Thanks to help from Imperator Fyron (who helped with the format, not to blame for the content) I am finally launching The Strategy & Tactic website for SeIV. I know this is a rough draft, but it will improve. we all must start from somewhere. To publish was the best way to improve, I must have sat here for months saying that this should be included! things should move quickly with the help of this fine board!

I did take a look at your post, I wish half of my employees had the enthusium that you have ( god I hate posting with-out spellcheck) I think it would be possible to use your hosting space for a good use. I found your site to be very organized, please do not take me to be curt, I think we have the same idea (what are your web hosting costs?) I do beleive that if I asked a few of the nerds that work for me for a better hosting they wouild come thru. Second option would be what I PM'ed you about. The third option would for me to fire up the back office server suite on my laptop, and finaly get a cable modem

My web hosting package and the cost is as follows:

-I get 20 MB of storage on a normal web hosting server, which can be increased if I make a reasonable request.
-I get 10 MB of space on a cgi-bin server, which cannot be increased.
-I get up to 100 MB of bandwidth per day or 1 GB per month.
-All this was free, and ad-banner supported. For only $20, I got the ads removed for one year.

I am currently using all 20 MB on my normal server section, due to co-hosting the Image ModPack. My bandwidth use for March was 290 MB. I could remove one or 2 patch files and get a few megabytes cleared up. I think I might request more space just for the hell of it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Just a thought on the site. The text is pretty hard to read. Dunno if you wanna change that. Just thought I'd mention it since I am a web-designer.

Uh oh. I can't go to my site (or spaceports.com) right now! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif Can you? Either their main server just went down, or there is a problem with my connection. I think it is the former, since I can go to other places without any problems.

Nevermind. It is working now. Must have been a temporary problem with my connection or maybe the path between me and spaceports.

Basically anything with the green text with the stary background. Just makes it hard to read. If the green wasn't so dark that'd be better. But again this is just my personal opinion, don't let just me be the one to make you change it around.

Edit: But otherwise I like the site, helps out alot with some common and not so common problems found within SE4... Good job, keep up the good work!

Thanks for the site. I read the whole thing Last night. I wish i had that site when i first started playing http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif I would imagine it would even be useful for novices since it has a lot of neat strategies I hadn't thought of. baetis I think that you would love PBW, It is a long time between game turns,and quite possibly years before a game is finished, but no more enemies sending just one ship at a time thru your heavily mined warp point. I wish it would move faster. You tend to forget your game-plan in the down-time. My advice would be to take notes. But I have yet to finish in the top half, perhaps the reason I felt a need for the site I am currently working on! I must be doing something wrong!! Perhaps ADD? LOL!

Atrocities thank you for the link! I hope to make S&T worthy of your link (so much content is lacking).
But I hope to resolve this with the Yahoo group I have started, found under discuss in the website. I would hope for an article on each weapon, facility. I know I wish for a lot, but in the long run it may be easier than seeing the same questions posted one more time.
while I know that no single site can even come close to answering all of the questions posted, perhaps this group would find the time to copy/post in the yahoo group so that some Strategy/tactic questions and ideas are not lost in this forum.
Your help is greatly appreciated, I can't do this alone.

Yeah, thats really the problem. It takes long enough to finish a game against the AI locally...I wonder what percentage of PBW/PBEM games are actually completed. I'll try it eventually. I bet playing the first say 20 turns on tcp/ip really helps...

I have added more content, the next step is to start compiling the Dubious strategy guide into the format of the webpage. It still amazes me the huge amount of very useful contributions that are posted on this forum! you guys are great!
