Black Hole AI and strange music?

Hi all together!

A quick question - if it was mentioned before, please forgive me.

Will the AI in the SEIV Gold Version will handle those Black Holes better than in SEIV now? I have the feeling, if so, the enemies would be a lot more succesfull in kicking my a.. .

there is a very strange track with the SEIV music, that is going on my nervs. It is only noise! The solution is, to go into the simulator and play one round, after that you choose "stop combat", than go back onto the mainsurface and... you got a new track. Will this be possible in the gold Version, or will i be forced to hear this sh.. track all the time, as now?

Greetings to all

You can actually go into the settings file and remove that track from your games. Do you know which track it is? Is the CD bad/scratched? I don't really remember a crappy song on mine. Also, you can plug in your favorite music/mix CD and it will play tracks from that. I had made a mix CD of Babylon 5 music (from the series) and then editted the settings so it would only pick certain tracks for certain times of the game. No reason you couldn't do the same with your favorite music (a little Kenny G during those combat sequences should be good http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif )

Kenny G - hey!

Well, thanks a lot for your tips. I will use this "setting thing". But also try my own favourite music with Mediaplayer.

See you!

Kenny G and galactic domination just do not go together IMHO

How about some Enya?

enya and galactic strife and conquest is probably even worse!!!

I think you would probably need something like U2 or Sting or Afro Celt Sound System to capture the right ambience

I listen to Enigma. Works for me.

U2? I do hope you were joking along with me...

Val, I was joking.

Gryphin, I have this image of you playing SEIV singing along to the native yodelling bit in "Return to innocence" - LOLPMPROF and have a hernia!!!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Thank the prime builder, you had me seriously concerned for your well being there http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

I don't actually listen to any of them, when I was a Pre-School teacher we used those Groups at nap time to put the kids to sleep - if that says anything!

I do have to admit that I was dating a girl who had me listening to Brit and some of the boy bands - since I unwisely gave her control of the radio/CD player - but since breaking up I have recovered nicely http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Val, you were a pre-school teacher and dating a girl into Britney and boybands.

Hmmm, given that the average age of Britney and boyband fans is about 13.......

Can I just leave it at that?

PS we better move this conversation onto the G&G thread before Tesco Samoa points out it is off topic

In retrospect that didn't sound too good...

On the brighter side she was over 21 http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I say let TS come - see how long it takes http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Re: Black Hole AI and strange music?

yeah, it didn't sound so good but spot the lawyer always looking for the case,

as long as she was over 21 years and not 21 months, I am happy - given her music tastes, you were probably wise to get rid of her (unless she looked like britney of course)

tesco has thrown me off about 3 threads so I am running scared - talk about feeling like a social pariah, I am even scared to post on sensible threads when I trying to be sensible!!

quote:
I will use this "setting thing". But also try my own favourite music with Mediaplayer.

Technically, you don't need a separate player program. SE IV will play any music CD in the drive.

You can use Settings.txt to control which tracks get played on the intro screen, in the background during your turn, and during combat.

Val, I should point out that lawyers ALWAYS has a suitable response up their sleeves and ALWAYS have the Last word, even if it is only 'here is your bill' http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif

Thanks for the answers to my sound question!

But, to go back again, what is with the Ai and Black Holes? Does anybody know, if this will be fixed? If the Ai would handle those Black Holes a little bit smarter, the enemies would be a much more callenge!

Any answer would be very nice!

Von: I don't know if the AI is improved in Gold as far as Black holes go, but a lot of ppl here switch off black holes in vsAI games by altering the galaxy generation files.

As for music... How about some classical- all the tunes from 2001 films / Elite series of games...

I like "Ride of the Valkyies" in battle, except it always makes me think of that Bugs Bunny cartoon set at the Opera - "Kill da wabbit, Kill da wabbit" - and then I start laughing...

Re: Black Hole AI and strange music?

Finally someone mentioned Wagner as suitable combat music. I'd recommend Tchaikovsky, Berlioz, Bach, Bartok, Beethoven (especially Beethoven's 5th!), maybe Dvorak, Grieg, Orff, Rakhmaninov, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Shostakovich as other combat-suitable music. You could try Sousa for a more modern-sounding background too...

For other parts, I'd suggest Gershwin, Strauss, Copland, Herb Alpert... how's that for an eclectic mix? Ragtime, lounge, showtunes, and German waltzes (in no particular order, obviously). How can you go wrong?

You guys haven't lived until you start up the game to play a quick PBW turn, not realizing that your wife left her Patsy Cline CD in the drive. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif

Re: Black Hole AI and strange music?

I've been using a collection called "Classical Thunder", which includes most of the composers on Tsaarx' list. When I launch SE IV, the intro screen plays Strass' "Also sprach Zarathustra" (aka "Dawn" theme from _2001_). http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
