Defeating the AI is easy. Really it is.
"The Province contains about 110 hostile units. The army consists of mainly Spring Hawks, Dire Wolves, Fire Snakes, and Dispossessed Spirits."
So if you do *not* have a Ring of Tamed Lightning handy for your SCs, how would you defeat a force like this? And if you do, which do you give up, the pendant of luck that slows down chaff eating him, or the amulet of antimagic that keeps AI D2 mages from blasting him with Disintegrate? |

I'm not eager to give up the breastplate -- Bone Armor does a good job of keeping my Poison Golems alive...
OK, let me just spell out what I'm working with: Poison Golem with Bone Armor, Vine Shield, Fire Brand, Pendant of Luck, Amulet of Antimagic, Boots of Quickness, and Gore Helm. The gore helm is the only item I can easily replace, but I don't know of any other helmet that would help here much. The Copper Plate would keep him from getting fried, true, but then he's vulnerable to being eaten by squads of knights or other troops with a good attack. I guess the only practical answer is to crush the AI before his armies get that large :) |
Re: Defeating the AI is easy. Really it is.
Never liked poison golems. Get mechanical giant instead. Or a tarrasque.

Does it have to be an SC? Try heavy troops.

Re: Defeating the AI is easy. Really it is.
Try to hold with your golem in the back. Disintegrate have relatively short range and the enemy d2 mages will just default to skelly spam if they can not find a target. You cant beat that many spring hawks without lightning resistance though. Mainly due to the fatigue attacks.
If you have a copper plate then that is a fine option as the golem already have good protection and neither hawks, nor fire snakes can do much vs something that is immune to their respective elements. |
Re: Defeating the AI is easy. Really it is.
replace the bone armor with the copper plate.
replace the brand and shield with a standard of the damned. script: cast spells |
Re: Defeating the AI is easy. Really it is.
remotely assassinate the leaders in the province.

I'll add that if he goes that way, he should also replace his Gore Helmet for a Starshine Skullcap. |
Re: Defeating the AI is easy. Really it is.
You can also do the standard of damned thing with jade armour and sandals of the crane, your golem will teleport away from melee every turn and snipe from safety. This is useful against elite units that could otherwise kill the golem faster than it heals.

Re: Defeating the AI is easy. Really it is.
So what do you do if your opponents are immune to life drain? (Undead, high mr). Lightning resistance would keep him from getting killed by a mixed seasonal spirit/undead force, but I don't see how it'd do any damage.
I guess that's why the styg wings are so popular? |
Re: Defeating the AI is easy. Really it is.
Hmmm, starshine cap is +2 MR... better than nothing, I suppose, if I replace a misc with the ring for whichever seasonal spirit is causing me pain (air/cold/fire). 21MR isn't great, but should hold up against most AI mages.
