Seeking help with system restoration
Dear fellow gamers,
though I bought both SP games last year already, this is my first post here. I believed that my account here was lost, after I experienced difficulties during the registration process back then. But it still works, that's great. Unfortunately I had a malware infection on my computer recently and now I want to make sure the files are clean. Can someone please send me checksums (sha256 or stronger) for the unzipped game installers? The disk with my backups is giving me reading errors, because of bad blocks, I guess. :o Any help appreciated! Regards |
Re: Seeking help with system restoration
Is it not easier to re-download the installation files?
|
Re: Seeking help with system restoration
I tried using info I found on line to verify SHA-256 checksum and the screen blinked and that was all...if it created a file IDK where it is
The other thing IDK is which game installers you have.... we have produced a number of them so without knowing that it's all guesswork |
Re: Seeking help with system restoration
Thanks for the quick responses.
@scorpio_rocks: I would have to pay for this service. Not that I doubt, that the games are worth the money. But I just bought them, so to speak. :o @DRG: Glad you asked. I bought the games in november last year, so I am speaking of winSPWW2 V15 and winSPMBT V16. There are many of tools out there. I use the ones shipped with my OS. On Windows you can try one of these for example: https://portableapps.com/apps/utilit...icode-portable https://www.quickhash-gui.org/ |
Re: Seeking help with system restoration
This is how big they are in my master file

Re: Seeking help with system restoration
Hm, I don't see any checksums in your image file.
Here is what I get: "winSPMBT V16 Extended Edition (2022).exe" 276.583.211 Bytes 94c6a93de339d8a06585c698c5083c0cafcc7e1a028bd4cf26 f87309b79a22cb (sha256) "winSPWW2 V15 Extended Edition(2022).exe" 323.526.104 Bytes 29727d1db554c24f925f137a441dbde21f39693c897e58b0c3 5d070bc3ea56c4 (sha256) Unfortunately binary prefixes are not very consistent... ;) |
Re: Seeking help with system restoration
Ah, I just saw, that there's a space character in the digest.
That's of course unintentional. :o @DRG: Can you please tell me the full length size of your master files? |

What you are asking is what I already provided in post #5 What I want to know is why you seem to be treating the game installers as if they were contaminated. If they were, everyone would have a problem |
Re: Seeking help with system restoration
Well, I'm all at sea by now.
In my original post above I gave the reasons, as to why I am unsure, whether the installer files are clean or possibly affected. You seem to think, that I believe your master files to be contaminated by some malware. That's not the case! I just want to make sure that the copies I have are clean, because of the infection I had on my computer (and local network). All I am doing is asking for some aid. Anyone can send me those hashsums. If you don't want to, that's ok. But I admit, I don't quite understand, what's so difficult about it. :( The sizes you gave me in post #5 are not precise, because of the binary unit prefix, which furthermore is not consistent across different operating systems, hence I gave the full sizes in my reply. I apologize, if I did disturb the peace. I'm simply asking for a helping hand. :o Btw., English is not my native tongue, so maybe my verbiage is sometimes awkward. |
Re: Seeking help with system restoration
I tried to generate the checksums you asked for but was unsuccessful and I don't have the time to figure out why which is why I said "If someone else wants to get checksums be my guest" ....Nobody did
You asked at the start " Any help appreciated!" I gave you a screen shot of the two installers and what MS win 10 reports their size as... apparently that's not good enough so we are back to ........"If someone else wants to get checksums be my guest" Are you checking EVERY program on your computer the way you want our installers to be checked and why would you suspect our game installers were specifically targeted by this malware you acquired? |
Re: Seeking help with system restoration
OK.... I found a standalone File checksum utility to use rather than trying to use the cmd line. Wish I found this at the beginning
https://sourceforge.net/projects/filechecksumutility/ winSPMBT V16 Extended Edition (2022).exe sha-256 94c6a93de339d8a06585c698c5083c0cafcc7e1a028bd4cf26 f87309b79a22cb sha-512 51e7c80b8e2b96e9fcb767d0ee37dd91d41f2888b3efa8958f d61f5345e94b98900a2d7e548825ff51588ff193133ec679d9 ecf15f032751f32e5c64b74c63fc winSPWW2 V15 Extended Edition(2022).exe sha-256 29727d1db554c24f925f137a441dbde21f39693c897e58b0c3 5d070bc3ea56c4 sha-512 bec8604f1642d93a99fd5337e7966091fafefb4dc9c87a14d4 7dc75a929d070b219a3ccdbeafb55d68f9724d3856ed3628e8 54dfc1713a1e4319171799b47cd2 |

I had many secondary backups on a network drive, that was exposed to the LAN. A friend of mine, who has greater knowledge regarding computer security things, scanned my computer and found many files infected with or altered by the malware. Unfortunately we did forget to scan my network drive. So when asking him about it, he told me to keep only those files I could check against a secure checksum. Since the disk with my primary backups has failed, at least with regards of the one partition containing the game installers, I now have to rely on the potentially affected copies. So regarding your question, yes I am in the process of checking every file, of which I have no safe backup, or which cannot be easily downloaded again, and I deem important enough, that way. And I don't suspect your game installers were specifically targeted by the malware. |
