Download Never Finishes
 

I tried to download the free version from Shrapnel and the download did start, but stopped near the end and got never completed. I tried a couple times, always same result. I have Windows 10, normally .zip files download fine, no problem. Any ideas?

Just dowloaded the free game as a test - it worked fine.

Give it another try.

Alternatively, try using a different browser; many of these problems are browser-based.

The browser may indeed be the main issue but it may be your anti-virus

Microsoft Edge? I think it´s a pretty common browser.
Frankly, I wouldn´t even know how to change it.

Very possible. But it would normally ask me if I want to proceed and if I trust the source bla bla bla.
But in this case it just downloads for ever as if going into a loop once the download is 99% complete...

Edge......the death of browsing.

Though lately, Firefox has disappointed in terms of preformance. I'd recommend trying different browsers. Chrome, despite some issues tends to be pretty reliable. There are though less traveled alternatives such as Brave and Opera.

Personally I avoid Edge.

Microshaft is soooo sure they know what you NEED it's very difficult to bypass say it "Not Microsoft Certified" (i.e. did you pay Microsoft to include your product on their certified list) protections it's very annoying.

So I already have winspmbt (paid version) but I thought I'd try and download this file to see what happened. I am also using edge on windows 10. Didn't work. I ended up with a file called "Unconfirmed 555445.crdownload" of 167 mb. I got the same thing with one of the update files. (I've been able to download all the updates previously). Edge didn't even ask me what I wanted to do with the file (or try to stop me using it!!)

I was able to download a 451 mb file from another site.

I installed Firefox, and that downloaded the Winspmbt file just fine. (And once I remembered the full name is mozilla firefox I was able to find it in apps and uninstall it.)

So it looks like there's something going on between Edge and Shrapnel Games.

But please, Ravindau, install firefox (or another browser) temporarily so you can get the program. It's a lot of fun.

more... you don't have to change browsers or do anything with Edge. Just get the new browser (eg firefox), and once it's installed copy the web address for the download page, downlaod the file, and then unininstall firefox.

I know that was sort of my point and my sarcastic snub at them both lol

Truth be told I do use chrome for both work and pleasure, but its more of a convivence then anything else.

I am sorta used to Edge, though...

Has anybody worked around the problem with Edge and managed to install SPMBT?

I just DL'd two together. They are V6 of the free game so you need to patch up to bring them current

When they are done they show this in the Downloads folder

is this what you are seeing ??

IF YES then simply rename ".crdownload" to .ZIP

If not then IDK what else to say but I just downloaded two copies of the free game simultaneously ( because I could not stop one with Edge ) and they both showed up fully with the exception they both showed .crdownload and when that is changed to .ZIP I was good to go

That HAS TO BE an "edge thing"..... I use chrome and have never seen anything like that before ( which is why I avoid Edge......)

I tried out DRG's suggestion and that works, so Ravindau that's your workaround for Edge.

Another idea suggested by Shrapnel was to use a download manager.

I personally have had no reason to use one but I am not using your OS or your machine

I actually didn´t see anything. The download process just never finished.

BUT your fix worked. I renamed the unfinished download file as you suggested and was finally able to install the game. Thanks!
