I think I would like to give Tien Chi a try if you don't think I am too experienced for the game.

Are you going to start before or after Easter? I'd like to try out Pangaea, but i would probably be ready start next monday.

On second thought, I think I would like to try something really different, so I'll switch to Atlantis.

Re: Blood and Honey- new game for experienced players (recruiting)

CyborgKillerMonster and Reverend Zombie,

I indirectly know of or have played with everyone who's signed up for this game so far except for the two of you. I'd like to verify that you meet my requested standard of having roughly 5-15 MP games. I'd prefer if this game not be unduly imbalanced by having someone who knows the ins and outs of Dominions 3 less well than everyone else.

Thanks, and no offense intended.

Reverend Zombie April 5th, 2012 03:48 PM

Re: Blood and Honey- new game for experienced players (recruiting)

I played pretty regularly 5 or so years ago (definitely in the 15+ MP game range). So I know the mechanics of the game very well; I'm still learning my way around the changes made in the current version of CBM.

Re: Blood and Honey- new game for experienced players (recruiting)

All right then, welcome aboard Reverend Zombie.

I'm going to tentatively remove CyborgMonsterKiller until we hear from him.

mockingbird April 6th, 2012 01:30 PM

Re: Blood and Honey- new game for experienced players (recruiting)

Note that are a lot of bad starting positions on this map by default. Is there an improved version ou t there?

Valerius April 6th, 2012 02:06 PM

Re: Blood and Honey- new game for experienced players (recruiting)

Hi. We used a modified version of this map in the Battleground game. That version removed most water provinces and the eastern continent. That may not be what you want but LDiCesare did a nice job choosing fixed start locations on the main continent so you may want to take a look at that.

vargr April 6th, 2012 02:43 PM

Re: Blood and Honey- new game for experienced players (recruiting)

Actually I already made a list of provinces with less than 4 land neighbours from in the original (about 30 or so, several with only 2 neighbours). I have an edited map-file with #nostart for those. We could use it if we want to avoid poor resource starts - my Palankashas would vote for it! :)

Haven't touched the water provinces though, make a suggestion if we want to avoid some of them as a start for water nation.

Groundworm April 6th, 2012 04:55 PM

Re: Blood and Honey- new game for experienced players (recruiting)

I have no objection to using vargr's modified map with provinces that have few adjacencies being nostart provinces. I'm a little hesitant to use an edited version that has the entire eastern continent as #nostart, as that will make it a real knife fight on the main continent. mockingbird, as the only water nation thus far, do you have any thoughts on water province starting locations?

I'm also fine with changing the map, if that's a popular idea.

Also: 2 spots still open!

vargr April 6th, 2012 05:20 PM

Re: Blood and Honey- new game for experienced players (recruiting)

A lot of the water provinces look bad as a starting location to me. We could easily have Atlantis right next to a coastal start of another nation. Perhaps the area around the north-east islands would be the best?

mockingbird April 7th, 2012 05:00 PM

Re: Blood and Honey- new game for experienced players (recruiting)

I definitely am in favor of removing bad starting locations for Atlantis (as well as for all other nations). :)

Groundworm April 8th, 2012 10:31 AM

Re: Blood and Honey- new game for experienced players (recruiting)

It seems to me we have 2 issues: 1) a map with potentially poor starting positions and 2) seemingly no one interested in taking the last two open slots.

I think both of these problems are easily solved by changing the map to something smaller and better. Looking over options, I've selected 3 potential maps: Parganos, The Desert Eye, and Streamlands.

Of the three, I'm leaning towards Parganos.

Once we pick a map, we can start the game with the 8 of us.

Thoughts?

How about Allandra's Rest

http://z7.invisionfree.com/Dom3mods/...?showtopic=335

vargr April 8th, 2012 11:50 AM

Re: Blood and Honey- new game for experienced players (recruiting)

Allandra looks nice and from the map editor, it seems that the low resource provinces are already tagged as nostart in the original.
It would be 13 prov / land nation and there's 11 in the large sea.
Assuming we start with 7 + 1 players.

Hurmio April 8th, 2012 12:33 PM

Re: Blood and Honey- new game for experienced players (recruiting)

Nice map, i say we go with it.

mockingbird April 8th, 2012 12:50 PM

That map looks good, I agree.

Reverend Zombie April 8th, 2012 01:15 PM

Agreed.

Groundworm April 8th, 2012 01:39 PM

Re: Blood and Honey- new game for experienced players (recruiting)

Agreed, we have concensus. I'll put the game up within the next day or so and we can submit pretenders. Will post when I do so.

