Have you ever noticed

Have you ever noticed that Aaron has never posted here? Has anyone ever seen a post by him here? Do you think he reads this forum? (Duh) http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Still wouldn't it be nice to see him post at least once?

You know what, we should all ask him to sign our Gold edition of SEIV before they are sent out. I personally would love to have an autographed copy of SEIV Gold from Aaron. Who else?

Me too. With a dedication, like: ... to a strategy freak, addicted to the gold-fever.

SE4 rules !

EDIT: I think Aaron does not post into this forum, member #2 is RICHARD, and if you do a search for member #1, you get nada. But I would like to be wrong, maybe he Posts undercover.

Maybe, maybe not http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

In at that thread in Rollo's post, we see that member #145 is Grifman. Gryphin, any relation?

Nice to see Phoenix-D back there in November 2000, too. I didn't realise that any of the currently active members dated back that far=-)

Ok, competition time: Of all the *currently active* members, who has
a- the lowest member number?
b- the oldest post in the SEIV forums?
c- the oldest post in *any* forum?
Answers posted here please, with links to any appropriate threads. First Place Winner will receive reverential respect and ageist remarks from the rest of us http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
(This competition is open to anyone, excluding employees of Shrapnel Games, because that's just cheating=-)

I know I'm a relative noob, but just for the record, my first post was about March/ April 2001. ("How Old Are You?" thread)

Re: Have you ever noticed

Well, the best I can do is January of 2001. I looked in the SEIV archive for 2000 and Puke is in there, a lot. My guess would be he is the oldest and most consistant of the regular posters. Hadrian had a post early on about his website ( I guess some things never change http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif ) so he would probably be in the running. And there are a few of the original beta testers, which Hadrian is one of. I am not sure how many of them still post though.

Member 1 is most likely the Forum Admin account.

Richard is #2 if I recall right.

Tim Brooks in #4 I think.

Who is number 3?

Re: Have you ever noticed

Ok, here'e the FIRST POST from the Space Empires IV thread. August 2000.

Things I noticed...

Even back then, Richard couldn't spell, and Tim loved ribbing him about it.

Master Bellisarious is the first poster name I recognize that doesn't work for Shrapnel. He posted before he even registered. Hadrian is the first registerd poster in that thread I recognize.

And even way back them people were kvetching about the shipping costs to Canada. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif Sheesh. Things never change do they? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

And PvK's member number 18 is going to be tough to beat. Obviously he was a Shrapnel regular before Space Empires became part of the fold.

An admirable gesture, but I wouldn't have worried too much - after all this forum is already bulging with self proffered Captains, Admirals and so on=-)

Do you think a knighthood means actually means something here in the UK then?

User number 3 is Mark Sterner, a guy who was around here in the early wargame days. He had 146 Posts and Last posted in July of 2000.

Actually he is still a regular on the cgOnline forums, just not here. He will be back once we get 82nd up and running http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif .

There are more forums (based on SE series) than just ShrapelGames ya'know... I remeber visiting some that are now long gone - gone just about the time SG's came Online. I'm sure there are others that remember them also - I still see their familiar handles..... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif

I think PvK wins the contest.
PvK has a post from 31 July 2000.
This was the first thread I could get my hands on.
http://www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin...&f=23&t=000001
And he just posted yesterday, so that makes him active. Wierd thing, though ... he posted 31 July 2000, and 28 Aug 2000, but then didn't post again until March 2001.

FWIW, my earliest post (also a topic) is from 19 Sept 2000.
http://www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin...3&t=000062&p=2

As long as we're bragging about silly things: I've posted in 200 different topics. Who can beat that?

Re: Have you ever noticed

Oops. Just looked again at geoschmo's link. He is correct, but doesn't know July from August. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif Hadrian's registered post and MB's unregistered post were dated 28 July, edging out PvK by 3 days.

User number 297 is "Malfador Machinations" this is probably Aaron. When you search for Posts by MM you only find a few. most of them get responses like "the gods have spoken" or other worshipping rituals like that.. :-)

Edit: just did a user rating for MM, 5 stars ofcourse :-)

dogscoff,
To me it is not a matter of what I think. It is a matter of how those people who feel they have earned the title think. Since this is a bit Off Topic, I'd be glad to explain further in the Gryphin Growltigga thread if you like.

Re: Have you ever noticed

Well I guess that answered my question. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Now all we need to do is get Aaron to autograph our copies of SEIV. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I have too date autographed game boxes for the following games.

Tribes
Tribes 2
Quake
Quake II
Quake III
Half Life
Birth Of The Federation

I would love SEIV to that collection.

I am also seeking autographs for SimCity I II III and III GOLD. Dark Forces I, II, and Expansion.

Hmmm... This gives me an idea.

What if we got/made a thank you card for Aaron and everyone signed it? After the initial person signs it, it gets mailed to the next person and so on, until we've got as many signatures as we can get. Of course everyone involved would have to agree to pay for postage to the next person on the list (possible problem for those overseas), but it could be do-able.

Next to giving money, it's the next best way to say "thanks for a great game, and for ruining my social life". http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Comments?

We all did give money. We bought the game, right? This way, we're doing both. As for the going overseas part, we could send it around one continent at a time, so at least only one person has to worry about that...

It's easy! Just open someone's profile, and change the xxxxxxxx in
code:

http://www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_profile;u=xxxxxxxx

to the number of the member whose profile you want to view (note that the number needs to be eight characters long - pad with zeros at the front). For example, Richard's profile's URL looks like http://www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin...ile;u=00000002 (member 2)
