Game Shutting down ?

As anyone ever experienced a situation where the game just shuts down on you while playing?

Yes but it was in play testing that one CG from Ts4Ever. In normal play I can't recall that happening.

I've almost exclusively played long campaign intermittently for the last 4-5 years. I can't remember any crash.

Here is ( in part ) the report we are dealing with and if anyone has any ideas as to why this might be happening please feel free to share. FYI we suspected his anti-virus but he has reported the same thing happens when it is turned off

I've completly unstalled the game.
Then re-install it in this folder: C:\Games\Shrapnel Games\The Camo Workshop\WinSPWW2.
After that, I've upload and installed the patch: winSPWW2 V12 Upgrade (2019).
Then I've put my saved scenarios in this folder: C:\Games\Shrapnel Games\The Camo Workshop\WinSPWW2\Saved Games and continued my play.
After exactly 30mn the game shut down without any message: it freezes and then shuts down and disappears!
To be sure of the reaction of the game, I've NOT saved during this half hour.
I have thought perhaps this might be an issue with the old saved games but he reported that the game worked OK as a DL version of WW2 but now he reports the DL version of MBT does the same thing

I had a similar problem years ago with another game (I can't remember it's name) which kepts closing itself to desktop after a short while of playing. After reading some online suggestions, I remember using one of those driver applications which checks and updates all the drivers you have in your system and after that problem was solved. It might be worth a try.

Nope. Not even on Windows 10.

I also use Windows 10. Have never had a problem.

Re: Game Shutting down ?

I had something similar when I installed two additional ram devices from another manufacturer. Somehow it had never really worked out with the clockspeed, although it should have done that. Sometimes a program ran and suddenly it stopped.

It was almost as bad as shopping and suddenly the cashier puts a sign saying "Please go to the nearest cash register" in front of your nose. :-)

Ultimately, I never really knew why it had been that nothing really went smoothly. My tuning attempts with software, the extra memory, or because I had restored my operating system with Acronis, instead of reinstalling. At some point I was tired and I gave away the memory and reinstalled everything. Since then without tuning utilities.

I think I just wanted to say that it's probably hard to find a cause if you can not take into account all the individualities of the computer.

If it were up to the game, surely more of us would have problems?

Yes, there would have been and 4 days ago a critical bit of information I was given by Shrapnel support quoting him was that and I quote...

"I haven't issues with the free version."

Yet the answers I received this morning were ( in bold )

Quote:

1. Did you patch the free DL copy of winSPww2 with the V12 upgrade ? YES
2. If the answer to 1 was YES Did that free DL copy of winSPww2 with the V12 upgrade run OK without shutting down? NO
3. If the answer to 2 was NO Did the free DL copy of winSPww2 run OK for you using the V11 upgrade patch ? NO
4. Did you run your SPWW2 V10.01-CD - 21 Feb 2017 without upgrading to the V12 release and did it shut down ? YES
5. Does your notebook use the same anti-Virus software as your main computer? YES
6. Have you tried running the CD version of winSPWW2 before copying your saved games from the DL version into it? YES
so we have been trying to find an answer based on the info that the free DL game worked OK but the CD version shut down and now we find out that is not the case at all

Of course that has nothing to do with it, but I remember my dad saying: "Stupid people often make the mistake of thinking that others are just as stupid. The dishonest ones do that too."

That's why I'd rather spend my free time feeding the little rat in the shed next door. I baptized her Mold-Bob because she is light gray.

It is a pity that not all the effort one gave to others, is appreciated. Luckily this is an exception.

Being serious this is surely a technical issue at his end without knowing what he is running that’s affecting it finding the culprit will be hard. Uses same antivirus so switch it off, what other programs do both share, what runs at startup, what extras does the operating system have like bonjour frame network and are they up to date. Has he checked windows 10 and repaired it?
Good luck guessing what is affecting it could be some third party hook.

Re: Game Shutting down ?

I know a person who ordered an air conditioner and gave it back for refunding after the last heat wave in Germany was over. Because the device only works sporadically. Because it is too loud. Because he is afraid for the safety of his children.
The seller could have all the technicians in the world look for the reasons for the inadequate device, it would nevertheless only be wasted time. (That's why I wrote my last post how I did.)

[And because I had to buy two used notebooks and a computer which were damaged by water. On one runs Windows 7, on one runs 8.1 Embedded and on the other Windows 10 / Linux. That time I did not really know which computer I can occasionally use to play, so I have first installed SPWW2 on all three of them in addition to the different operating systems. I am anything but a specialist in software, but that does not mean that I am helpless because no one can help me. I just do it myself. That's why I know that I practically just need to copy the folders of the game and I now understand the meaning of Win7SPWW2.cmd too.]

What I want to say is, I never had any trouble running this game on any of those operating systems and different Hardware. So I do not think anyone could have problems.

However, if someone operates security suites whose procedure he does not understand or questioned, which may routinely upload an executable file and then block its execution just because it's not widely used ... then he should be ready to live with the consequences of this ignorance.

I am aware of some helpful little programs regarding science, whose developers have difficulties with security software every time they make a change to their exe file. They always have to beg the same security suite operators to put their program on a whitelist. And these, in turn create a raison d'être for those computer users who do not strain their heads. But now I've scolded enough.

I had good experiences and had no problems with Comodo Internet Security, Total Security 360 and Microsoft Security Essentials.