Re: Blood and Honey- new game for experienced players (recruiting)

Apologies for the delay. It seems that the map we've chosen is not on Llamaserver, and uploading the map from my computer is not as straightforward as it seems. Can anyone help uploading the map file to Llamaserver?

Reverend Zombie April 11th, 2012 11:14 AM

Re: Blood and Honey- new game for experienced players (recruiting)

I'm trying to upload the map now.

Reverend Zombie April 11th, 2012 11:25 AM

Re: Blood and Honey- new game for experienced players (recruiting)

Map is on Llamaserver now; however, it had to be renamed to Allandra's_Rest, because of the no-space rule, so I think we will need to download the version that is on the llamaserver.

mockingbird April 11th, 2012 01:19 PM

Re: Blood and Honey- new game for experienced players (recruiting)

The map doesn't have a download link on llamaserver.

Reverend Zombie April 11th, 2012 01:44 PM

Re: Blood and Honey- new game for experienced players (recruiting)

I must have screwed something up when renaming the map files. I've PM'ed Llama for assistance.

I think that if everyone downloads the attached files, and the game is started on the Llamaserver using the version of the map without the apostrophe in the name, we should be good to go.

Groundworm April 12th, 2012 03:27 PM

Re: Blood and Honey- new game for experienced players (recruiting)

Thanks for the help, Reverend Zombie. The game is now up on Llamaserver, download your pretenders and we'll start once everyone is in.

Good luck!

Re: Blood and Honey- new game for experienced players (recruiting)

I'd join with Helheim.

Groundworm April 13th, 2012 01:01 AM

Re: Blood and Honey- new game for experienced players (recruiting)

All right, I think the map is large enough to support 8 land + 1 water nation. Welcome aboard, Ossa!

Still waiting on Lanka, C'tis, and Helheim. Get your gods in gear!

I haven't had enough time to test my Lanka plans, seems I'm too addicted to good scales to give them a proper bless. Is it too late to switch to Niefelheim? I could upload the pretender rigth away..

vargr April 13th, 2012 10:24 PM

Re: Blood and Honey- new game for experienced players (submit pretenders)

Nevermind, Lanka pretender is in.

Reverend Zombie April 14th, 2012 12:39 AM

Re: Blood and Honey- new game for experienced players (submit pretenders)

I recommend everyone play with the "neighbors" map filter ON. Adjacencies, at least in mountains, aren't necessarily intuitive.

Re: Blood and Honey- new game for experienced players (submit pretenders)

My capital, as well as my only other fort, have been under siege for 3 turns now. My armies have been destroyed. About half of my provinces have been taken.

My intent is to set myself AI next turn. I'm looking for someone to take over admin responsibilities for this game.

Thanks.

Reverend Zombie April 23rd, 2012 01:32 PM

Re: Blood and Honey- new game for experienced players (running)

I have an upcoming vacation with uncertain internet access, and was going to request a pause in hosting from 4/26 to 5/1. But since you're looking to hand off the admin duties, I'd be happy to oblige and take care of the pause myself if you haven't already had someone step up :)

Assuming of course there are no objections raised by the other players.

Hurmio April 24th, 2012 08:09 AM

Sounds good to me.

Thanks, Reverend. I'll PM you the admin info.

Good luck to the rest of you, and thanks for the game. Oh, and well done, Ossa!

I've taken over admin duties; turn hosting is paused through 5/1.

Let it be known that Reverend Zombie is not a honorable leader! An army of his was caught sneaking on our lands before our NAP had run its course. All be warned not to sign any treaties with this black hearted renegade!

Also, i somehow managed to stale my turn. I thought i had sent a file, but apparently not.

Hurmio had given notice he was cancelling our NAP, for his own selfish and warlike purposes. As any prudent leader would, I sent my scouts to into Pangaean territory; regrettably, one of my overzealous bandit leaders misinterpreted my orders, and took with him a group of his companions.

I disavow all knowledge of this bandit's actions, and he has been reprimanded accordingly.

mockingbird May 4th, 2012 04:53 PM

Re: Blood and Honey- new game for experienced players (running)

This is supposed to be a binding diplomacy game. As such, I think the expectation is that the players should be not be trying to stretch or subvert their diplomatic agreements, including the termination of NAPs.

I didn't join this game specifically because of that aspect, nor do I particularly care if the players as a group want to ditch that clause, but it was part of the initial conditions upon which we all agreed.

Re: Blood and Honey- new game for experienced players (running)

Yeah, a group of skulking raiders intercepted en route to some unspecified target? This might be grounds for reparation negotiations, but since the deal was dying anyway and no overt attack was made, Ill Will has lost interest. :p
