Beta Testers Needed!

Announcing: An All New Beta Test!

Shrapnel Games will be starting a New Beta Test very soon and we need testers! If you have the time to test, are familiar with beta testing, and like Rogue-like Space Strategy Games please let us know you are interested by responding to this thread. Only serious testers need to apply.

When responding, let us know if you have ever beta tested before and how many hours a week you can test. The beta test is expected to last 2 weeks minimum, and as long as it takes to get the game ready for release.

Additional Info: Please edit you responses if you have already posted (preferable method) or add a post and give us your system specs. We were going to ask this in a PM, but the number of responses after less than 24 hours makes us rethink that decision. Also, please take seriously our request for testers. This is not an open beta, a limited number of testers will be selected and we need serious testers. Thanks everyone -- you're great!

Re: Beta Testers Needed!

Hi,

I'd be interested in testing. I'm used to working on games (translation), sometimes at an early stage, and I've already tested AGS point-and-click games.
I should be able to dedicate about 8 to 10 hours a week on it, barring any big work project coming in in the meantime.

Re: Beta Testers Needed!

I have Beta tested many games and can spend at least8 hrs. a week play testing as I'm retired.
Thank you for your consideration.

Re: Beta Testers Needed!

Hi!

I've tested a couple of dozen games for Virtual Programming (makes Mac ports of Windows games), including quite a few strategy games (Paradox titles mostly). I'm also personally interested in both the rogue-like/space/and strategy genres and have played a lot of those games.

I've also done a fair bit of testing new software at work (not as fun as testing games though) so I'm pretty used to bugs and reporting

I could probably spend 10 hours or so a week testing.

As for hardware, I own a gaming desktop, a Microsoft Surface Pro 2 and a couple of Macs (and a few tablets).

Cheers,

Fredrik Andersson

Hi,

I would be interested in play testing. I was a beta tester for Space Empires IV and V, and (long, long ago) for The War Machine (originally sold by Shrapnel). I've also tested a number of sets of miniatures gaming rules.

Thanks,

John

I am interested in beta testing, I have beta tested several times before but am by no means experienced in it. I do however have a lot of time spare as I am unemployed.

Best regards,
Shaun.

Re: Beta Testers Needed!

I'd be interested. I was a beta tester for Unity of Command - Red Turn, Unity of Command - Black Turn, Germany at War - Barbarossa 1941 and Mark H. Walker's Lock and Load: Heroes of Stalingrad. Some of those were for Slitherine/Matrix, UoC took part directly through the 2by2 Games page, forums etc. .
I also tested (and reported bugs on) some games that were released in an early state of development, such as Gratuitous Space Battles and Infested Planet and Running With Rifles, although those weren't official beta tests, so I already have some experience. Not sure how it looks time-wise though.

I would be interested in beta testing. I have tested several games previously, and could spend 10-15 hours a week testing.

I would love to Beta Test Your new space game. I have Beta tested a few games in the past and can give roughly 2-3 hours a day to the test. I am also quite familiar with this genre of gaming.

Re: Beta Testers Needed!

I'm about to head off for two weeks of kayaking and hiking in Norway, and won't be returning home until July 20th. That said, if your test should last so long, or if it isn't beginning immediately, I'd be available and willing to help.

I've done closed and non-preorder beta testing before (Sword of the Stars: Born of Blood, Conquest of Champions, Ultima Online), as well as a countless number of open and pre-order "betas."

I'm a roguelike fan (I have Dungeon of Dredmor running as we speak, and in the last two weeks alone I've loaded up Dwarf Fortress, Dungeon Tiles, Dungeon of the Endless, and The Binding of Isaac. Weird Worlds of Infinite Space is one of the few space roguelike/lites I've played, though it has been some time.

If I am around in time for the test, I can likely contribute 10-15 hours a week for two or three weeks. Once the semester starts up again, I can't promise I'll have much time.

Hi there,

I used to be a game tester at Electronic Arts before becoming a software engineer in the games industry. Now I'm not in the games industry professionally any longer, but I still eat/sleep/breathe gaming and would love to help test.

I can devote roughly 10-15 hours a week if needed because my fiance lives out of the country right now!

Thanks,

- Jake

I would like to be considered as well. I have tested a couple games, but I am not what one would consider experienced at it.
I have played many games over the years and I could give a couple hours a day at it and likely a little more on the weekends.
Thanks for the mail and the offer no matter how it turns out.

