Bullock July 2nd, 2011 01:20 PM

I see many noobs game running so i hope there is still some with free time !
So obviously this game is looking for noobs, hardly motivated (no stall, fight to the death, preferring fast paced game...), without much project for this summer (no people who will be on vacation all august for example) subscribe

I also had in mind the possibility of making teams of noobies against more experienced players who will be teamless.

So if you are experienced you can also leave a message.

So here are the parameters (which can be changed if requested by players and if the majority is ok).

ERA: Late Age
MAP: Plane of Rusty nails
http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/attac...6&d=1297439609
Turns RATE: 24h until turn 30 and 48h above.
Players: 11
Mods: CBM 1.84
Victory condition : Until survivors agree for a winner ... or to the death !
Diplomacy : All is allowed.

also:
Special site frequency:60
Money, resources, Supply: 125
Ind strength : 7
Renaming:On
Score graphs:On
Hall of fame entries:15

Due to the map only one aquatic nation can be taken (but we can change the map)

EDIT 07/07

Since player slots are almost full i want to remind you the spirit of this game, before you submit your pretender:

* This is a game to death (no AI 'til you are really screwed, and please post here before going AI)
* As a fast paced game if you need a break (>3days... more if it's exceptional and if everyone is ok) try to find a sub.
* You can cheat your opponents by not respecting your word when doing diplomacy, but expect that everyone will know it. (i hope the thread will be very active, and not only by cheated guys ^^)
* Since we have only 2 veterans (10+ MP game) i won't apply my initial idea of doing teams of noobs. Instead they will get a handicap (Something like no diplo or forced stall for the few first turns ... or no handicap) I ll set a poll so everyone can choose (even the concerned person)
* Have fun !

If you are fine with this description then you can start making your pretender !(Do not forget to apply CBM 1.84 and no password setting !!)

The game will start as soon as the 11 pretenders are in with 48h for the 1rt turn and then normal turn of 24h.

Here is the link of the game :

FAQ About llamaserver

HOW TO JOIN (from http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showp...16&postcount=2)

- Make sure you have the same mods enabled as the game you're playing in (Preferences->Mod Preferences) although only mods affecting pretender design, such as Conceptual Balance, actually matter
- Go to Game Tools -> Create a pretender god in Dominions. Don't set a password, since for PBEM games they're not helpful and occasionally annoying (e.g. if you need a sub)
- Go to the savedgames/newlords folder in the dominions directory, and find your pretender file (e.g. mid_pythium_0.2h)
- E-mail the file to: pretenders[ at ]llamaserver[ dot ]net
- Crucially, you must have the game name in the subject line of your e-mail (Noobs_are_gone_frenzY)

Enjoy !

Bullock July 5th, 2011 09:30 AM

Re: Noobs are gone frenzY - Late Age - Recruiting

its all up to you to decide, who to ban.
For me, Ermor sure is very strong and because of that strength, very vulnerable to other players ganking against him. If ANY nation ever conquers Ermor`s province all it get is a graveyard with 40 population, extreme supply problems and almost negative income. xD

Because of that Ermor extremly strong midgame - when no SC present, but huge armies are common - to march such an armies onto Ermors land, you need strong supplys. But when SC kicks in, its all changing. I`d not ban Ermor, just took some strong priestly nation like Pythium/Marignon or went in water - R`lyeh! xD

DarkAvenger211 July 5th, 2011 10:19 AM

Re: Noobs are gone frenzY - Late Age - Recruiting

Sure I'll join in. I want to try something new. Put me in as LA R'lyeh

Bullock July 5th, 2011 11:03 AM

Re: Noobs are gone frenzY - Late Age - Recruiting

Woot we are 2 players ! Champagne !

btw i want to try Ermor in MP cause there is no fun playing them SP since the AI sux very hard against them.

Anaconda July 5th, 2011 01:55 PM

Re: Noobs are gone frenzY - Late Age - Recruiting

Sign me in for Pythium.

I have been playing since Dom2 but I am quite unexperienced when it comes to serious MP and mods, like CBM's.

welcome aboard!

Ossa July 5th, 2011 03:31 PM

Re: Noobs are gone frenzY - Late Age - Recruiting 3/10

I'd like to join as Marignon, though I'm no newb - but I'm definitly not a good player.

