TDM Modpack

Hi guys.

After Mephisto has posted new Version of TDM Modpack I noticed there was lots of responses.
So, I got curious and decided to make this poll to see just how many people ARE using Modpack (and how often).

Most likely lots of people will be interested to see the results of this poll as well.

Re: TDM Modpack

Since TDM is not really a mod but an addon to standard SEIV, question should be changed to
Are you using TDM when you do not play other mods ?

It is unfare to compare TDM with say P&N.
What is really interesting are there still persons playing un-modded SE IV WITHOUT TDM.

That's a very good point, oleg. I voted "some of the time" because I play Proportions and devnull a lot. However, I wouldn't dream of playing without TDM mod if I wasn't using a mod like those.

Gee I see some others like the same ones I do http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif you mean there is an UN-Modded game? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Believe it or not, most of the games on PBW are unmodded. Who needs a mod when you have real people for opponents? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Me !! That's why I don't use TDM much : I like mods that *change* game mechanics/add stuff, such as Proportions, B5, Devnull, P&N, ...
Ok, I don't have the time to play all http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif
And for having modded PBW, just host one ! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

The purpose of this poll is not to compare TDM with other mods; it is just to get some approximation on how many people are using TDM with or without other mods.

Believe it or not TDM is a mod as well, just like P&N and others and not all people use it. It doesn't just add new races with improved AI but mods the AI of the original races as well. However, when we started making this mod we decided to focus on moding AI only to ensure maximum possible compatibility with other mods out there. That allows people to use TDM with other mods at the same time.

So, the question in this pool covers both people that use TDM as a standalone mod or in combo with other mods.

Re: TDM Modpack

Unfortunately, TDM can NOT be used with other mods. For example, I play Proportions now and I would like to have TDM' AI in my game, but alas, it is impossible. There are too many changes in facilities, components and tech area that make unadopted AI a dead meat. Same goes for Derek's mod. I am less familiar with P&N and Devnull mod but I suspect that Pseudo-Newtonian propulsion alone will make TDM AI to choke.

Whatever was the intended purpose of TDM, I personally consider it as a default replacement of the standard, unmoded SEIV AI.

Re: TDM Modpack

Actually, after checking the vote, I realised that my fear that some people would vote "no" because even though they like TDM very much but play other mods was unfounded. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I for one, really am enjoying the TDM-Modpack, Even tho I'm only playing my lst TDM game, I throughly enjoy it. I do attempt to play the other mods as well for diversity. The modders have done wonders with SE4 and have made it to the point where with their mods they diversify the game to various tastes in play for each gamer.
This is what makes this game stand out.

just some ideas mac

My vote was for "All the time".

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I don't view TDM as a mod, although technically it is. I see it as an AI patch for SE4. The fact that it doesn't conflict with what are commonly called mods, helps to make it stand apart.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">As the author of P&N, I have used TDM AIs in every game since I installed them.

It is true that the TDM AIs will not work with P&N straight from the zip. However, it is very easy to combine them.
On the P&N download page, there is a link to my "AI Patcher 2". Simply run the patcher, browse to the AI folder, and press the button.

All of a sudden, the Vaxin hordes will ravage your empire

SJ, and unfortunately the file is not there! Atleast for me it insisted on giving me a "cannot open page" error. Checked it three times, so I imagine the file is missing. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

It is a windows server, so it does crash every now and then. Other times, I might need to monopolize the ISP connection, and it will be temporarily unavailable.

I think I'll go and add Red/Green/Yellow dots to all those links just to make their status clearer.

PS: sorry about the off topic tangent.

Re: TDM Modpack

I think TDM is the single most important Mod community contribution to SE4. It was and continues to be the single most eloquent addition to the game directly addressing the shortcomings in the AIs' behavior. It has provided a model for many modders and a base for other Mods. It should define The Standards for all. Great work guys.

That said, I still play other Mods and enjoy them just as much.

Re: TDM Modpack

Most of the games I've played on PBW have been standard, unmodded games. But, these games have had no AI's, and so there's been no apparent need for TDM (though I'm convinced TDM helps when the AI takes your turn for you...). So my vote should really be, 'All my games that have had AI's have used TDM.'

It bears repeating: great job to all who have worked on this mod!
