Re: Can anyone here sing?
This is too funny dogscoff. Great idea. Here's one...
I've tried my hand at modding to increase the AI quality Too make them more a challange and reduce their odd propensity for sending ships to colonize the reaches of the galaxy ignoring death and danger and defying rationality They send their ships through damaging phenomena continually ignoring warnings that their ships encountered mines there previously The whys and wherfores of their thoughts is something of a mystery So I suppose that for a challange I should Play By Webery! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif [ 11 April 2002: Message edited by: geoschmo ]</p> |
Re: Can anyone here sing?
I guess it's time for a SE4Fun Forum, Richard ?

Re: Can anyone here sing?
Great job!!!!
Anything for "A Modders Heart" sung to the tune of "A British Tar" (imagining John Rhys-Davies in "Raiders")... |
Re: Can anyone here sing?
Geo - nice one. I wanted to mention PBW and multiplayer but ran out of rhymes...

Re: Can anyone here sing?
A hearty round of applause for both the filksingers in this thread. As one who has tried his hand at variations on the "Modern Major General," I know that it is much harder than it looks. Alas, "I am the very model of an Apparatus Specialist" died in the second verse and never saw the light of day.

Re: Can anyone here sing?
He is the very model of an Appartus Specialist
I'm not sure what that is so maybe he can tell it now to us It's sounds as if it's technical and probably pays very well Of course for all I know it could be loud and it could really smell I guess of course it all depends on what the apparatus is He's very vague and doesn't tell exactly what it's purpose is But that's ok I'm sure he's good at fixing it or cleaning it Cause otherwise I'm sure they would not label him a specialist http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif |
Re: Can anyone here sing?
Bravo! Bravo!

Re: Can anyone here sing?
Okay, you asked for it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif A little background, an Apparatus Specialist is a common fire service term for the Firefighter who operates the fire trucks.
I am the very model of an Apparatus Specialist I am the very model of an Apparatus Specialist, I’ve information hydraulic collected in a special list, I know the types of vehicles, and their application theoretically, Ladders, pumpers, and rescue trucks all of them categorically; I’m very well acquainted too with calculations hydraulic. I know how much pressure it takes to make the hosemen scream and kick, About friction loss in hose lays I’m teeming with a lot of news… I’ve charts, equations and formulas that I’m really hot to use. I’m good at ventilation, in manners not to daring, I increase survivability, without disturbing layering; In short, in every matter on the engineer’s daily list, I am the very model of an Apparatus Specialist. Texfire PS- And no it doesn't pay very well. And yes I am very good at cleaning it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif [ 11 April 2002: Message edited by: Texfire ]</p> |
Can anyone here sing?
New verses welcome:
I am the very model of an SE4 obsessional, I quantify resources in organic, rad and mineral, I know the race descriptions both societal and historical, From Abbidon to Xi-Chung Hive in order catagorical, I'm very well acquainted too with races non-material, I found the Eee consortium to be somewhat ethereal, When they spoke to me Last night they said my growth was quite astonishing, While the dangers of strange warp points they were carefully admonishing, I find trade beneficial but my policies expansionist, Force me to attack my allies and that tends to get them really pissed, I'll slag their worlds until their score's comparitively fractional, A state which is conducive to surrender unconditional, I'll conquer other races for advantage technological, This aggresive behaviour's nothing short of pathological, I'll have to pay a price for all my unprovoked atrocities, My domination always triggers M.E.E. eventually, In mid game I start construction of the miners monolithical, My research and economy soon verge upon the mythical, After that it entertains me to the point of the hysterical, To build artificial worlds both in the ring-shape and the spherical, I dream at night of building my dominion galactical, I play from dawn to sundown with an eagerness fanatical, I bore my friends to tears with tales of empires astronomical, I waste my time at work writing songs like this so comical, I've a hundred player shipsets, some sublime and some ridiculous I read Shrapnel forums daily, both on-topic threads and frivolous, I've played all the mods from TDM to Pirates to Proportional, I am the very model of an SE4 obsessional, |
Re: Can anyone here sing?
Someone is rolling over in their grave, laughing their A** off. Was that Rogers and Hamerstiend? And did you get permision?
Toooooooo Funny. |
Re: Can anyone here sing?
The original was "The modern Major General" from Pirates of Penzance. Gilbert & Sullivan, I think.
Here ya go |
Re: Can anyone here sing?
Wr8th: I think Data, Picard and Worf singing in ST: Insurrection is an even better one http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif But, you asked for it. "A Modder's Heart" didn't mesh well, though, so I present instead:
------------ "A Modder's Mind" (To the tune of "A British Tar" from H.M.S. Pinafore, by Gilbert and Sullivan) A modder's mind is a fearful thing, They're crazy to a man; His creativity conjures things that you and me* Will barely understand. His hands should fly, And the code stretch out, His new components, Without a doubt, Should seamlessly Integrate themselves With the SE4 that came to us right off the shelves. [REPEAT] His tech tree should be well thought out, Its branches wrought with care; His new facilities should have cool abilities, Yet the mod must still be fair. His new ship sizes Should not seem queer, And propulsion systems He must make clear; And when he's done with the mod he made, He must post it on the forum, or it won't get played. [REPEAT] ------------ * (Yes, I know it should be "you and I." Just go with it, 'K?) Eric <-- who ought to be writing more useful things, and, for the record, sings counter-tenor. |
Re: Can anyone here sing?
So who's going to be the first among y'all to put his voice to it and post a WAV? Could then make it into an audio track for the startup of SE http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: Can anyone here sing?
Has anybody thought about doing a verse in the tune of La Donna E Mobile?
I'd do it but I'm horrible with rhymes. |