Bullock July 5th, 2011 08:09 PM

Re: Noobs are gone frenzY - Late Age - Recruiting 3/10

ok added !

PriestyMan July 5th, 2011 08:14 PM

Re: Noobs are gone frenzY - Late Age - Recruiting 4/10

I think its pretty funny that Ossa will join vets only games like YARG, then join a game hosted by someone who has never played MP before. sick of getting crushed, or hoping for an easy win?

Bullock July 5th, 2011 08:27 PM

Re: Noobs are gone frenzY - Late Age - Recruiting 4/10

indeed, you have more than 30 games u r definitly not a noob Ossa.i put you as vet =)

agelian July 7th, 2011 02:42 AM

Re: Noobs are gone frenzY - Late Age - Recruiting 4/10

I'll have a crack.. but I'll let you know that I am a super N00b! I've played a few SP games and watched a few games on youtube and vimeo.. but thats about it!.. If you dont mind a super n00b ill join.

Also a recommendation for a LA choice would help as i havent tended to play any of these.

Cheers!

Bullock July 7th, 2011 03:46 AM

Re: Noobs are gone frenzY - Late Age - Recruiting 4/10

hey Agelian !
Well it s fine to me until you know the basics, do your best, and play 'til the end.

I won't give advice about nation choice since my knowledge is very limited

Welcome !

agelian July 7th, 2011 03:57 AM

Re: Noobs are gone frenzY - Late Age - Recruiting 5/10

Ok I guess ill give Bogarus a shot then!

Umsolfunolanis July 7th, 2011 06:53 AM

Re: Noobs are gone frenzY - Late Age - Recruiting 5/10

I'd like to join as C'Tis. I have played two MP games so far but one isnt finished yet.
Also I would like to reserve a spot for a friend who's account hasn't been activated yet. He has one MP game I think and he would like to join as Abysia.

I have never played LA before. Maybe I should take a look at it in SP before this game starts.

And one question about CBM. I know, that it has to be activated when creating my Pretender, but must it also be activated when playing my turn??

Bullock July 7th, 2011 07:17 AM

Re: Noobs are gone frenzY - Late Age - Recruiting 5/10

Ok i ll reserve a spot for your friend.
Concerning CBM it s a good question, the answer is interesting me also.

I would like to join as Jomon. This will be my fourth MP game (none of which have ended yet).

Strabo July 7th, 2011 07:34 AM

Re: Noobs are gone frenzY - Late Age - Recruiting 7/10

I'd like to join as Patala. Haven't played like for a year. Played 4 or 5 MP games, but had no success.

Cool there is a rush of noobies coming, great =)
I m updating the post

It says once the mods are activated then they will be automatically activated for your game when loaded. But thats what it says in options active mods when you look.. not sure if that is the case!

I have updated the first post.

You can now send your pretender in!

Done!

Soyweiser July 7th, 2011 10:47 AM

Re: Noobs are gone frenzY - Late Age - Recruiting 9/10

Well if you allow one more non noob. (I'm not a noob anymore, but not a vet per se. But I think I'm pretty good. And I tend not to give up and fight till the bitter end. And I tend to over-think battles and think about how to counter previous tactics people used. (Or at least I try)).

I'll play LA Atlantis. (after Maerlande kicked me dead with them, I'm interested to see how they work). And LA Atlantis with LA Jomon in the game will give LA R'lyeh some headaches. (Both Atlantis and Jomon want at least one underwater castle + fort for diversity).

So if you want me great. If you don't also good. Saves me the time ;)

LongBrodie July 7th, 2011 11:04 AM

Re: Noobs are gone frenzY - Late Age - Recruiting 9/10

So, I loaded up a single player game to test out CBM 1.84 (I haven't really played around with it much, yet) and for some reason all cavalry in the game have doubled weapons - two swords, two hoof attacks, two lances, two bows if they're mounted archers... What's going on here???

agelian July 7th, 2011 11:06 AM

Re: Noobs are gone frenzY - Late Age - Recruiting 9/10

Hey Soyweiser I'm currently reading your bootcamp game at the end of last year!!

Soyweiser July 7th, 2011 11:09 AM

Re: Noobs are gone frenzY - Late Age - Recruiting 9/10

Ow god, Bootcamp... The game that does not end. Turn 100+ and the war between me and Mar is in a stalemate. Most other players are crushed beneath my frostboots. But Mar is somehow holding up greatly. That was actually the first MP game I started playing in. (And my pretender design shows that ;) ).

