Nation Challenge (attn: Dogscoff & Growltigga)
hey guys. I liked your idea of a game between the old world and us over here in the colonies, and it looks like someone has beat you to it (tho there should be room for another)
Check out the "International War" game on the PBW server, described as follows:
quote:
Game description Finally a game of international fighting. This is a game of 2 teams. International, i.e. europe, asia, etc. vs. North America. There will be 2 teams of 5 people. The first team to lose all its members are the losers. When you sign up, please e-mail me and tell me where you are from, and then when everybody has joined up, I will announce what the teams are. If there are more than 5 members applying for the team, it is a first come first serve basis, and you unfortunately will not be allowed to play. Tell your friends about this game, it's gonna be great. No Intel Starting resources: 100000 Starting planets: 5, Home planet value: Good Score display: all Technology level: Medium Racial points: 5000 Quadrant Size: Large Large Event frequency: None Event severity: Low or none Technology cost: Medium Maximum units: 5000 Maximum ships: 5000 Computer players: Low Computer difficulty: High Computer player bonus: High Neutral empires: Yes, Game information Owner: Turn number: 2402.7 Players/max: 10/10 Last turn: Dec 17, 2001 9:33:48 PM PST Next turn: Dec 19, 2001 9:33:48 PM PST Turn duration: 48 hours Turn automation: Fully automatic turns (key) SE4 Version: Stock v1.49

I dont know who is who in the game, and the forum is not open to the public, but it is possible to check the stats. I am fairly certain that the Dominion of Canada is fighting on the side of good and right, and they are placed well enough. on the other hand, im fairly sure that the Kindom of Belgium is one of the bad guys and they are placed slightly higher. oh well, its only turn 27 so i dont need to see our guys in ranks 1 - 5 just yet. anybody have any insider information on this game? Re: Nation Challenge (attn: Dogscoff & Growltigga)
Growltigga,
I would be interested in a PBEM with you. You seem to have the same experiance level I do. I have about 40 or so hours into the gaame. Before that it was SE III, Empire Deluxe, Civ II, I'll post the full list in "How old are you" formum tommorrow. I'm still writing it. This does not constitute a challenge so much as an offer. I feel if we both enjoy it, then we both win, Scores are unimportant to me. Are you game? |

Gryphin, definately game on for a PBEM - given that I am about as useful with a computer as I am at line dancing - I am not sure how PBEM works - do you know?

Re: Nation Challenge (attn: Dogscoff & Growltigga)
Afternoon all, right
first off, dumbluck - well efficient response my man - you must have too much sugar in your blood stream, also hope maccie D's sausage patty doesn't give you wind second, dogscoff - the honour of the Brits is at stake here as we really do not want another bunker hill do we - any assistance would be well appreciated. third, gryphin - count me in for the PBEM - I will be on holiday until the new year, then in Arizona and then Madrid so we will need to kick the game off say toward the end of January. Which also gives me a little time to get the hang of the game and sus the PBEM thingy. fourth - honour dictates that I issue a challenge before the game starts so heregoes "Gryphin - come and have a go if you think you're hard enough" - the UK forum jockeys may understand this better fifth - question - do you still have alien races on a PBEM or is it a simple - there's Gryphin's empire - kick him in the happysacks? sixth - sharks??? I'll do sharks if you do skunks - I am a traditional type and will stick with the terran ship types albeit my empire is called the Solar Federation seventh - 47? I couldn't possibly abuse such an old chap (NB Moderators - this is not flaming) eighth - Gryphin - I should point out that I charge £150 per hour or £300 for three questions |

Growltigga,
1st) dumbluck, Yes, thanks for a fast reply 2nd) doscuff, please remind Mister Tigga that the Red Coats won the battle of * Breeds Hill *, (It just cost them dearly) I am saving a famous quote for an appropriate time 3rd) The end of January sounds good for me for the same reasons 4th) Challenge hereby accepted. Not only am I hard enough, but I am good enough as well, (a pun you will understand some day) 5th) As for my happy sacks, You and what armada? 5th) < broad grin > Hmm, in the USA, we derogatorily refer to Lawyers as * Sharks *. I will be using one of the easier to see ship sets. 6th) Correct, you don't have what it takes to abuse me, (maybe when you are older) Moderators: Please allow for friendly banter between me and my young but honorable opponent. 7th) I should point out that the *check is in the mail * I wish I could meet you in Arizona. I have photos of the area around Tucson at my website. www.windingstream.com I put my gameing history in * How Old Are You Thread * More later |
Re: Nation Challenge (attn: Dogscoff & Growltigga)
Gryphin
Paraphrasing the response 2nd - remember Pearl Harbour, the Alamo etc etc - about time you uppity yanks got a taste of good old british steel - there are no French to help you this time 4th - teddy bears at dawn I feel 5th - the armada that will be woppin' (is that how is it said?) you in the game 5th - dont worry, I wouldn't dream of taking advantage of your dodgy eyesight 6th - you ain't seen nothing yet 7th - telegraphic transfer of funds only - account details to follow - please note all bills are to be settled in full within 15 days of request Arizona will be work and a wedding - apparently Arizona lasses think English chaps are a much better catch than the locals - natural selection really |

