do you guys think...
the next dominions patch will actually be compatible with dominions?
|
Re: do you guys think...
The patch was fine with Dominions. :)
What you are asking is, will it be compatible with Windows. And not only that but with 2 out of 8 versions of Windows that it seemed to have a problem with. And actually its even compatible with those so what you want to know is if the next patch will work with the security protections of those 2 versions of windows. Getting a Linux game to run on a Windows machine is getting harder all the time. AND consider this... the next patch will likely be part of Desura's and Steam's auto-updater so that you will only know its been updated after it happens. So.... good question. |
Re: do you guys think...
gandy, it was more of a rhetorical question and an attempt at humor after struggling with my computer for about two hours...

Re: do you guys think...
I totally apologize.
I used to take everything that way. I really did. But I got razzed about it a lot. I got kindof trained out of it here. Now I tend to take things as a biting attack instead of a fun jab. Please, return to having a good time. |
Re: do you guys think...
well, the positive thing with my struggles vis a vis windows/dominions is that so many people(including you) have tried to help me.
so there is that... |
Re: do you guys think...
Oww sarcasm :D.
But yeah, it seems this patch causes a few problems. Sucks. Reinstalling the base game seems to work right? We could use a sticky which lists the problems and how to correctly install the game. (copying the mods and savegame dirs to safety before uninstalling). |
Re: do you guys think...
I put this in another thread but I'll will add here. I tried things like doing run as administrator and reinstalling to Program Files (x86) (those things I thought would work), but they did not.
Reinstalling to a Non-program files folder DID work. That might be the way to go. Just make sure you backup your saved games, mods and maps folders prior. I don't know what all the uninstall deletes. |
Re: do you guys think...
Dominions should always be installed in a non-Program Files folder on Windows Vista and newer. This has been stated in several threads.
|
Re: do you guys think...
Perhaps we could unsticky the site conversion topic, and add a new one that lists how to install and troubleshoot these problems.
|
Re: do you guys think...
I probably did not notice because it always worked prior so I didn't have a need and never stumbled on them. So for those like me I am stating it now if it worked before but not in this patch.

i had the same experience with dom working fine in the program folder, but not after patching. then i got to mucking around in my mod files trying to fix something that was not broken and made quite a mess. but soy's explanation helped me to fix all the problems i had made. give a man a fish/teach him to fish blah blah blah blah |

Re: do you guys think...
WARNING: this game is NOT suitable for students, interns, apprentices,or anyone else who is expected to pass tests on a regular basis. Do not think about Dominions strategys while operating heavy machinery. The demo has built-in protections which should not be bypassed. They are for your health as much as for monetary reasons. Do not begin on the full version without first making arrangements for someone to check on you daily. If you find that your game has continued for more than 36 hours straight then you should consult a physician immeadiately (Do NOT show him the game!)
Oh and now we need to add... DO NOT CONVERT THIS GAME TO A PHONE APP or it will be the end to all economic commerce as people will play it at work and be fired! |
