TDM Mod Pack 3.00 errors
Guys
Tried starting a Gold game with the new TDM Mod Pack 3.00 but got two errors: Could not find field "Race Opt 2 Characteristic 6 Type" in record Sergetti Could not find field "Race Opt 2 Characteristic 6 Amount" in record Sergetti I was not running any other mods. Restarted from scratch and got the same errors again. Elmo |

Under the TDM modfolder, in pictures\races\sergetti, open sergetti_AI_general.txt, and look for "Race Opt 2"
See if the Opt 2 Char 6 entry is spelt correctly. If it dosen't exist, go up and reduce the number of characteristics to 5. |

There are only 5 Characteristics for Opt 2, not 6.

Then, go and set the "opt 2 num characteristics" line to be 5 instead of 6, and it should work.
Opt 2 is for 3,000 racial point games, which are not very common, so it is possible that that setting was never tested. |

OK, thanks. I only play 2000 point games so I'm surprised it came up as an error.

Not very common? What are you talking about? I've been in ~20 PBW games, and only 4 weren't 3000 point games. |

No, what happened is that when we test the races. We typically use the "Add empires" option to add all of the TDM races manually to each game. When you add races this way, you do not need the AI_General file. The only way to test the AI_General file is for the game to randomly add that particular race to a game.

OK, I see the actual problem. Here is what Op 2 Characteristic 6 looks like: Race Opt 3 Characteristic 6 Type := Political Savvy Race Opt 3 Characteristic 6 Amount := 50 Note that it is incorrectly listed as Op 3. So the fix is to change the 3's to 2's. There are actually 8 Characteristics so you don't want to change Op 2 Num Characteristics to 5. Elmo [ 08 March 2002: Message edited by: Elmo ]</p> |

Ok, since I don't know exactly when will the next Version of TDM Modpack be released, I have posted a quick-fix file to correct this error (its in the "New Scenario/Mod forum - New Scenario/Mod Forum ).

I see a problem with the Krill, and I am completely in a mist about this, I cannot find the root cause:
Ai Design Creation Errors: c:\programme\shrapnel games\malfador machinations\space empires iv - Unknown value "Kamikaze" for Default Strategy in record "Kamikaze Attack Ship". The curious issue about it, under ...\malfador machinations I have got two folders, the one mentioned above "space empires iv" and another one "space empires iv gold", why does the program look into the non-gold folder (this has been installed by the gold CD, it is not the old one)? |

I have got a problem to find the corrupted file. Under ...\space empires iv (this seems to be a kind of forgotten to be deleted path from the gold CD) is not much to find. And under the Gold folder and TDM folder, every default_ai_strategy.txt has entries like:
Name := Kamikaze Primary Movement Strategy := Ram Secondary Movement Strategy := Point Blank ... The name of a strategy is fully customizable, AFAIK. EDIT: The problem just appears with the Krill turns, about 80% of their turns. [ 14 March 2002: Message edited by: PsychoTechFreak ]</p> |

Minesweeper or some such). Look at the design and maybe the "don't get hurt" will make sense. Some modders use Kamikaze ships and boarding ships to make mixed fleets and include support ships in their fleets. Rollo |

The Krill were my Oops, missed it in both the Version on the CD and the update for them I posted with the Orks (same oops with them). I forgot to add the Kamikaze stratagy in the .emp files, did a quick change to call for Ram instead and added the file to the Krill_Ork update post in the races area.
BTW - it was the defense ship that had the Kamikaze strategy, use the Kamikaze ships for something else. |

The .emp file can just be edited when I start with a race, change the strategy setup, save the race, right ? I wonder if everything can be set up this way, e.g. Damage Until All Weapons Gone ?

Thats pretty much right. Thats where I made the oops, while editing the stratagies with the race as player control, and saving the Empire after I was done, I forgot to add the Kamikaze Strategy.
??? - in both the Krill_AI_Strategy, and the Ork_AI_Strategy Kamikaze is the third strategy from the bottom (are you using the updated Versions posted here, I don't have the old Versions at work to check right now) |

I got a raft of similar errors setting up games to test my Hypermaze mod, but haven't pinned down which AIs are causing them yet. The ones I got don't seem to affecting game play; they only appeared when the game was being generated. The Messages I got were: Could not find field "Ships don't move through minefields" in record "Settings" Could not find field "Ships don't move through restricted systems" in record "Settings" Could not find field "Clear orders on encounter enemy" in record "Settings" Could not find field "Clear orders on encounter all" in record "Settings" Could not find field "Percentage of total Satellites to keep as planetary cargo" in record "Settings" Could not find field "Percentage of total Drones to keep as planetary cargo" in record "Settings" Could not find field "Number of Anti-Ship Drones per Target" in record "Settings" Could not find field "Maximum Anti-Ship Drone Target System Distance" in record "Settings" Could not find field "Maximum Anti-Planet Drone Target System Distance" in record "Settings" These warnings came up four times in a solo game with twelve AIs, and once in a game with two AIs. [Edit] It appears this problem is caused by AI files that haven't been adapted for Gold. I got the same errors from a new game after adding just one race and no other mods. It looks like the errors come up each time the race is picked randomly, because that one race generated the error warnings four times. [ / Edit] I've found a trivial error in both Hypermaze.zip and HypermazeLite.zip . They should have created a Hypermaze(Lite)\Savegame folder when unpacked; this only really affects the use of ModLaunchingProgram.zip HypermazeLite also creates a folder called 157_Gold_Space_Empires IV for some reason; this is totally unnecessary and can be deleted. The Gold Extras readme.txt mentions the difference between the two, but the manual doesn't: HypermazeLite doesn't use the custom graphics from the "full" Version.
