"Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

I came up with this idea simply because I want to play LA R'yleh, but I do not have time to commit full time to a game. However, I can handle a game with a reduced time commitment.

Host: llamaserver

Duration: I propose something like 24 hours for first 10 turns, 72 hours until turn 30, 1 turn per week after that.

I would like to limit the game to 6 players, with a map of only 10-12 provinces per player.

I have not worked out all of the settings, but I am considering easy research, stronger indies (9?), somewhat increased gem frequency. I am definitely open to suggestions.

Essentially, to accommodate the longer time for turns, I would like to speed things up to keep the game from dragging out.

CBM 1.6 since, if I understand correctly, it balances things a little better for a blitz-type game. Fixed version available here.

Diplomacy - not enforced. Be as honest or as dishonest as you want with regards to NAPs or similar agreements. Trade agreements are inviolable, however.

Post if you are interested.

Nations are first come, first served. I am taking R'yleh.

Make any suggestions for settings that you think would make this work better.
Nations
wonderloss - R'yleh
Kamamura - Jomon
Louist - Arco
Olm - Man
Admiral_Aorta - Mictlan
tratorix - Ulm

I am interested, I am taking Jomon.

Louist June 29th, 2011 04:35 PM

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

I'm interested, as either Arco for vanilla, or Caelum for CBM.

Olm June 29th, 2011 05:40 PM

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

I am a total noob for MP, but if you want me I would try Man.

wonderloss June 29th, 2011 11:28 PM

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

Though not explicitly a newbie game, newbies are definitely welcome. I believe myself, Kamamura, and Louis are all on the green side.

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

I'm about dead in another game, so I'll hop in here as Mictlan. Any thoughts on which map to use?

tratorix June 30th, 2011 12:40 AM

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

I'll join as Ulm.

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

Alright. Looks like we are full.
I have not looked at maps yet. Feel free to make recommendations, otherwise I will look around when I get time today. Keep it small, and it needs water.

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

Ossya, on llamaserver's map and mod browser, looks like it might be a good choice. It is the right size, and the sea is not right in the middle of everything. There are not a whole lot of maps of the appropriate size, so the other option would probably be to try to get a random map that looks good.

tratorix June 30th, 2011 02:51 PM

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

Map looks good, though it will force you to compete on land fairly quickly. But if you're ok with it it should be fine. I'd recommend setting indies around 7, 9 seems a bit too high.

Louist June 30th, 2011 04:15 PM

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

Ossya looks fine to me.

Admiral_Aorta June 30th, 2011 05:49 PM

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

That map looks fine, though it might be a good idea to go through it and check the start positions are all fair.

wonderloss July 1st, 2011 10:42 AM

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

Indies 7 sounds good.

That is a good point about checking for fair starts. Of course, fixed starts means you can figure out where all the capitals are, even if you do not know who is located at which one.

I think I will play with the map generator this weekend and see if I can come up with something.

I have some vacation plans coming up. I am taking two days next week,July 5 and 6, but I think I can work around those since it does not take long to take a turn this early. I also have a few days the following week. I will have to see what happens then.

Here is a proposed random map. Let me know if there are any objections.

Looks alright, though that northern chokepoint is a bit daunting. If no one else objects, though, I'm all for it.

tratorix July 2nd, 2011 12:18 AM

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

I like chokepoints, makes deciding where to begin my invasion much simpler. :tough:

Looks good to me.

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

That looks ok, though it's not as nice looking as the other one.

wonderloss July 2nd, 2011 09:09 AM

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

You cannot get the same pretty graphics with the random generator that you can get by doing them by hand.

wonderloss July 2nd, 2011 01:55 PM

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

Game is up here. Let's get those pretenders in.

wonderloss July 2nd, 2011 02:44 PM

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

Here are the settings:
Map: Lazy Days
Mods: Conceptual Balance 1.6 Complete
Late Age
Independent strength 7
Score graphs off
Hall of fame size 15
Magic site frequency 40
Renaming on
All other settings on default

Make sure you have CBM 1.6 enabled before making your pretender, and make sure you have llamas' post-patch update.

Louist July 2nd, 2011 03:10 PM

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

Anyone mind if I play Arco? I think I may actually hate Caelum.

Admiral_Aorta July 2nd, 2011 05:46 PM

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

I don't mind you playing arco, though I got elephant rushed in my last game. I've sent Mictlan's pretender in.

Louist July 2nd, 2011 07:46 PM

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

To be fair, both nations have elephants :)

Olm July 3rd, 2011 10:29 AM

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

What is the "post-patch update"?
I couldn't find anything about it.

wonderloss July 3rd, 2011 11:08 AM

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

It refers to the post-patch update of CBM and other mods. The link is found in the original post. Mods were messed up by the patch, and llama made a script to fix them. If you downloaded CBM from that link, you are fine.

O.K.
Now my pretender is up and waiting.....

