About Malfadors Web Site
Richard, you have got to talk to Aaron about updating his site. I mean I know he is busy and all, and I respect that, but ever time I get people interested in this game, they ***** about the developers web site not being updated, so why should they buy a game that isn't being supported. I Get really mad about this, and tell them to come here. Never the less, the damage is done.
No offense, but Malfadors site is as important to the game as these forums. Malfador will be the first place people interested in the game will first go. They go there, and see that the Last news was something like 2 months ago, and that is a quick turn off. Again, I know that Aaron is very busy, and all that, but he really should, IMHO, update the news once in a while to keep people who happen to go to his site, and that is very likely, updated and aware that they need to come here. That is my 2 cents worth, and if I am wrong, then I will accept the firing squad. |
Re: About Malfadors Web Site
I would recommend you telling them first about this site and not mentioning malfador.com if there is a concern. As the publisher we actually have the role of PR and keeping sites active, so really any of them are better served coming here first.

Re: About Malfadors Web Site
Hee hee.. where is the queue for joining the firing squad 'doing' Atrocities? do you have to bring your own gun?
Actually, I wonder if Richard and Atrocities are one and the same people, they have the same avatar |

I try like hell to get people in the Trek comunities that I know into this game. They are often hard core games, and being as such, always visit the developers site. Hense my rant. |
Re: About Malfadors Web Site
When I first visited Malfador site I followed the links to user sites. There was so little activity I thought this game community was dead. Only later did I try this site.
SO MAYBE A GOOD UPDATE POST TO MALFADOR AND USER SITES WOULD BE: "CHECK OUT SHRAPNEL INTEL FORUMS FOR THE LATEST ACTIVITIES, NEWBIE GUIDES, and BANTER." |
Re: About Malfadors Web Site
That brings up another question then.
Where are communities we can get into. I wouldn't mind going to their forums. I did a little at apolyton and some at moo3.com before, where are the star trek sites? I can point them in the right direction http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif . |
Re: About Malfadors Web Site
Yes. I agree with Richard, but I also agree with Wardad. I don't care if Aaron spends a bunch of time updating his site, I would rather see him working on patches. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif But he really should have someone clean out some of those links to dead sites. That gives a very bad impression of the community as a whole.

One thing I want to do is build the site of the week program back up to include a lot of them on our site.

I always feel guilty about my site because it's a struggle to find anything new to put on it. Then when there is something new I invariably have to bring everything else up to speed too and it just becomes an all-day job. |
Re: About Malfadors Web Site
No I think Aaron's website can be redone, but he is heavy into patching SE:IV Gold and working on DO.
And some other surprises for the future http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif . |
Re: About Malfadors Web Site
OK so the old question is up again...
If Aaron agrees to update/change/improve his website you will not have problem finding people who would do it. Though most good web-designers amongst the SE fans had left SE community for their own reasons, many people are willing to put some work into MMs site. I am not sure but i think that Hadrian (Theron) would do it, or at least he was willing to do it and even suggested it to them before. I too would put my work into it. But from what i know, Aaron likes his site as it is now. EDIT: Didnt want to create an additional reply so, for the dead sites it is rather easy script that can be done on most Languages that'll check the sites, say monthly, and erase the dead ones. And just how would you know that SJ? Hummmmmmmmmm? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Re: About Malfadors Web Site
One other thing, when I upload a new avatar, set the URL, (Uploaded to Shrapnel) it won't stick. I have tried GIF and JPG, @ 48x48 and they simply won't stay selected.

Re: About Malfadors Web Site
Hell yes, I have volunteered in the past to help Aaron out with the website and on occasion I have updated the links page and emailed it to him to remove dead sites. At any time i'd be happy to do it.
I even had this program called the Ark of Eons where I would take dead SE sites and revamp them, then upload to SE.org where they couldn't be lost or deleted, thus preserving the fan fiction & sites. Richard, I would be more than happy to put together a kick-@$$ site for MM or anyone else that develops for Shrapnel. Email if you're interested! |

There is a partenal brotherhood of beta testers for aaron's games.
we lackeys will have to wait for the demo to come out.... but at least we will know to to complain too about the game http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif It's not the designers fault but his focus group |
Re: About Malfadors Web Site
Brother hood! secret order! I know nothing! damnit, forgot to take the sacred mongoose hat off....
I KNOW NOTHING! |
Re: About Malfadors Web Site
Wow... that looks good. A bit retro, but good. I used to *love* that genre. I don't suppose anyone else will remember it but there was a freeware game on the Amiga called Evil, which was just brilliant.

Re: About Malfadors Web Site
Not bad. Looks pretty nice. It reminds me of a great game back in the day. Called Exile. Anyone remember that one? Me and my brother only had the demo to that game but we played for hours upon hours. Man the good ole days. But this one does look like it'll be good.
|
Re: About Malfadors Web Site
There have been an updated Version of Exile called Avernum (If what you are talking about is what I think what you are talking about).
Extremley fun. Even though I had a demo, it took at least 4 days of playing outta me. |

Re: About Malfadors Web Site
My 2p:
I don't agree that Aaron's site needs a makeover. The 'What's new' has a pretty reasonable history on it. The only thing it could use is a direct link to this forum, and I guess Richard & co may not want that if they're assuming full responsibility for the PR. <rant> I think MM is nice and simple, quick to load and check on (I go there once a day). No unnecessary frills, unlike a lot of so called professional websites. </rant> As for not supporting their games, tell 'em to look at the evidence first: this is SEIV after all! At v1.67! Steve. |
