Here I am, new years eve, and what am I doing? Playing SE4 and posting on the Boards here....

Re: Well, I have no life....

This year has been rather bittersweet for me. On one hand, there is all the $#!% that's going on with the nation (terrorism and all), and on the other hand, there is the continuing joy that is my baby boy that arrived in April.

On the work front, the year started out really badly, but it is finally starting to look up again.

And of coarse, I haven't had any health problems like you have. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif

http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Your a proud Poppa http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Well congrats. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

When I was 11, I wondered what the year 2001 would hold for me, for the world. It was just after I saw the movie 2001 a S.O..

I would have never in a million years guessed that I would be unemployed, ill, and sitting at home reading & posting on the internet.

But that is just how life works. I accept that, and pray for better times to come. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Upon reflection, things are not as bad as they seem, or could be, and for that I am thankful. The economy is showing signs of improving, job losses are down, people are more carring than they have been in years, we have a great president(IMHO), and despite all the horrible things that have happened to so many this year around the world, life still goes on, and we have not blown our selves up.

I might be having a tough go of it, but I know that there are others out there having just as bad of time as me, or worse, and I sincerely hope and pray that good times come soon for many of us. I know that good times, or lack of worser times, is a good thing, and I eagarly await them. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Happy New Year ALL.

Well, 2001 has and gone. I agree it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

I guess 50 years ago people thought we'd be on Mars by now, or would have blown ourselves up. I guess we came in somewhere in the middle.

But still, where are the flying cars? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

It is? Could have fooled me!!!

Anyway, they didn't have an internet back then, did they.

Oh, and the movie reference makes you, what, about 11 years older than me?

Re: Well, I have no life....

Yea, I want my flying car!!! of coarse, I'm not so sure I want any of the other crazy drivers out there having one.....

As to the blowing ourselves up, ... maybe india and pakistan will take care of that for us this next year. Yes, next year; i've still got 30 minutes to go...

Oh. Well, then I was a little off on the release date of 2001. I'm, well, you know all of this if you read the "how old are you" thread. Oh, ok, I'll tell you again. I'm 27, living with my 24 year old wife and my 8 month old son (and my mother in law lives with us, too).

Bored.... well, sometimes. I don't exactly have the most exciting job in the world, but it got more interesting recently. Well, more hectic, anyway.

Other computer games? What other computer games? There are other computer games besides SE4??? Oh, wait. I vaguely remember playing a game called... what was it? Something like "starcraft" or something. And there is this cd in my case for a city building game. I guess I must have played it some, too, long ago. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif

I think all you guys are AWESOME! You concentrate on the good things you have, even though things aren't as good as you may like. For me, I have a fantastic job (firing rocket motors for a defense contractor), have had good health (except for the stroke I had Last year lifting weights. BTW, I'm fine), a great family, and 2 adorable beagles. It's my hope and prayer that this year is good for you, and you move forward. And thanks once more for the great message board.

Nope, just daft as in 2 cans short of a 6 pack and prone to do strange things

2001 :: Deleted foolish stuff :: is the year I have seen dramatic personal growth. Yes, I have a few "issues" to resolve but, I have a new facinating game, a very secure job, a good set of siblings and nieces and nefews, and this is the year I'm going to womp Growltigga in SE IV, (or get crushed trying)

http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif 2001 started out ok, it ended a bust. Still trying to remodel my kitchen & downstairs, a job that should have taken 2 wks is now on the 4th week and we're still living out of boxs and no sink, try finding something you thought you had marked on the box and forgot,, ugh, http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif other then that I woke up every morning which I'm thankful for and always remember that others out there have it worse then me and my family, I will keep trying to live each day as they come and hopefully will have many years of play time ahead.

2002 has got to be better when it comes to that $^&(*(*&^%''' Kitchen mess...... It can't keep going on, can it????/ won't it ever get done????

Well, mac, my parents are having a bathroom and kitchen remodeled, plus having central heat & A/C installed, plus having a new full bathroom installed, and trying to remove textured paint from nearly every wall in the house. Even with professional help, it's taking 3-4 MONTHS to accomplish everything. They've been living without sinks in the bathrooms for over a month. In fact, I ended up hosting the family Thanksgiving at MY house because Mom's was so torn up. And my sister hosted Christmas at HER house for the same reason.

So, I guess I'm saying it could be worse; but I wouldn't expect your kitchen remodelling to be a fast job. Especially if it's the first time you've done any of the tasks. I recently replaced two bathroom sinks and 3 sets of faucets; it took 3 times longer to get the first sink and first set of faucets in than it took to get the rest of the work done.

Man, this thread is depressing. I personally am looking foreward to a great year. After 7 long years I am finally moving out of this hellish town and getting my own place. (I never thought this day would come.)

Oh ya, gonna be livin it up in sunny Arizona!

So, the Arizona connection grows. What part of AZ are you moving to? Yesterday, the high in the Phoenix area was in the mid 60s, so things are really nice right now. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif (Of course, you have to brace yourself for June, July and August, but that's a different story.) http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif

TS, tell your mom I feel for her, its like living a nightmare in h... doing dishes in the utility tub, can't find anything you need, colors not coming out right and on and on and on.... yuk

Growltigga, I did have some professional help, that's part of the problem, myself, wife & 2 different contractors. lost cupBoards, floor grout that came out in 3 DIFFERENT COLORS, now whole floor has to be re-done, and thats only the beginning. I'm glad we put this off for the Last 20yrs, I don't think I could go thru this more then once a life time, if there ever is a next time, I'm just going to sell and but a nice little condo, haven't had much playing time because of it..

Oh how I feel and relate to those who try this...

Gryphin, senility can lead to unpredictability as well!!

On a serious note, I think I am going to give up SEIV and go back to playing Shogun - I had no problems commanding thousands of Samurai but everytime I play SEIV - I get whomped by some b##### alien race - it is beginning to get depressing as I just don't seem to have the time to devote to trying to understand all the nuances of this game without a manual/idiots' guide!!

Re: Well, I have no life....

Mac5732,
Kitchens, conservatories, patios and wooden floors are 4 things man is not meant to wot of without the help of a professional.

I have done all 4 in 2001 which means it is going to go down as (a) an expensive year (b) bloody stressful and (c) not a time for your wife to realise she actually preferred oak to maple when you have just put down 100 square metres of the stuff

2002 was meant to be the year of no home improvements!!

Mac, what can I say? you have my deepest condolences and best wishes for resolving this

I took the view that I didn't want contractors involved for the same reasons (it helps if your brother is a builder who built his own 9 bedroom house) - still took us a solid 3 1/2 weeks to redo the kitchen and that is even with a great belgian company turning up to help fit the electrics etc

I am starting the bathroom in two weeks. Ripping the wall out and the floors, hopefully not moving everything about too much. We will wait and see what the wife has in store for that. Cross my fingers.

Other than that. I was sick for 2 months but now I am getting better. ( I thank Case Del Mar Dominican Republic for that )

So this year will be very good.

And hopefully I will be able to master Shogun before July rolls around. That game is hard.

TS, I feel sorry for you on your remodel, mine started by my wife wanting to just replace the carpet in the attached family room, then to the dinette, kitchen, hallway, down bath and utility room. ugh, ugh, my condolences beforehand, I'm still not done, contractor coming tommorrow to stain the grout they screwed up 3 TIMES.....,

anyway glad your back, shogun is fun and ninjas can and do take out geishas, just takes 3 or more to take 1 geisha, do you have the Warlord Eddition with the new Mongol Invasion expansion included or just the original Shogun?
