Some Questions from a New Player

Can I get my tanks to go hull down?

Can I get my troops to dig in during meeting engagements?

Hull down is determined internally by the game engine - it is usually given to targets that are higher than the firer, or that are dug in.

No. Digging in takes hours of work even in easy soil. Games are rarely over 60 turns long.

Is there a way to speed up or minimize the firing animations?

My computer is slow and sometimes the computer turns take 30 minutes or more to resolve a single turn.

Go to the main game preferences screen and turn the Animation Level control down and if that is still too slow , turn animations OFF on the same screen

I've noticed that all the buildings on my map are at the same or lower elevation than the terrain they are sitting on.

Is this intended and working as designed?

That's been normal since SP was first released

My 150mm infantry guns have on several occasions fired into a hex and destroyed an enemy unit in an adjacent hex. But the 150mm gun does not get credit for the kill. Why is that?

Also, do antiaircraft guns get credit for destroying aircraft?

What is the maximum number of units a player can have?

What is the maximum number of formations a player can have?

If you are going to ask multiple questions - something that gets to be a pain when end users produce a complete laundry list - then at least please number your questions so that the answers can be easier to match up to.

1) The killing unit gets the kill credit. If several units were firing then it may not have been the unit you thought it was. Check all the units that fired (including off map batteries).

2) yes, just another kill marker.

Game Options-> Help Tab-> Read the Game Manual button to launch the Game Guide.

Once in the Game Guide, click on the Release History link

Once in that section, your query is answered in What was New for DOS Version 3.0 bullet #3.

The release history is a listing of the changes made for all versions in reverse version order.

Cheers

The mouse over will only report ground height.

Cover height has never been reported to the end user - vegetations, trees, buildings etc. all have an additional "cover" height that works to block LOS, and a density value that affects how LOS penetrates the cover.

However, the effects of cover can easily be seen by generating a visibility scan from a unit. The buildings (ground level 10) will block LOS as will trees at a nominal 10 GL, but plain ground of level 10 will let LOS through.
