Boarding party questions:

Can one boarding party take over an entire enemy ship if that enemy ship has no boarding partys of its own? If so, that would make it a waste to have more than one boarding party, since they all get used (destroyed) in the process of using them.

Will the AI start incorporating security stations in its designs if you start using Boarding parties against its ships?

Re: Boarding party questions:

IIRC crew quarters give some defense points against boarding parties, so you might need more than one boarding party for a baseship or a starbase. But besides that you are right: Too many boarding parties may be a waste.
The AI will only build ships with security stations if instructed in the vehicle design file and without regard if he is confronted with boarding parties or not.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Sooooooo In my current game, I'm up to the top of the level in Boarding parties (level 5 iirc), which would mean, one Boarding Party of level 5 can take over any ship that does not have any defensive security stations and/or boarding parties?

Boarding parties look really powerful right now http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: Boarding party questions:

Why is this surprising? The description says '100 space marines'. I'd say 100 highly trained troops with high-tech equipment like powered armor could handle the crew of a starbase if they didn't have similar equipment.

100 marines today with 'normal' combat equipment could take over a small city, I'd say.

This is useful information about the number of Bording parties needed. I agree with Iron Giant that the bording party option looks much more entertaining now.

Heh... I've heard that it's legal to just walk/ride around with your guns strapped on in Arizona. Do that many people exercise their rights? Californians must be paranoid about their nutcase neighbors... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Our Sheriff, Joe Arpio - the publicity hound, has a tank.

Boarding parties are especially effective with the proliferation of PPBs on PBW. Many people use armor instead of shields. Armor doesn't have to be knocked out before you can board a ship. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">when i lived in texas, people drove around with gun racks in their pickup trucks. hell, when i visit norther california there are people who walk around with pistols slung.

I have often wanted to get a Ferret Armored Scout Car, or a US M20 (slighlty less available), but i just dont know what i would do with a tank

on topic though, there are (or were) some bugs with boarding parties in strategic combat, where ships would not try to board if they were facing different ship types (attack / defense / pop transport). on the other hand, i made frighteningly effective use of boarding escorts in a grit tech game, where there WERE no shields.

i only found out about the bug after i had wasted considerable resources researching and building them, and i thought i would be rolled over if they didnt work and my gambit didnt pay off. fortuneatly, circumstances smiled on me, and i was able to use them to effect. by choosing my battles, my opponent might not have even realized that they would not work in most circumstances, and i kept him on the defensive when he probably could have rolled over me if he mobilized his forces.

i wonder if thats been fixed in gold, i guess i will have to try using boarding ships again. say, do boarding torpedoes work now, like drones or fighters? i know boarding missiles never worked, and boarding fighters were not working pre-gold.

"Californians must be paranoid about their nutcase neighbors..."

Substitue "Arizonans" for Californians" and you're about right http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