Soyweiser July 7th, 2011 11:10 AM

Re: Noobs are gone frenzY - Late Age - Recruiting 9/10

LongBrodie, there has been a bug in the newest patch regarding old mods. Check the mods forum for a CBM update.

Well you seem quite strong lol. I think i ll start the game saturday morning, if there is no other noobie who want to join by that time i let you in (unless some noobies already in don t want to). I will think about a potential handicap four you and Ossa.

I downloaded the fixed version but forgot to put it in my mods folder since I've mostly been playing vanilla...

Thanks for reminding me! <3

LongBrodie July 7th, 2011 11:24 AM

Re: Noobs are gone frenzY - Late Age - Recruiting 9/10

This game is going to be short, tense, and bloody with such a small map and 10 players competing for space. Some of us will start right on top of each other. :)

Soyweiser July 7th, 2011 11:31 AM

Re: Noobs are gone frenzY - Late Age - Recruiting 9/10

Well the best way to prevent people from winning in a strong position is diplomacy. Band together, share information, and take the stronger player out. But that can be hard to organize. (But if you don't do that, the stronger player wins. Like I did in FirstSteps (That and finding a 20% conj site as a major conj nation)).

Since we can learn more from experienced players i think it could be interesting to add you also. But to do a fair balanced game i ll propose some handicaps for you two (with Ossa).
To do that i'll do a poll with some proposition.

It sounds fair but also funny :D

About the map Longbrodie is maybe right especially if we have 2 water nations, but it can be fun that way too. If you have any suggestion i m listening (size 150 max)

LA only has one water nation (R'lyeh, with the killer dominion), but a few that can also enter the water and build PD. Atlantis and Jomon.

Re: Noobs are gone frenzY - Late Age - Send pretender in !

Ok guys i have updated :

The map
The victory condition
The number of players
I have also added a pole to vote for or against handicap for vet players.

If there is more votes for "none" than the sum of the 3 others handicap option then no handicap applied for vet
Otherwise the most popular handicap will be picked.
If there is many "something else" ... well i'm waiting you proposition.

For X i was thinking of 3 turns. Seems fair to me.

I expect to start the game saturday.

If you don't like the change feel free to say it here or by PM.

Cheers

agelian July 7th, 2011 01:29 PM

Re: Noobs are gone frenzY - Late Age - Send pretenders in !

Not quite sure what but maybe some kind of way to make it 2 groups with a vet on each side? maybe.. i dont know really.. whatever the majority wants

The Kurgan July 7th, 2011 01:48 PM

Re: Noobs are gone frenzY - Late Age - Send pretenders in !

Bullock, can you edit the first post with a link to where v4 is of that map? I found a v3 on llamaserver's mod/map list, but no v4.

Also, IMO the vets are at a disadvantage if the noobs gang up on them. :p That may be enough of a handicap.... Or not. lol.

Bullock July 7th, 2011 02:00 PM

Re: Noobs are gone frenzY - Late Age - Send pretenders in !

@agelian : Not sure it s a good idea since spawn are random. (but i m ok to use it if the majority does)

@Kurgan maybe u r right about handicap. Concerning the map i added a link.

agelian July 7th, 2011 02:01 PM

Re: Noobs are gone frenzY - Late Age - Send pretenders in !

Just search the map name here on the forum without the v4. Then scroll to the bottom!!

Nope, LA only has R'lyeh as a water nation. Atlantis is a surface nation. Strangely enough.

Right, I vote for no diplo. Seems like the option that is the most fun. And it totally clashes with my normal playstyle.

Talrivian July 7th, 2011 10:07 PM

Re: Noobs are gone frenzY - Late Age - Send pretenders in !

Actually, LA Ermor and R'lyeh are broken, not because of their abilities, but because of what they do to the game. Whoever starts next to them has no choice but to fight them because of the horrible effects of their dominion. If you get into a war with them, and win, you will have nothing to show for it because of the fact that there dominion slowly dies off. All you will have is empty, useless provinces, no reward to show for your efforts, whereas, if you fought another nation, their provinces would provide you with a monetary and resourceful bonus.
