SEIV or Marital Divorce!
In one week, new to SEIV, I have clearly lost touch with the outside world. I'd even be willing to quit my job, but I need the money to pay for my broadband connection. And then there's my wife...I can sense the ultimatum coming, "You either uninstall SEIV or I have no choice but to divorce you. Umm?
No ****, but since playing se4 I have been having vivid SEIV races trying to get me, colonizing planets,....etc. And in my dreams, I see the SEIV bitmap race pictures, and they're coming after me. Just curious if any of you are as affected by this game as I am? My workaround: I've told my wife that I have been assigned a work project which has required me to work well into the early morning, and if she happens to walk into the room while I'm playing I quickly switch screens to another running app. I know I'll get busted soon, but hey, it could be much worse, I could be a drunk, drug addict, child molester or wife-beater. My only vice is smoking (and playing SE4). How can she argue that? |
Re: SEIV or Marital Divorce!
What I did is bought my wife a game she would like and then let her play for 3 days. I then slowly started increasing my game time and when she said "all you do is play that game!" I said "well look who's talking."
She went back to watching tv and I have not hear about it since. |

It's all bad. But were here to help. This is one of those talk sites where we all talk about our addiction. Feel the Love. It's just one click away.... Also because love is a two way street have you checked out.... http://seiv.pbw.cc Your wife and mine can have a chat. But remember she's your wife not your mother. Unless of course.......... Re: SEIV or Marital Divorce!
Guys, I know this is all meant as humor,
Buttttt.. <LECTURE> (and It was more of Symptom than the Cause At the time my wife ditched me, I was playing SE III at least 30 hours a week. Please learn from my lack of will power. It has cost me 3 years of emotional hell. As most of you know I am much better off now, but... If you have someone you truly do not want to lose, develope the will power </LECTURE> |
Re: SEIV or Marital Divorce!
Maybe she needs the competion. We shouldn't be the only ones working at having a good time, err I mean a relationship.

Re: SEIV or Marital Divorce!
Thanks Gryphin, your response really hit home. Yes, certainly I am caught-up in my new toy, but you have made me take a step back and look to the most wonderful and beautiful woman in my life - truly, my soulmate. Material things come and go, often quickly, but true love is forever, and I don't want to ever jeopardize that. Besides, I'll probably master the game in no time and lose interest - Ya, right! And another thing, I am going to restrict my SE4 playing time and skip the deception tactic with my wife I had mentioned.
"Love, hope and faith - but the greatest of these is love." - From somewhere in the bible. Thanks |
Re: SEIV or Marital Divorce!

Re: SEIV or Marital Divorce!
Here's an idea. Mod the SE4 interface to look like a normal business application. It is possible...

Hadrian,
That is the way it started. The app was called a: Spread Sheet. (remembering the days I dreamed of an easy way to track my empire in Star Fire) |

Re: SEIV or Marital Divorce!
SE4 was threatening my relationship, but I found an easy way out: Got me a laptop, and tranferred all my game time to my commute to/ from work. THat's 10 hours a week playing time, which is enough to keep me from playing at home. Mostly.

Re: SEIV or Marital Divorce!
SEIV is actually an alien training ground for Galatic Empire leadership People. So one day the Galatics will come and choose several of us to lead their various empires. Then your spouses will have to take on the duties of consort. Everything will come clear eventually. I am sure of it. I think my spouse will understand.