My pretenders in, just waiting on Jomon now.

Waiting for Jomon.

I sent a PM to Kamamura yesterday.
How long do we wait?

Well, llamaserver seems to be frozen up atm so he could have sent it and its just not showing up.

Well, it was when I posted that. :p I guess it's wonderloss' decision on how long we wait.

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

He is in another game with me, and is pretty reliable, so I am not sure what is up here. If he does not respond by this evening, I will figure something out.

wonderloss July 7th, 2011 10:44 PM

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

We exchanged PMs, he will have it in soon.

Kamamura July 8th, 2011 05:10 AM

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

Hello, I am sorry for the delay, I am playing another game and completely forgot to watch this. I am submitting my pretender tomorrow at the latest, probably, today (CET time zone).

Kamamura July 8th, 2011 05:31 AM

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

Why are we playing with CBM1.6 when CBM1.84 is the latest version?

Kamamura July 8th, 2011 07:38 AM

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

Okay, my pretender is in.

wonderloss July 8th, 2011 08:22 AM

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

Originally, I thought CBM 1.6 was the last one with non-unique gem generators. I later realized I was mistaken, that 1.5 was the last one, but I stuck with 1.6.

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

A scene, similar to this one, occurs in the capital of all land nations. In a public square, there is an old man, with wild, disheveled hair and eyes that stare off in the distance. He smells of the sea. His body in constant motion, twitching and jerking. He raises his arms and calls out in a loud voice.
"It is time! The half-moon is in the bowl. Look behind you. The cows are not what they seem. They come from the corners. Don't let them see you! Don't let them see you!"
He becomes more frantic, and his words turn to gibberish. From the cord he wears as a belt, he draws a knife and raises is it above his head. He brings it down with a quick move, then falls to the ground, silent. A crimson puddle spreads from below his neck. A lone sea gull perches on his head, plucks out one eye, then flies off in the direction of the sea.

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

The people of Man are greatly disturbed by the ill omen perceived just in front of the gates to the Towers of Chelms. They turn to the magisters for consolation and guidance. But the gates remain shut, the Magisters of the Towers stay silent.
In these hours of great fear the people remember their old ways and send a delegation to the ancient and once sacred Woods of Avalon. Lead by Arthur, the captain of the Castellans of the Towers, the group enters the great heritage of the old faith to seek in the past for answers to the questions of today.

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

Arthur has changed. as he returns from the sacred Forest. He was a well respected, even admired commander before. But now he literally radiates devine power and authority. He is as much as worshipped by his fellow comrades. Then he approaches the crowdbefore the towers:
"Fear not! A new age has dawned. And it will be an age of hardship and great strife. But it will also be an age of great honor and achievement. In the Forest I was given a vision by Taliesin, the Merlin. The sleeping god of our people. The master of all magics and soon to be ruler of this world. The Great one named me his Prophet and bid me to do his willing. We are to spread his Dominion far and wide to prepare for his return. But he also warned me. There will be others to claim godhood. Don't show mercy to their followers, he told me. Hunt them down and squash them, wherever you find them. For he is the only god there is to be!"
The large crowd of people hail the new prophet, when at last, the gates of the towers open. The towerguard marches forth and seizes the self proclaimed prophet without any resistance.
The crowd is stunned, and remains so for several hours. Just as they get restless a balcony door of the towers open, and the Archbishop himself emerges.
"Hear what I have to say! Arthur was brought before the congregation of bishops. We heard him through and we tested him. And in the end we found that every word he told was true. He IS the Prophet of our God Taliesin. And he will lead our armies to victory over all unbelievers and enemies of the Merlin. So all hail Arthur, the Prophet of Taliesin!"
With great cheer from the crowd Arthur enters the balcony to behold his new followers. And a new age for the people of Man and the whole world has dawned

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

I am vacation this week. I will be able to get a turn in tonight. If there is another new turn by tomorrow morning, I will probably be able to get one out before I leave, other wise I will need to postpone hosting and try to get one in by Wednesday evening. After Wednesday, I will be unavailable until Thursday evening.
I am GMT-5.

Alrighty.

The armies of Arcoscephale are building, if slower than I would like.

wonderloss July 11th, 2011 03:25 PM

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

The most recent turn had a hosting error. As a result, llamaserver sent a turn where everyone has staled. I have the option of rolling back and allowing everyone to submit a new turn or just continuing with the stales.
My preferred option, unless there is a strong objection, is to continue with things as they are. It means everyone loses a turn of recruiting and movement, but everyone also has an extra turn of income and research. Rolling back introduces the risk of more errors.

wonderloss July 11th, 2011 03:55 PM

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

Looks like things are back on track. We have a corrected turn 5. Make sure you use the more recent turn where you have not staled.

wonderloss July 12th, 2011 11:44 AM

Re: "Relaxed Pace" Late Age Game

I set hosting interval for the next turn to 48 hours. It will return to 24 after that.
