Mod Picker Question
With SE IV Mod Picker Util. v. 2.01, I can't get the game to launch, no matter what I select. I hilight None and click Play SEIV--nothing. I hilight Scenario Pack and click Play SEIV--nothing. This utility seems like it would be cool...IF it worked!!! HELP!

Re: Mod Picker Question
First Guess:
The mod picker probably need to be told the path to get to SE4.EXE I believe there is a browse button you can use |
Re: Mod Picker Question
Make sure that the <modpicker>.exe file (I forget the actual filename) is in the same directory as the SE4.exe file (and by extension, the path.txt file).
If that doesn't work... pray a lot! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif |
Re: Mod Picker Question
I've never been able to get the ModPicker to load a saved game directly; I always have to hit "Play SE IV" and load the save from the opening screen.
When I try to enter a player number, nothing I type appears in the box. |
Re: Mod Picker Question
Load saved game seem to work only with simultaneous multiplayer games (pbw). I think that is a limit of the game command lines and not of the launcher.

Re: Mod Picker Question
You have to highlight the spaces in the Player Number box and delete them before you type in your number.

Re: Mod Picker Question
No problem! That confused the heck out of me when I first used the program. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: Mod Picker Question
Dumbluck:
I believe he is referring to the sequential-turn games loaded from command prompts. |
Re: Mod Picker Question
The saves I can't get get the Launcher to load are solo sequential games with no password. I haven't tried adding a password to one of those yet.

Re: Mod Picker Question
Oh.
Do the turns not load at all, or do they load funny? (IE with all ships having 0 movement remaining) |
Re: Mod Picker Question
I've had the same problem, but I haven't tried adding passwords, either. SEIV never even actually loads. You just click on the launcher, and nothing happens. I'd assume this is because of the command options. *shrug*

Re: Mod Picker Question

quote:
SEIV never even actually loads. You just click on the launcher, and nothing happens.

Exactly. It does try to launch SE IV; when I click on "Load Saved Game", my memory manager shows the available RAM dropping, but then most of it is released again.

Re: Mod Picker Question
I had this problem too. For unknown reasons, it won't load a savegame if there is no empire password. With a password, it works just fine (for me, anyway).

Only a problem it seems for single player. [/METOO] |

It seems to me that it only chokes on savegames without empire passwords, no matter what the game setup is like. |
Re: Mod Picker Question
Right, sorry I've been out of touch for so long guys. If one of you would like to consolidate the problems you are having and e-mail them to me
(Greg@Matryx.org.uk) I'll certainly look into it when I have a minute. I'm finishing my final project at the moment so I'll not be able to do much, if anything, before about the 27th April, but I'll definately look at it after that. I'd suggest you detail in the e-mail anything I'll need to set up to recreate whichever problems you have(i.e. race with/without password in a simultaneous/non-simultaneous game using xxxxx mod etc) |
Re: Mod Picker Question
In response to ButSam's original question, the program must be in the same directory as your SE4.EXE as dumbluck pointed out.
Next, to the problems with Savegame loadings, I know they definately work with passworded empires for simultaneous games... just tested with turn-based and that works too As for unpassworded empires I believe I have a solution. it's actually a small problem with the SE4 command prompt I believe. if you enter a single "space" character into the password box it should be able to load your games. Of course, make sure you select the right savegame, enter your player number (most probably 1 if you're singleplayer or hosting) and then click the Load Saved Game button. Apologies for the "spaces" in the player-number box, just select them and type numbers over them. both of the above issues will be addressed in a new Version in a couple of weeks (when I get an hour to do it) Hope this all helps. |