Midway was the turning point in the pacific war. I think it's historical weight cannot be measured in comparision to the Normandy landings.
Has anyone ever traveled to the beaches ??? Sorry about changing the topic of this thread.... Funny where conversations lead to. Hey UnusualData. I just noticed your PVT. I have replied. Take care. |
Re: SEIV or Marital Divorce!
In regardst to wives, after almost 27yrs of marriage, I've found that the best time to play is when your mate is watching her special programs on TV and when my granddaughter is down for the night, cats are fed, dishes done, etc, this is usually around 9;30 - 10;00 pm, my only problem is fighting with kids to get on the computer.... also, she finaly got her own computer at work w/internet.. now she sends me email at work and even ASKS me to look stuff up for her on the net and in addition she finally went along with us getting cable modem....Now if I'm not on at night/kids are off, she even asks me why I'm not playing.... go figure... but I do take time out and talk with her, well once in awhile at least... ask about her day at work, etc, .... then slowwwlly sneak into computer room...
Remember, no husband has ever been shot for doing the dishes...... just some ideas mac |
Re: SEIV or Marital Divorce!
I've been married 26 years. I've had a computer for about 22 of those years. For most of that time my wife regarded the computer as a direct competetor with her for my attention. She hated it.
I used to have to go to bed early with her, then get up in the way early morning to play for a few hours before work or school if I didn't want to be nagged. We have two children(girls). It is good, because when my wife is nagging them she usually leaves me alone and with the computer! Eventually, the girls got computers too. Since they tend to pay less attention to her when they are using their computers, and, most importantly, they make bigger messes and are bigger slobs then I, she usually forgets all about me and focuses all her nagging on them! This, of course, allows me much more free time with my computer! I think there is a moral to this story, however I haven't a clue as to what that it might be. Hmmm, maybe, "Happy is the father of two daughters, for his wife will nag them!" [ June 06, 2002, 19:49: Message edited by: Tenryu ] |
Re: SEIV or Marital Divorce!
My wife doesn't even like it when I come here to read the Posts more than once a day...let alone play SEIV for more than 1/2 hr.

Re: SEIV or Marital Divorce!
I guess I've got it made. My wife likes TV, I like gaming. From 6-11pm almost every night, she's in there, I'm in here. We do have an agreement to sit and talk at the dinner table, which seems to be all the interaction necessary for our lives. Well, not all!

Re: SEIV or Marital Divorce!
One of my wives nagged me once, so I had her publicly whipped. End of problem. It is such fun being a male Al-Quaeda!

Re: SEIV or Marital Divorce!
Dumbluck - I know, it sucks. It's about 60 miles along the motorway, and in the summer I can expect at least an extra half hour every Friday pm coz I live in the middle of a tourist resort. Costs me around 6% of my wages in fuel, too (and that's a carshare!)
Still, I seem to be kinda stuck with it=-( |

Re: SEIV or Marital Divorce!
My sweetheart is trying to learn SE IV. She does not want to become an "SE IV Widow".
She does follow the board but mostly the fiction and the Cantinna. We have started a new game where she is Role Playing the "Trade Federation" idea. |
Re: SEIV or Marital Divorce!
Gentlemen,
My wife and I have a general agreement that I get one evening a week guaranteed (usually Sunday night) to game -- guilt free http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif . Any other time I spend on the computer playing games is usually at my own risk. I recently introduced The Sims to my wife and she is playing it. I suppose that is because it is so very much like playing Barby. Also, she enjoys playing when I am playing rather than separately. Wives are scary.....somtimes. Cheers! |
Re: SEIV or Marital Divorce!
I used to have that problem. I have mostly solved it by doing this:
As soon as I see my wife when I come home (or she comes home - whoever gets there Last), I sit down and give her at least 30 minutes of time where I just sit and listen about her day and issues. Not talk or comment but just listen. Oh, every now and then I might say something like "Oh, that must have been terrible!" or something like that... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif However, that little bit of time I devote to her sure makes those red-eye sessions on SEIV far more acceptable (and not just tolerable) to her. Seems to be a pretty good deal for me too - 1/2 hour of listening for 4-6 hours (or more) of SE time!!! |
Re: SEIV or Marital Divorce!
I have absolutely no complaints about my wife and this game. My wife is, well, my wife, and as such is just a teensy weensy little bit more important than my gaming. At least, on weekdays. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif j/k. She's quite happy to let me have my hobbies, as long as I take care of her. She's even getting interested in reading the forum, at least the OT threads like Board Games, First Computer, etc.

Re: SEIV or Marital Divorce!
What you do is find someone who can mod the sims to make a mod of you and your family. Family Entertainment.. By playing with your family.
|
Re: SEIV or Marital Divorce!
Or mod SE IV so it has all of our family members as races.
