Long waiting turns.
I play the German long campaign and while defending against the Poles waiting time is about 10-15 min at least the first turns, then later it seems more normal. Is this how it's supposed to be or not? I have tried removing the Animation button and lowering Animation level to zero, but to no vain as I saw in a recent thread. Any ideas?

Re: Long waiting turns.
So your saying at the start of the game when you cant see anyone (& animations hence make no diffrence) its taking a while. This makes me ask how big is the battle & how long did it take you to do your turn. Perhaps the waiting time went down later because the AI had less units to think about, it tends to buy infantry for Poles so lots of units.

Re: Long waiting turns.
This sometimes happens for "spam armies" like poland, early russia, china, italy etc. Their units are so bad that they can get a lot of them, making ai turns last longer.

Re: Long waiting turns.
Aha ok so it's just a matter of that the a lot of units, and I just have to be patient while playing these nations.

Also - if you have a slow PC then avoid using the "shotgun" pattern V-hexes against the AI since that makes the pathing for each and every unit about 7 times as much effort as against the stock 3 clusters of 7. (Game options, misc tab, set use shotgun% to 0, or in the initial set-up use the view map button (purchase screen where you get the option to buy your supports, in the cluster just above the EXIT button), then press the change V-hex button till you see a set of 3 clusters happen). As well - ensure that fast artillery is set on, otherwise you will have to watch each and every individual shell of his massive barrages be individually animated. (In game, preferences screen, Fast Artillery = ON ). Then you will simply get a battery by battery animation. Andy |
Re: Long waiting turns.
I have Fast Artillery on. Also I avoid the shotgun pattern, I guess that it's just a matter of a slow computer and the AI buying alot of cheap units. The waiting turns are alot faster when the AI:s units is alot fewer.

Re: Long waiting turns.
Do the sensible thing watch his arty fall as it doesnt show in replays then go & do your mail get a beer or something & watch the replay.

Re: Long waiting turns.
..........OR
....avoid really large games until you get a new computer. GENERALLY this is not an issue for most but to really judge the problem we would need to know how many units and formations are in your force and what your computer specs are Don |

My specs are, and I know it's probably an old computer:

Re: Long waiting turns.
From what I can see your computer is twice as fast as mine and I don't have the trouble you say you do with long waits for the AI so I'm thinking that perhaps you are trying to run other things at the same time as the game ??
What version of the game are you running ? Don |

You could upload a turn with the amount of time you had to wait for the replay to complete. I'd be willing to download it and tell you how long my PC takes to replay the Polish turn. Cross |
Re: Long waiting turns.
A really cheap mod that will speed it up would be to add more memory if you can still get hold of it. Old machines cant take most memory used now but I upgraded 2 by using a firm on the internet & emailing them to ask if they had it as it was not listed. They found some & gave me it free just charging for delivery.
It is important to make sure you get the right stuff that your motherboard will take & you are probably restricted to 2GB or even 1GB (I am ignoring the extra 36mb) so 2 or 4 x as much memory. Its dead easy to fit just unplug open it up & press it into the slot, possibly pulling the old one out first & replacing. If its not seated correctly when your done computer will not boot so just reseat it. This wont cause any harm, While you are putting the memory in to avoid damage its very important you ground yourself, hold a radiator or something or better still attach yourself to it with a bit of wire |
Re: Long waiting turns.
You're probably right, I just think I have to much stuff on my computer. The problem isn't really that big with waiting turns. It only seems to occur when meeting alot of enemy units. I have the 5.0 patch installed.

Re: Long waiting turns.
I have had this issue but its just the large armies youre dealing with. Go wash dishes and clean up the kitchen while they are fighting.
|
Re: Long waiting turns.
Try turning off all programs, except the game, and play with smaller forces, say a coy size and build up from there.
|
Re: Long waiting turns.
It´s while they`re fighting that can take forever it almost as the game freezes and then starts again while it's the AI:s turn. But I guess it's just a matter of the enemy moving alot of troops that I can't see. I try to do someting else and just be patient.

Re: Long waiting turns.
Early on, i had some trouble with the frustrating game freezes, that could be devastating when you click to move a unit and it stalls, click some others, but then first one you clicked moves right where you don't want it to arrg!,,but that was discovered to be when hidden programs were running, like upgrades and scans and such.
Also,, i don't play huge conflicts anymore either,it's all about what your computer can handle, these SP games are not all too complex, unless you make them that way. |
