawn's life drain attack turns into a fist when you stick a shield on it. Life drain is 1 handed and not a bonus attack per Edi's DB, so basically a 1 handed weapon.

I'm sure it is! When you say "The DB", what exactly are you referring to, please? (I was talking about the in-game info, which appears never to tell you handedness for in-builts, but does for forgeds.)

He refers to the Dom3 DataBase file, to which there is a link in Edi's signature.

The link to the thread about the DB is:

Indeed. Thank you for clarifying.

*waves cane*

These youngsters are all the same! Never read the FAQ they do, never! *mumble-grumble*

;)

I originally put a lot of stuff into the FAQ, including a brief explanation of and links to the Dom3 DB and I kind of expect people to have read it, but I suppose it's easy to miss or disregard. I know I don't always read FAQs myself, since rather too often they tend to cover all too obvious things, though I'd like to think the stuff in the Dom3 FAQ is non-obvious, even if they are common.

For the record, and in the same friendly spirit as the previous post :), I am far from being a youngster (I wish...) Consequently, I have read the FAQ. I'm afraid that does not mean that I will recall what "The DB" refers to. But I do now, thanks.

No harm done. :)

Just wanted to explain the thoughts behind the original brief post. And I have been around since forever, so I also tend to take things for granted sometimes, then go *facepalm* when I realize that I was being too vague.
