I don't know if I'm salty enough, but I'd be interested in giving it a go as TC... if you want someone with more wins under their belt, then that's cool too and I can get in another game ;)

Re: Gentlemen's struggle - Intermediate & vets - RECRUITING

oh- noticing graphs are off.

i have played both (with and without) recently and in a no diplo game it makes sense to leave them on- then people will be naturally inclined to informally cooperate against the leaders and i think thats okay...

anyway- you wrote 'all settings can be discussed' so i am discussing.

mockingbird August 1st, 2012 06:55 PM

Re: Gentlemen's struggle - Intermediate & vets - RECRUITING

Actually, I think I'm going to bow out of this one. Things are getting (even more) complicated in my other games.

However, I'll say that I recommend graphs on in a no diplomacy game. Otherwise it's just too easy for one nation to run away with the game before anyone else realizes what is happing.

AAh come on mockin' stay with us !

Im fine with graph ON so let it be.

The player list is updated, sorry for those who are not in, but you seems to lack of MP experience. Tell me if i m wrong.

I'm planning to start the game tomorrow or Saturday, so you can start working on your pretender :)

Re: Gentlemen's struggle - Intermediate & vets - RECRUITING

I ve set the new unofficial CBM who seems to become quite popular, and sounds more balanced to me. But like other settings it can be discussed.

Also, does anyone know if i have to render the mod streamers and standards mandatory if i want to play with it? Or since it doesn't interfere with the game of other players i don't even have to mention it in the mod list ?

Hi Bullock. I have played 4 games in this forum and over 10 privated games. I'm sure I have enough MP exp of dom3. I promise I will not stale or AI during this game, and try my best to play.

Please let me in.

No, you don't have to make it mandatory. You could just copy/paste all the #selectnation commands from SNS into your copy of CBM and you'd see those flags even though the mod isn't selected for the game. Alternatively, if you did have Streamers and Standards selected players who don't like those flags can remove the #selectnation commands from their version of the mod so it will basically be an empty mod and they will see the original flags. Note that in the latter case you could have problems in a multi-era game, which is where SNS is most useful, so you'll want to keep a copy of the original SNS mod. Because of that potential hassle, it would probably be easiest for you to edit your copy of CBM, Bullock. An added bonus is that you'll see the SNS banners even in games where the organizer hasn't selected SNS.

Its worth noting that the game has been set-up on the server and is available here:

I will upload my pretender tonight. I have to consider the implications of the changed summon costs.

Re: Gentlemen's struggle - Intermediate & vets - game's up for pretenders

In my tests I have noticed that province 6, which has only two neighbors, is available as a starting location.

It might be nice to fix the map so that there are not terrible start locations.

i'm using the latest version on llamaserver (the error might be there too though). My file was prolly quite old, but only the picture matter.

Just a warning: I am starting my holiday next Saturday morning, and will travel to France. I will try to get an internet stick for my laptop there ASAP, but I might not be able to do so on Sunday. I should be able to get internet by Monday, latest.

Re: Gentlemen's struggle - Intermediate & vets - game's up for pretenders

KeithZ you've been the last to play for the 3 first turns. Do you mind playing 2 turns in a row when u r the last to play, at least while the turns take less than 5 min to play.

mockingbird August 13th, 2012 11:02 AM

Re: Gentlemen's struggle - Intermediate & vets - game's up for pretenders

I have received a diplomatic message from another player. My understanding was that this was to be a no diplomacy game.

How would we like to handle this?

In other no diplomacy games I have participated, this has generally resulted in the expulsion of the violator and either a restart or player substitution.

Austen August 13th, 2012 11:23 AM

Re: Gentlemen's struggle - Intermediate & vets - game's up for pretenders

It wasn't me (at least I don't think it was :P ) but I completely forgot this was a no diplo game... I would think there's a fair chance the player who did send the message did the same. This early on, I think a warning and a reminder in game and here on the forums might be a good way to go.

Immaculate August 13th, 2012 11:48 AM

Re: Gentlemen's struggle - Intermediate & vets - game's up for pretenders

I did send a diplo message, having forgotten it was a no diplo game, but not to mockingbird- (it was to Bullock- i am pretty sure). I just realized that this was in violation of the spirit and set-up of the game. In my case i just asked him whats up. He has not answered so presumably he at least remembered that it was a no diplo game.