Re: Beta Testers Needed!

Hi,

I've been alpha tester of WoWP and closed beta tester of WarThunder. I played lots of strategies, from WinSPWW2 to Battles in Normandy, War in the East, Crusader Kings, Hearts of Iron, Victoria etc. Obviously I also played 4X space games, like Endless Space is, for example. I'd like to beta test this new game (well if I don't have to pay for the beta right away :P ) and I should have a couple o' hours to spare per week for it.

Re: Beta Testers Needed!

Yes add me! I was a Beta Tester for Star Trek Birth of the Federation. Space Empire IV and V, and Star Fury.

Yes I am familiar! Play the game and look for bugs. Document the bug, and then report it. Also report on playability, improvements etc.

Thanks

I would like to included as a beta tester. I have never beta tested for anyone prior to this. I have approximately 25 hours available per week for beta testing.

Re: Beta Testers Needed!

Not entirely certain what you mean by "rogue-like" but it is my favorite RPG class by far! Let the fools use brute force!

I've been playing, testing, and designing war games and RPGs since the early 1970's and am currently retired so time I have in abundance. That being the case I've been beta testing various games (such as Wasteland 2) and have recently rebuilt an OOB for one of your other products (WinSPMBT).

I'm retired military with a BS in Comp Sci so have a good understanding for what's going on "behind the scenes" in games so can usually provide feed-back on "how" and "why" as well as "what".

Re: Beta Testers Needed!

Hi, Please add my name to the roll of Beta testers. I've been beta testing games for several years now following an accident in 2005 that left me unemployable. This means I have a lot of time on my hands, so can devote a good amount of time to beta testing when I have a game to test.

I started beta testing mods and maps for games like Battlefield 2 Battlefield 2142 (also Beta Tested the game for DICE) and Crysis. I did some beta testing for Codemasters (The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar), while working with several modders for those games. Then went on to beta test for several arcade and Indie developers such as Alawar Games (I beta tested around 15 games for them e.g. Strike Ball 3, Finding Doggy etc), 2DBoy (World of Goo) and Dejobaan Games (AaAAaaAAAa: A Reckless Disregard for Gravity) as well as a few others. I've signed up for several public Beta tests over the last few years, the last one being Elder Scrolls Online. At the moment I'm not involved in any beta testing, just spending my time playing my large collection of games (check my Steam profile - http://steamcommunity.com/id/Whiterabbit01/ ), I also write a game review each weekend for the Gamegiveawayoftheday project (they give away arcade games each weekend) as well as admin their forums and moderate the game site.

I will always submit a written report of any problems found and where appropriate include screen captures and video footage of the problems. I'll also add suggestions where applicable.

Regards

Whiterabbit aka Stephen

I would love to help with testing. I'm an active beta tester for a number of games as below:

Malevolence the Sword of Ahkranox
Siralim
Avorion

I'm also a huge fan of roguelikes so this has really got my interest.

Look forward to getting involved.

Lots of people on this list now! Would have been first but had to wait for the forum registration to go through.

Experience: last beta test was for Eador, not that that's a good recommendation - they ignored our pleas not to release.

Software developer of 30 years experience. Renowned (infamous) for breaking software.

Re: Beta Testers Needed!

I'd like to participate in the Beta test.

I've participated in many Betas, but two in which I've been particularly active (and even a casual browsing of the relevant forums/guides will prove it) were the ones for Fallen Enchantress and Drox Operative: Invasion of the Ancients. The latter is a space rogue-like.

I can commit to playing the game for at least 10 hours in the first two weeks, and to forward my comments. If I like what I see, I will keep it up until release.

I play on two different system with NVidia cards - 64 bit Windows 7 and 32 bit Windows XP SP3, and the hardware is pretty much the best money could buy in 2012 and 2008, respectively.

Sign me up Scotty,

25 yrs commputer/software field engineering (not programing)
IBM/Siemens/MCI

I love breaking(bug finding) new software, especially games since my Atari400 and Commodore64. Wow how things change.

Can only spend about 4 hrs/day but I am methodical in trying all possible variations per each specific option, and record each, when, where, how, if no dump is available.

Keep cranking em out Shrapnel, love your games.
