Function to pause enemy turn replay

Hi!

Sorry if this has been asked before or it is even possible already and I'm just too stupid to find out...

It would be nice to have a button/keyboard-key which can pause the enemy phase of the AI or the replay of an enemy PBEM-turn.

No problem if the running animation is continued but then it should stop and wait for me.

Especially with bigger battles I have problems with having time several minutes for watching...

Best Regards,
KAreil

You might try turning fast artillery "on",,if it still takes too long, then go for smaller battles with less arty bombards:)

Thanks for the reply.

I have "Fast artillery" ON and I don't mind if it still takes some minutes for the replay.

Maybe I wasn't that clear about my wish...English is not my native language...

My problem is that I need continous time in front of the screen to follow the enemy actions. It could be 3 minutes or 30 minutes, my problem is the "continous".

With family and all it's hard to explain why I can not go away for a minute to help the girlfriend,...

For the family I'm just sitting in front of the screen watching some "movie"

So I would really appreciate to have such a Pause-button.

She: "Can you give me a hand?"
I: "No problem". *Hitting the Pause-button*
...
*being away for a short time*
...
I: *Hitting the Pause-button again and continuing with the replay*

The trouble is you can abuse that to get to much info, must admit as I use fast arty in big battles some sort of marker would be handy as I tend to forget or even have no idea where some of it lands.
Try speeding up your settings so the game plays faster, bottom 2 settings on misc tab

Re: Function to pause enemy turn replay

How would that give me more information?
I would see the same with very slow game settings.

WISH:
When I press the magic button, it finishes it's actual animation and then freezes until the button is pressed again.

It should not be possible to do anything (scrolling around, getting more hex-information,...)

Your english is fine and point is clear, let me clarify,
IF you have real life issues and don't have time, then you should just play smaller battles.
If you need to play those humongus attention needed war games, then you should reserve a quiet time for it,

God knows we all get distracted,i get it also when playing a PBEM battle my 8 yo distracts me and opps!sucks b/c you cannot take back a mistake.
I've decided awhile back to scale back my battles to fit my life.
The pause is already there, you just can save for later.
It would nice to have that pause button for replay but is not much an issue.

Thanks for the replies.
I completely agree with you gila.

It is also no big issue for me, certainly no game-breaker.

Just wanted to ask and if it is easy to implement maybe it will be done at some point.

Thanks and best regards,
KAreil

It may be possible to put a pause into the replay at some future date.

I'll put it on the list to look at after this year's update (the replay code is not the nicest tangle of spaghetti to get tied up in !)

Cheers

Re: Function to pause enemy turn replay

What I do alot when i am busy and may not able to finish a turn,is to watch the replay, play the turn partially save or just complete it if possible, if there is complicated manuevers involved or the ambient distractions in the background, just simply save and get back when you can review the replay and finish your turn,
In full security the other player only sees that you may have saved but as long as you don't reload the files there will be no security foulups.

I think that's a good idea. SPWaW offers it by alt-tabbing out of the game.
And if you worry about to much intelligence about enemy please keep in mind that nothing prevents me from watching his last turn over and over.|
One of the advantages of turn based games is that I can easily dictate it's pace.

Just giving this a small bump for consideration in the next patch.

Another use for such a pause-function is for writing AARs. It would really be useful to just pause and take some notes instead of having to watch the replay several times.

Actually just for this very purpose I use a lightweight free program called "Screenshot Captor" that lets you press Printscreen multiple times and it will automatically store/save those multiple screenshots without you needing to go away from the game.

When I need to review that turn for writing AAR I just need to look at the pictures, and immediately I can remember all the details about that turn.

I do something similar on occasion.
I use IRFANVIEW (graphics viewer) for the multiple saved screenshots, it's free, and it's also one of the few graphics utilities that can view LBM (SPWW2 picture) files.

It's back on the list to investigate

Not in front of my computer but does minimising the window not pause it till the window is restored?
Minimise to taskbar & reopen as a simple fix.

I have tried pushing the "p" key. This brings up the preferences screen which acts as a defacto pause button. this seems to have no ill effects apart from some scrambled text on right hand top of screen. To resume play press the exit button on the pref. screen. Works in both games.

Regards, Warwick.