This is an interesting new idea for the forum - simply take an existing song and change one word to imitate a SEIV race and lo, a new song is born <hr></blockquote> Hey! I did more than change "bee" to "EEE"... Here's a starter to get everyone joining in: <a href="http://www.stone-dead.asn.au/tv-series/lyrics/lumberjack-song.html" target="_blank">I'm an Emporer and I'm OK, I sleep all night and I work all day,</a> (Suggested rhymes: Bra/ Nebula/ Jaenar) [ 07 May 2002: Message edited by: dogscoff ]</p> |
Re: Can anyone here sing?
Dogscoff, stop right there!! do not tarnish the wonderful world of Monty Python with your childish humour
PS let's see what you can do with 'Finland FInland Finland' or 'I like Chinese' or the one that has '..and tell me that you love me' as the Last stanza of the first line!! [ 07 May 2002: Message edited by: Growltigga ]</p> |

Big Dogs Song,
Let's all sing like the coyotes sing Howwwl Howwwwllll Hooowwwwooooolllll!!!! ------------------------------------- Big Dog Rules!!! |
Re: Can anyone here sing?
Or I wonder what you could do with Rowan Atkinson's "Why I Hate the French"
N.B. - Please do not interpret this as an anti-french comment. I personally rather admire them. I was just calling attention to a song. How about - "They mine your warp points, and then laugh in your face They eat your ships up and don't even say grace And then they lay claim to the whole of space, That's why I hate the Phong Ooooooh That's why I hate the Phong..." |
Re: Can anyone here sing?
Another one, this time to the tune of Monty Python's Eric the Half-a-bee song.
(On a bit of a Python splurge lately. Ought to cut down a little.) A one, two. A one, two, three, four... {Spoken} Half an EEE, philosophically, Must, ipso-facto, half not be. But since an EEE is energy, It can't be measured countably. D'you see? So can an EEE be said to be Or not to be an entire EEE When half the EEE is not an EEE Due to some ancient injury? {Singing} La dee dee, one two three, Eric the half an EEE. A B C D E F G, Eric the half an EEE. Does this wretched demi-EEE, This non-corporeal entity, Have only one polarity? No! it's Eric the half an EEE. Fiddle de dum, Fiddle de dee, Eric the half an EEE. Ho ho ho, tee hee hee, Eric the half an EEE. I love this brotherly specie, Bisected accidentally, When signing a partnership treaty, I loved him carnally.
