Re: Victory screen

Does anyone else remember the disapointment when they won their first game and saw the victory screen? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif I was expected a big parrade in my honour. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif Of course since I've come to realize the MM's time was likely better spent making a decent playable game than with jazzy graphics.

Yes, I haven't seen any game yet that does have a good victory celebration. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Question is what do we want. Victory bands, fireworks, wedding the daughter of your most vicious enemy.... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

MOO2 had a good victory celebration movie.

Re: Victory screen

Would have liked to have seen it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Moo2 didn't work well on my computer. Been a Mac user since 1981 (my first was the Apple II+), and the variety of games was one of the reasons for my changeover.

I do miss its ease of use, though.

Windows isn't hard to use, you know. That is mostly propaganda. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Mac's don't suck. They are the most user friendly computer operating system/hardware platform in the world. Of course, some of us dislike that Macs don't come, by default, with mice with a second button. From what I understand, Apple figures that second mouse button would be too confusing for its Users.

In fact, I've heard they are thinking of getting rid of the keyboard as well. That's way too many buttons for most of their Users as well.

Instead, they are going to put the letter of the alphabet on a bit wheel that spins on the screen. You'll use the mouse to click on the letter you want.

Yeh, I didn't like the one button mouse either, so I bought a trackball with 4 buttons and was able to hook it up directly to my keyboard with my regular mouse and two joysticks. This was pre-USB...

That wheel bit seems a bit wierd though...(JOKE)

Re: Victory screen

Talking about keyBoards...my favourite was a upgrade to my Apple II+. In 1981 Apple only made a keyboard which outputted only capital letters. (this was pre-IBM's first [Edit personal] computer which was only a glint in its eye). Yeh, I know it it's hard to believe. So I upgraded it to do both. In addition the keyboard had a unique feature of being able to macro it as well as change the layout of the letters/macros with the pressing of a key. There are keyBoards that do this now, but in 1981, it was revolutionary.

Moo2 indeed has a BEST victory celebration I ever sa in computer game. BTW, there is a Moo2 Version for Mac. Incidently, it is the only one with all known bugs fixed ! Windows Moo2 1.31 is a beta-release by comparison.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I have to disagree with you about all known bugs fixed...at least insofar as the Mac. I had lengthy e-mails and some telephone conversations with their top tech which didn't resolve the issue of it running properly on my Mac.

Re: Victory screen

Saying that Macs are a lot easier to use than Windows PCs implies that Windows is hard to use. It may be more complicated (cause it has more features), but that doesn't make it hard to use. Well, except maybe for people that are completely computer-ignorant. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">You probably know it by different name. basically it is Moo2 feature that if you build a big ship, but then substitute with sometning very cheap, accumulated "hammeres" are not wasted but get accumulated in some invisible "construction bank". You can recycle them next turn when you put a new item for construction. At the same time, when planet finish construction and there is nothing in the queue, Moo2 automatically add "trading goods", converting spare "hammers" into money. Once planet produces more than 20 construction points, any points lost during construction worthless cheap items are more than offset by free money you receive. As a result, races with unification and production bonuses roll in "illegal" gold. It also produce a hell lot of micromanagement and stall game.

Fyron September 3rd, 2002 06:31 AM

Re: Victory screen

I always thought that extra hammers being saved for the next construction was a feature. It seemed like something too basic to be a bug, esp. with the patch. I never got into MP with MOO2, so maybe that's why I didn't realize about the bug. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

oleg September 3rd, 2002 09:08 PM

Re: Victory screen

hammers saving per ser is not a bug, the bug is extra free money that you get from the saved hammers.
It was fixed in Mac Version.
