Want to see what a multiplayer game is like?

Do you want to see what a multiplayer game is like? But you dont want to look foolish or have to explain your choices? You just want to check it out and look?

Well here is your chance. We need a substitute player in the newbie-newbie game "Stacked in your Favor". The nation is Middle Age Vanheim. It is still early game and you do not seem to have any contact yet with neighbors.

The bad news is.... even though the game was posted as not using any mod files, it seems that the this player created their pretender god with some mod turned on. So to the game it looked as if that player had cheated. The game downgraded the pretender to a mounted Arch Mage with no magic, but he did still get his scales.

The good news is.... you have ready-made excuses if you play badly. You can play without concern for your ego. Go wild. Be a surprise. Have fun. No matter what you do it will be better than us having to turn the Vanheim nation into an AI player.

Shouldn't this be in the MP forum?

Re: Want to see what a multiplayer game is like?

I thought about that.
But Im purposely seeking someone who has not yet quite decided to play in MP games, but is abit curious about it.

I should add that if anyone is interested in this, if you email gandalf at community.net then I can give you the address and password to get in and start playing Vanheim

OK we are back again.

Apparently MA Vanheim and MA Ulm have both staled 3 times in a row.

So if anyone is interested in seeing what an MP game is like without having to worry about whether or not you do it well. :)

email gandalf at the community net

I tried clicking on your link, but I got error "Could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed."

I think this is because I have a PC, everyone with Macs says they just work. Never mind.

OK just letting everyone know that we have our two subs.

That went nice and fast. And Im pleased to have gotten a couple of on-the-fence people to try MP. :)

Actually, this error occurs because you have no default mail client installed. PC vs Mac has nothing to do with it.

Jon, once you do get your client working, also notice he gave two different email addresses, so double check which one is the correct one, the second one is missing "the" after the @.

Re: Want to see what a multiplayer game is like?

If I bought a new PC, with better specs & faster, do you think this problem would go away? Everyone says you need to update your PC regularly, perhaps mine (about 3 years old, I think) can't do this sort of thing? Or, friends with Macs say, they just don't get "Can't perform operation" or "no default mail client" type of error messages which I get?

Gandalf Parker February 25th, 2013 05:07 PM

Re: Want to see what a multiplayer game is like?

Those messages just mean that the Windows machine has not yet been "taught". If you click that link in your browser and get that message it means that your browser (whichever one it is) has not yet been told where to find your email program (whichever one it is). Just go into the settings and tell it where your email program is, and it will work next time.

A Mac does not have that problem because it has much fewer options and they are all more integrated to each other than Windows is.

Which one of them you want to use depends on what you want. Mac just works without much setup. Windows has many more options for everything so for things to work together you need to understand more about how to tell it. Linux has way way more ways of doing everything so of the 3 I would consider it to be the least "back off and I will take care of it for you" operating system.
IMHO

Jon, you could do this with a computer from the 1980s with a modem from the 1950s.

Make yourself a gmail account and rock and roll.

Heehee. Not yet.
Illwinters newer game Conquest of Elysium 3 can run on a Raspberry Pi.
Johan says if there is interest then he might be willing to backport Dominions 3.

If that is what you have, you can run email on it just like anything else. I was able to check my email on mine before I switched over to XBMC. May be able to do it now as well, haven't had time to really explore the plugins.

Re: Want to see what a multiplayer game is like?

OK 2 of the 9 players in the game Stacked in your Favor have requested a restart.
At the suggestion of the moderators and expert players on Desura as of now this game will be RESTARTED.
For clarity we will no longer refer to the game as very casual or newbie since we were not specfic about what those meant.

All players who do not have a login on the official Dominions 3 forum at Desura, and do not announce themselves in that thread will not be allowed to play.
http://www.desura.com/games/dominion...yers-join-now/

The restarted game will be called StackedUp and will be on a different port.

Re: Want to see what a multiplayer game is like?

Jon did you want to continue playing in that game?
So far it seems like there is more interest in continuing the old one than in the restart. Both are running but if the old one continues I will probably have to create a thread for it here (in the MP area).

No, that is not what I mean. All your statements together just triggered my 'the dude is trolling' buttons.

Hi GP. I'm not sure why, but I've submitted another turn a while back; if it continues I may do same just OOI to see how it progresses, I'm happy whether you continue it or cease it!

Re: Want to see what a multiplayer game is like?

Yeah Jon that seems to be the way it is going. So far two groups. A couple had complaints and asked for a restart but apparently are not going to play in it. So far only one person has joined the restart.

The rest complained mostly about the thread. So I think we will leave the original game running in the "very casual" form it was set up in. If I start a new thread for it I will email you the address.

Gandalf Parker February 28th, 2013 03:07 PM

Re: Want to see what a multiplayer game is like?

To the people who complained more about the thread and that the "Stacked in your Favor" game was starting to become not as casual as you thought when you joined:
Please be patient with the new moderators at the new forum. They are still ironing out the things they will require for a game to be run there.

You can see that in our little game thread where many things were ironed out that are not present in the other games on that forum. They were not picking on us alone. The changes discussed with us are now appearing in the official game template to define things for future games there.

At present I am still considering another fun game variant. This time for higher level players. Possibly a "Civil War" variation where everyone plays Ulm and it comes down to only who has the better strategy. Or maybe a "Musical Chairs" game. Or both
