Red Wood, Burning Forest

Red Wood,

is a nation of Ents, forest fire wildlife and Pixies.

- Trees burst into flames spontaneously when facing enemies.
- Ent mages get magical Pixie companions.
- Powerful Fire Spout and Forest Shamblers.
- Explosive battlefield summons.
- A burning flower

v2.6

- New Logo. Replaced the ugly overland tree
- Graphical update on some units. Mostly shades and some rogue pixels.
- Fire Flies have forest survival
- Entling 22 -> 24 hp.
- Ents 10 -> 11 prot.
- Only .8 extra Pixie per point PD above 20.

v2.5

- Boulder Thrower: 20 resources
- Boulder Thrower: Good Leader
- Forest Shambler: Recuperation
- Fire Spout summon is Berserked from start of battle. No longer possible to Hold x5 and stay behind troops order.
- Dryad is able to shape change into an Oak.
- Dryad has 2W2N as magic paths.
- New Shape: Oak. Powerful immobile Dryad form. With enhanced magics and generates a Nature gem each turn. And has 3W2E3N as magic paths.
- Dryad and Oak shape now have Stealthy 30. If you are able to change into a tree at will, it's not that hard to hide from enemies.
- Greater Mossbody now 2W1N plus W gem to cast.

v2.4

- New Unit: Dryad. 3N3W mage that generates a W gem each month and is a good healer.
- New Unit: Crippling Vine. Tough summon with crippling attack.
- Forest Shambler now 3N3E instead of 3N3W and generates an Earth gem each month. Also freespawns some vines at the start of Battle. No longer casts Moss Body and Warriors of Muspelheim On everyone.
- New Spell: Greater Mossbody. 3W3N. Cast Mossbody on your entire army and makes everyone a little more resilient to fire.
- New Spell: Uproot. 2E1N, 2 Earth gems. Summons 10+ vines in battle.
- Ent and Entling a little cheaper.
- Pixies Awe +2
- Fire Stallion, Bond of Fire attack now only on hit instead of automatic hit
- Ent mage have their research increased by 2 while the Fire Fox got a decrease of 2.

v2.3

- Ent mages now 2 times WEN 50% magic
- Boulder thrower 50% chance at WEN magic
- All forest tree creatures Poison resist 50. Synergistic with the W random as Foul Vapors and Poison strategy becomes an option.
- Pick a Flower now Fire Resist -100. The flower will burn itself up against immobile targets like The Oracle or Sphinx.
- Upped the casting cost of Fire Spout to 40 and Research level 6 -> 7

v2.2

- Pixie trick now summons the less upkeep requiring Pixies
- Pick a Flower now F2N2 and Magic resists
- Entling 50 -> 42gp
- Ent troop 80 -> 70gp
- Fire Stallion Hoof attack is strengh add
- Boulder fire damage AoE 5 -> 6
- Boulder Throuwer AoE 1 crush attack
- Boulder Thrower Siege bonus 20
- Fire Pixie AP 4
- Fire Pixie Defence 18 -> 13
- Fire Pixie Map move 3 -> 2
- Fire Pixie troop 12gp -> 22gp

You'll need a big bless and have to pay 110gp + 10x22 = 330gp for an expansion party of Pixies now. Compared to Lanka which has an expansion party at 270gp. And with Def 13 you will get some attrition even against normal troops.

Wow, I'm on a roll. Two updates on one day. Christmas is early this year.

The Forest shambler is a powerful 3W3N mage. It'll also cast Moss body and Warriors of Muspelheim on all friendly units at the start of battle. The upside is that all units get an armor of moss and are a little more fire resistant but when not careful they will poison themselves.

- New Unit: Ancient Forest Shambler
- Bane Pixie now also summonable.
- Some stuff.

v1.20

The Fire Spout is a powerful summon. It not only tramples and incinerates enemies but also generates Burning Hearts on the battlefield. Seems that when it dies the unit generation continues for about 5 more turns. (like decay and poison?)

- Added Flag
- New unit descriptions

- Fixed Fire Fly Queen summoning skills
- Added Baphomet as Pretender option
- Bane Fire Pixies get 1F1D as magic. Is nice for forging flaming skull.

The Boulder Thrower has a powerful AoE attack and get a Pixie companion in battle who can cast some nasty spells.
The two hero's are very worthwhile to take a Luck scale for.
Fire Fly is a 1gp scout. Got the idea from Black Ulm and I really like it. But that's probably because I want to spy on everyone :).

I've tried some unusual design decisions with the resistances and re invigoration rates. The result is the first nation that is immune against stellar cascades :).

And before anyone claims 350 gold for an Ent mage with only 4 magic is way overpriced I'd say:
Research Conjuration 4, Evocation 8 and Thaumaturgy 3 and take them to the battle field.
They will have some amazing destructive power.

Anyway, y'all should just try it out to see what I mean.

In Illwinters next game the ability to burn woods is a major tactic. Plus other changes such as turning them into withered forests, or into ancient forests.

I think it would make sense to make the pixie commander an ok magic leader at least. (#OKMAGICLEADER = base 40 magic units) Limiting the pixie commanders to 10 magic beings, when all the recruitable pixies are magic beings, is quite a handicap. Maybe you've looked at this and intentionally made it so, but at my first glance it makes recruiting sacred pixies far more expensive than their gold and resource cost would indicate because I need to recruit a leader for every 10, which is pretty much every turn.

At first I was going to ask why the recruitable Ents have such low HP, but then I realized the intent with the changeshape and I think you've got an awesome concept with an elegant mechanic.

No other mod can compare to your Myconos mod, but this one is brilliant.

Altogether, this is a very entertaining nation. You've really been an inspiration to me.

The reason is that the Pixies got nerfed quite a bit.
They were really over powered and still are very powerful.
Take the Baphomet Pretender with F9S9 and 10 Pixies will rip through most Indies.

So by having them only have 10 Magic leadership it will be at least more costly in terms of gold and in lost research to expand.
Plus I think it's not really Pixie like to have large armies of Pixies.

Later in the game with a little more experience they can command 15 Pixies and the Ents can command some too. But if you really need a lot of magical leadership it's possible for Red Wood to cast "Awake Sleeper".
