The Azorani Alliance has arrived!

The Azorani are a psychic race of traders who would rather stay out of trouble but are quite capable of defending themselves if necessary. Check them out here:

Let me know what you think of them. I've been very happy with their performance.

I like the shipset. It's interesting to see different shapes of ships from small to large sizes. I think the minis though should show a greater difference in size but that's just how I like it to be. I personally think the race portrait is excellent. Good job again.

Good point on the sizes. It seems to me that the hardest to tell apart are the cruiser and battle cruiser. Maybe I can rescale the battle cruiser to be slightly larger without pushing it into the range of the battleship. Do you see other instances that need to be modified?

Let me know how the AI does. It may be a little slow getting going at the start, but if it has time to establish itself, it seems to develop quite nicely.

The ships are a little hard to tell apart - maybe even some slight colour changes to certain parts or the arrangement of engines can usually help.

About the sizes I was referring more to the size of the escort mini and such - it's almost as big as the dreadnought. Of course I'm just like that and would like to see it about 1/6th the area of a dreadnought - but that's my problem.

I'm don't usually play many long games - but I'm sure the AI is good since your reputation precedes you in that department.

Perhaps one day I will find the motivation to finish off my Geezoid fleet...

I tend to agree with you assessment. I will see what I can do. Thanks for the feedback! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif

No problem.

I think one of the best parts of the set is the different design of the smaller ships from the larger ones. It's a nice touch - and that it's not done in DOGA helps. I feel your shipsets tend to fit better with the original MM ones which is what I like - especially the race portrait.

Which program did you use to design the fleet?

I use POV-Ray and code the models in POV-Ray's scripting language.

I prefer to use Moray as my interface for POV-Ray - yuck - I would hate programming that stuff.

Mike - If my Star Mod idea gets off the ground would you be interested in perhaps designing one of the ship sets?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">You have to be a little off your rocker to like doing POV-Ray scripts (or a programmer - essentially the same thing.) http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

I would be up to designing a ship set for you. My turn around time isn't real fast, but I have a bLast working on them. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Great. Don't worry about time, there's no deadlines to meet.

This is just a quick pic I made in Moray of a Galaxy Class ship to give an idea of what I meant by custom made ships: Galaxy Class

Keep in mind there is no textures or that...but I thought it turned out well for a ten minute effort.

Ok, I am about finished with rescaling the Azorani top-down mini pics, and I think it's going to help quite a bit. I will try to get that packaged up early this weekend and reposted. Has anyone seen anything in the behaviour of the AI that would warrant any tweaking before I repost the shipset?

Alpha, nice set you have! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Playing vs. them in a current game, havent met them yet but they hold 3rd place after about 60+ turns. Too busy myself against the Aquilaein who are kicking my butt! (Vikings hold 2nd place and Atrocities Trek Motion Picture set hold 1st).

The only problem I see with them is the problem all AI's have, keep trying to build units after there is no space left on the planet.

Thaks Deathstalker. Keep me posted on how they do. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I've updated the scaling of the minis to show the size differences better, and I like the results. Thanks for the suggestion, Captain Kwok!