I am very sorry for having done so... in my case it definitely does not change anything. Hopefully you don't need to substitute me. it was an honest mistake with no harm done i believe.

Hopefully in your case, MB, it doesn't change anything either? Assuming its not a ton of intel it shouldn't change things too much...? MB, do you feel a substitution is required? or can we just say 'Don't do it again' and move on?

mockingbird August 13th, 2012 01:26 PM

Re: Gentlemen's struggle - Intermediate & vets - game's up for pretenders

I don't think the message was game breaking in its content. A warning should be sufficient for now, especially for players who have not participated in no diplomacy games before.

I thought that all the participants should know that some game administrators can be very strict about such things. It's a good idea to pay close attention to the game rules before you join.

If I recall correctly, the player in question has tried to use diplomacy in a no diplomacy game at least once before and should know better. Let's all please try to keep to the "gentleman's spirit" (as sexist as it is :) ) of the game.

Re: Gentlemen's struggle - Intermediate & vets - game's up for pretenders

Back in my days of Dominions 2, there was a player that called himself Norfleet. He used to win all the tournements, and was actually a brilliant player. One day, his armies were stomping everyone on the battlefield, and we chalked it up to his brilliance. The game administrator inspected his account and found he had over a thousand of every gem...ect....

Don't know my point exactly, but I guess reading these comments above made me think of real cheaters, and good game administration. In the end, we're all just a bunch of guys (and gals) playing a game together. Or at least, you guys are playing. I'm just reading and commenting...

Bullock August 13th, 2012 05:28 PM

Re: Gentlemen's struggle - Intermediate & vets - game's up for pretenders

Well i think a restart or an expulsion is pretty harsh, since i'm pretty sure this gentleman didn't notice or forgot this particular rule.

However i'll listen to the majority on the subject.

Thanks for your honesty Mockin'

Re: Gentlemen's struggle - Intermediate & vets - game's up for pretenders

It wasnt me this time, was it ;) ?

I'll have to copy those files to a "nodiplo" directory again. Just in case.

Bullock August 15th, 2012 05:25 AM

Re: Gentlemen's struggle - Intermediate & vets - game's up for pretenders

Well, i'm already dead and will turn my nation AI this turn.

I had my worst starting position, only 2 neighboring provinces (one of them with strong indis)and in a middle of a swamp. Finally himselfbh have sent troops through the sea to siege my cap turn4, cutting the retreat path of my army who has failed against the strong indis, suiciding himself and finishing me at the same time.

This move sounds really noobish to me, you are prolly the next to die after me since you didn't expand .I don't see the point of throwing the game this way, especially since i wasn't even a direct threat to your nation.

Anyway, i'll continue my admin duties unless some1 wants to take the hand on it.

himselfbh August 15th, 2012 11:01 AM

Re: Gentlemen's struggle - Intermediate & vets - (running)

In fact my starting position is just as bad as yours, maybe even worse, only 2 neighboring provinces and both of them seems stronger than your 25pd(with low income..), and that's why I haven't expended yet... At this time I saw your candle on the sea province, so I decided to have a try.

I don't know if you cast Wayward star or just because of my bad luck, something really bad happened in my capital just after I attacked you, or things should be going very well know. And then I can take your provinces and the indies should keep my capital safe for at least one year...

Anyway, I have never played like this before, if I have done sth wrong making this game unpleasant, I apologize. Please forgive my noobish...

I don't think this is accurate... in fact, misfortune is one of the main negative scales that I see experienced player use in CBM. It does have to be considered/managed. It's not just "Free points".

True, you can have truly catastrophic events, but you can get that without Mis-2. In the realm of "random things in Dom 3 that wreck games for me", in game events are well down on the list.

Thank you for the advice. I don't know why but bad events happened in my capital exactly every single turn since turn4. And that keep my income below than about 300 per turn...At the time I reached TS, I could not even afford just one a3 mage to cast it...and I think it's the time to gg, good luck to you all.
