Enemy Dominion
Does positive enemy dominion help you? (in vanilla and/or CBM)
I read some posts that suggested only Growth (if they have it) would affect you when an enemy dom spreads to your lands (the other positive effects would not). But, in both vanilla and CBM, I see the positive icons for luck, order, etc in the gui! Can someone confirm what happens when an enemy dom spreads into your lands? Thanks in advance. |
Re: Enemy Dominion
You don't get any positive effects from enemy dominion so if the scales of someone is 0rder 3 you don't get anything out of it but if you used Turmoil 3 and the enemy dominion takes over your dominion then you will get neutral order scale. I think only the population increase effect from growth works. A good idea (only temporal though) is to get only 1 candle on your province if it has been previously affected by enemy dominion in that case you will benefit from all the effects still left on that(until they adjust to your scales configuration). I think negative effects are in effect all the time but I am not really sure about that one.

Re: Enemy Dominion
Negative scales work no mater the owner of the scales. But of positive enemy scales, only growth works. And then only the pop growth, not the money. Unclear weather you get extra supplies.
There is a trick you can use though if you have priests. Enemy scales will count as your scales if you have your dominion in the province. So if your dominion takes over a province with great scales from enemy dominion and you normally have bad scales, then those great scales will last for a while and you will benefit from them until your real scales manifest. If you are bored you can trigger this effect by preaching in contested provinces. Allow the enemy dominion to improve the scales and when the are maxed you preach until its your dominion again. The good scales last for a while and you can thus benefit from them. If you have neutral scales the bonus scales gained this way will decay much slower. |
Re: Enemy Dominion
in my own experience, I've used enemy luck scales to boost my cross breedings

Re: Enemy Dominion
It's a little more complicated than that, I think.
Scales have some effects whoever owns them. The in-battle effects of heat/cold, magic/drain are always in effect. Enemy luck supposedly works as misfortune for generating events. I'd assume spells that have different effects based on scales work on the actual scale, with no concern for whose dominion. |

Re: Enemy Dominion
did you have 1 white candle of your dominion in that province or was it only black candles in it? I myself often get misfortune 2 and as one of my neighbours in a recent game had luck 3 I got 2 times 1500 gold event in 4 turns or so. But I think that is because of neutral luck.

It could be a bug, though occuring 3 times its a bit strange.

Re: Enemy Dominion
I really think that luck is universal. I have had great success in my crossbreeding experiments in enemy dominions

Re: Enemy Dominion
Another little exploit: If you kill someone with great scales, and don't spread your own dominion there, you'll get all the benefit of those scales. I'm doing this right now in the Wet ham game, I'm LA R'lyeh and killed MA Oceania so I get great income from his maxed out scales by not spreading my dominion there.

Re: Enemy Dominion
You dont actually get the effects of his good scales without having your own dominion present. At best you get the effects of neutral scales. Though because you are LA R'lyeh, even neutral scales could seem amazing in comparison to your native scales.

Re: Enemy Dominion
Or do you get benefits from scales in neutral dominion?
Which is what you'd have after he dies. |
Re: Enemy Dominion
I think some of us are confused because in the gui we see the positive dominion. We can even click on the little icons and the gui tells us we are getting the bonus from the scales.
I just wish it was more clear... |

Re: Enemy Dominion
Interestingly enough there does not seem to be any events that are triggered by sloth/production. At least not that I can find. And most of the common indie attacks requires misfortune to trigger at all.
Barbarians, tritons, shamblers(?) = misfortune 1. Knights = misfortune 2. Huge Barbarian attack = Misfortune 3. There are other kinds of indy attacks that dont require misfortune, but all of them are marked as uncommon. Whatever that means. |

Re: Enemy Dominion
Isn't the free castle event also triggered by production ?
One thing I do know is hot scales burn your labs down a lot so having a lucky, hot neighbour is bad news if you let his dominion into your research pods. In one test game I ran under hot 3 / misf 2 scales my capital's lab burned twice in the first 5 turns. I was ecstatic. |