Growltigga 2nd) The Battle of Bunker Hill was fought on Breeds Hill, Well now, I have checked my Enclycopedia Britannica and it definately refers to Bunker Hill, not Breeds Hill and as that is the font of all knowledge, I assume it is you Gryphin who is geographically challenged (by the way, for all you colonials out there, London is in England, not vice versa (NB there's me getting chucked out of the forum for good!!!!) The Battle of New Orleans comes to mind, Something about the War of 1812. Hmm, Jonny Horton had quite a song about it. Would you like the lyrics? I already know the one about the battle of new orleans ie "we fired our guns but the british kept on coming but there wasnt that many as there was a while ago?" - time for a hoe downI feel and I am beginning to worry that you may be a line dancer or into country and western music Shall I quote Kipling and his poem about the Zulus broke the British Square? If you wish - interesting new development on the Zulus on a very good documentary over here - the expose shows they used drugs heavily to work themselves into a fighting spirit so much that you would probably have needed a modern armoured battlaion to stop massed zulu impis - not just a battalion of English and native soldiers with martini henry - that being said we did well as Shaka did say the British were the bravest warrios besides the zulus 4th) Goodenough is my Last name, and that is the way it is pronounced. You are joking - if not - nice to meet you - mine is Plummer-St John- Fawke 5th) Please send in the fleet, we will use the scrap metal to build a memorial to your vanished race. Please, typical American chutzbah - if you mention Mom's homemade apple pie and crumbly candy bars (or is that dumbluck) I will personally cry - always remember that only a nationwith considerable history like England can compoete and compoete with style - if we lose, we will lose with style, panache and elegance and if we go down, the galaxy will say that we looked good going down * correcting my typo * 6th) I challenge you to choose a ship set that will be difficult to see. I have never used my vision as an excuse, and I would not want to deprive you of an advantage. For things to work correctly it will have to be one of the default sets. The only advantage I need is another bottle of vino and permission from 'she who must be obeyed' to play BTW: These dodgy eyes took all but one of the photos at my web site. 8th) True, I have not seen anything yet from you. Nor do I expect to. Though the hot air has been good for a chuckle and a wry grin or two. Likewise - I now christen you Montgolfier for all the hot air produced on this thread - I look forward to the opportunity of learning SE IV and PBEM together - the worst that can happen is that I give up and go back to Shogun Warlord 7th) You will have to accept telepathic payment Do you have bailiffs in the US? if not, you might have a surprise You quote Darwin? I would say you are right. You have to come here to find someone of quality, No, I quote Churchill after the Battle of Britain. Re: Nation Challenge (attn: Dogscoff & Growltigga)
Growltigga,
I don't know, but I suspect we will have the answer shortly. I'll try to start a game and send it to you. Let's do trial and error till we get the mechanics down right, then we can start a serious game were the obvious advantage of my age, (47), will aid me in prevailing over someone so young. < bemused grin >. I'll try to start a game tonight, (4:30 pm my time). No matter what happens, We know the Red White and Blue will win. I will use a small cluster glaxy, no catastrophys, and the defaults for everything else. Please let me know what you think. Other formum members: Would you li8ke postings of the progress here? I'll take the Swiss anyday. They make cool tanks. Enjoy, |
Re: Nation Challenge (attn: Dogscoff & Growltigga)

Re: Nation Challenge (attn: Dogscoff & Growltigga)
Good evening. (I haven't gone to bed yet, and until I do, it's still thursday evening, so there!)
I also thought of something else for you. You can just use pbw to distrubute your turns, all you have to do is set automatic turns to off. You execute the turns from your computer, and pbw pretty much does the rest. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif |

Save for the classical, can we draw a veil over the rest? I am not surprised to hear that about the Zulus, but what you are saying is that the square was broken by a bunch of drugged guys carrying spears. Basically yes, 'guys with spears' so hyped up that pain, fear, realisation of heavy losses, superior British hand to hand combat skills (see later) didn't mean diddly - think about it - a man with even the best machine gun going is going to have problems taking out 50 guys with spears on his own, especially if tghose 50 blokes are doped to the nines, know no fear etc What also was intenresting was the analysis that one to one, the British redcoat was actually far more effective in hand to hand combant than a zulu warrior. Keeping in mind the other African natios you would compare them to, the zulu's main effectiveness came from disclipine and tactics (and numbers) Yep, my true name, :: Extending a Hand to Shake :: Full name Steve Frank Goodenough, Nice to meet you also.
