Race Age

What effect does the race's age have? Any?

Re: Race Age

Sadly, racial age does not have any effect on the game. So bad.

If you can think of a good way to give an effect while still keeping games fair during multiplayer, please mention it to Aaron!

So that is the big problem?

The Q&A page on Malfador's site claims that experience gives "minor bonuses"; unfortunately, these bonuses are so minor that no-one's ever been able to figure out what they are.

What do MM say about it?

Your race experience points were originally supposed to offer you some advantage. I don't think it was ever implemented. Another one of those 'planned' things. Maybe he will get to it before SE V, maybe not.

67. When i create a new race it has the status of newborn and has no experience. Does the status change when i play some games with that race, and do i get experience points to buy new abilities?

Yes, when you play with an empire, they will gain experience. You can then save the empire at the end of your game so that you can use in future games. The experience points determine your race's age and give you minor bonuses in different areas.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">That is all that MM has said about it that I know of.

What are the race ages? i never got past moderate

Re: Race Age

Race ages are how much experience your race has gotten.

First Newborn, then Infantile, then Young, then all the way to Ancient *2000000 Points?*.

You gather experience from researching new tech, wars, winning wars, ship construction, colonization and just about everything else.

There was a bug where if you triggered something you would be Shot all the way up to Ancient; had some races that I got Ancient because of it. It's fixed now; but I would like to hear from people who actually noticed the bonuses you get from old age http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Re: Race Age

Isn't the very concept of getting any benefit for playing the same old race again, boring.

I'd rather play different races in different games. If I am rewarded for playing the same old race again and again then I'm not going to try anything new.

And isn't it possible to run up your race XP's playing the computer, which is a pointless waste of time.

I think its an idea that needs to be ditched.

Re: Race Age

threads like this have popped up alot. once, someone claimed that they thought their ministers worked better, and addapted better to their playing style as their race aged.

this sounds extremely spurrious to me, given the way the ministers seem to work, and given that if MM had intended to program an adaptive AI, that they would be bragging about it right and left.

but take it as you will.

Taera July 20th, 2002 09:08 AM

Re: Race Age

About the ministers the answer is obvious, its not the ministers who got used to the player but the player who got used to the ministers. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Have anyone checked, maybe racial age gives you Production, Research, Intel, Combat and Happiness bonuses? Usualy those are the "various areas" as MM said.

Re: Race Age

I doubt it. It took me less than 2 hours of placing a book on the f12 key to get to God-Like age. Maybe if it wasn't so easy to cheat on Race Age, then it could/would have benefits.
